Hard pass.
Isn't HDMI 2.1 better anyway? I don't keep up with the display standards too much.
Yeah, but HDMI is the pleb's standard. Anyway, no big deal, but since 2.0 spec was published more than a year ago, I kind of expected it.
Haven’t they started using compression to allow for more bandwidth over the current DP standard?
There’s that LG 240hz ultrawide that uses it. Seemingly no downside to it either.

Yeah, Display Screen Compression (DSC). Unfortunate that our monitors don't support it, but them the breaks for being an early adopter.
By Smokey Go To Posti hear that dr blade. especially since you're still stuck at a plebian console resolution like 1440p.
also, wireless g502 is so gud
I feel attacked. 😢

I've been tempted lately to sell the X27 in favour of the G9 ultrawide. Still part of me is just sort of, I don't know, happy with my PC set up lately.
Happy with playing at 4K, happy with the performance I get, happy with the noise levels of the system and how it looks. It's a strange feeling for me.
Maybe when I really need to upgrade my GPU, I'll swap to an ultrawide too. Hopefully there's some pure boss 4K ultrawides out then with a silly high refresh rate and no internal fan.
As it stands, I'm even forgoing my 1080p 240hz monitor as of next week. Giving it to my girlfriend to use as a bigger screen for her laptop while at the desk. Just waiting on the actual desk to arrive because Wickes are cunts and didn't deliver the counter top on Tuesday like they were supposed to, and it took 4 days to get a hold of them to reschedule for this Monday.

Blame the Trident Z Royals. Once I put them in, I knew I was in end game territory.

Z490 seemingly will support it, but the 10 series CPUs don't.
There will probably be a small performance impact between gen 3 and gen 4 though, as there is currently with the Navi cards. The question will be by how much of a difference.

By Laboured Go To PostUgh, are they really going to make me get a new PSU for this?
Maybe you need one already, but don't know?
What's the max length of DisplayPort cables before you run into signal degradation issues?
Never had one that was longer than 3m, about to pull the trigger on a 5m one. Should be fine, right?

By Zabojnik Go To PostWhat's the max length of DisplayPort cables before you run into signal degradation issues?I don't know, but the Rift S I have uses display port and that's 5m. I've also used it in conjunction with a 1.8m extension and ran into no issues. I would assume as long as it's a decent cable and the corrent spec (1.4 or 1.4a? is the current one?), then it should be okay.

2 more days to go and I'm hyped for new hardware.
So much to see:
1. Prices
2. Performance (both rasterized and ray traced vs the previous gen)
3. Power requirements (including PSU requirements)
4. If pci-e 4.0 makes a difference vs pci-e 3.0
5. Possibly any new nvidia gameworks/software features
6. HDMI 2.1 hopefully confirmed
7. VRAM sizes and if they match the rumors, and whether a 20gb 3080 is announced at launch alongside the 10gb version
8. Actual launch dates for both FE cards and AIB cards
9. Confirmation of the 2.75 or 3 slot FE cooler on the 3090
10. Hopefully confirmation of an adapter in the box for the new 12-pin power connector on FE cards
and then later once reviews are out we can finally see how hot they run and the noise levels of these new FE coolers.

By HonestVapes Go To PostThat was really cool!
Fucking hell at those Noctua centipedes, ahaha. Neat project, but there's a lot of room for performance / noise improvement with little to no concessions to form, especially since he's already had to accomodate a CPU cooler that sits lower than the desk's bottom plate. Could've easily gone with a SFX power supply and standard 120mm fans, tilted and augmented with proper ducting. Anyway, cool stuff.
Ayyyyy getting a 3m counter top up a flight of stairs and zigzagging it through two rooms to get in mine on my own was no joke.
Looks fucking good though, can’t wait to show off some full set up pics once I’m done with it. Never really been able to in past because I was fucking ashamed of the desk I’ve used for the last 3 years.

When I ordered my Embody, there was some problems with their check out. So contacted support obviously, and got through to what i think was the owner, who then had an emotional breakdown over how the old one checkout process broke and they now patched it up with their old one, and what a mess it was. Kept writing long ass messages about the development of the actual website to me.
But now I got an embody!!!!!!!! in like a month or two because they are all fucking out of stock in Denmark, and everyone are buying good chairs for their home office in these corona times.

This feels so cummy after dealing with a desk with 90cm of usable space.
Still setting up my girlfriend’s side of things, third pic should give you an idea of the overall length of the desk.
Very nice! I need to run by The Container Store soon and get a bunch of cable organizing stuff to clean up my mess so my setup can look that clean.

The rear of my PC is spaghetti, but it can't be seen, so I'm cool with it. Underneath the desk isn't too bad, but all the plugs are visible, Zabo would definitely disapprove.

By Kibner Go To PostI just have so much gear and some of the audio stuff has plugs on the front and back which makes it near impossible to look clean. One day…That's why I 3D printed the deck thingie that goes under my monitors. I left enough space in the front of the audio interface (middle) to be able to route input extentions to the back of it, though I'm actually only using one front instrument input for the wireless guitar receiver (left).
I'm not that precious about cable management. As long as you can't see the cables, that's all that matters, though you obviously don't want a rats nest underneath the desk for when you need to unplug something. Velcro ties ftw. Also, I was reluctant about drilling a hole in the desk for the coiled keyboard cable, but now I'm extremely happy with it and would do it again for any additional components.
every time i see you people with actual cable management, i think to myself i should do the same. then never do.
By sy Go To PostThat top monitor screams neck painIt's wall mounted, so Zabo can pull it down to eye level in front of the other one while playing. You can even see how he keeps his TLs to the sides, with only the browser portion being obscured. #progamer
Zabo is on a different planet with his set up.
For comparison, found these on my phone of my old desk set up. First from 2017, second from 2018.

Only way to improve it would be to motorize it. I thought about it.
But yeah, I'm not a fan of the stacked monitor config. The 240hz monitor basically only gets used in the pulled-down position. I simply have no real use for a secondary monitor outside online gaming, the ultrawide has more than enough real estate for all my day to day needs.
Gonna replace both monitors with a newer, very high refresh ultrawide screen one of these years.
By sy Go To PostI don't understand? Why have two monitors if they're obscuring each other? The ultrawide only gets obscured (turned off) when I pull the smaller monitor down in front of it while playing Apex. Takes about 3 secs to set up.
