Nvidia are only competing with themselves, so they can keep one upping their line and phasing out mid range cards.
Interesting design... I'm wondering if evga cards will also be 3 slot and whether they'll be available day one, or only the reference cards
By Laboured Go To PostYou hooked up to a TV of some sort?
Not sure if VRR is going to be big on monitors given the prevalence of FS / GS.
Yes, and I'd like to use it with 4K120 4:4:4.
No surprise that nvidia are still the kings as always. AMD can't compete at all. Are the consoles the only thing keeping AMD alive in the gpu market?
By Lunatic Go To PostNo surprise that nvidia are still the kings as always. AMD can't compete at all. Are the consoles the only thing keeping AMD alive?I assume you mean in the GPU market? They are still fairly competitive in the low to mid range market and RDNA 2/3 should also be pretty competitive in their price tiers. They still can't seem to get away from things like driver issues though.

I do know they do a lot of revenue thanks to crypto mining. Radeon's higher core count for the price compared to Geforce worked well for that. They get a decent bit of cash from Apple who refuses to work with Nvidia and their Radeon Pro line is very competitive for the price as long as you dont need CUDA.
Their earning reports don't separate the products well enough to really tell very much though.

Been in the process of “making” a new desk. Couldn’t go the easy ikea route due to being impatient and the shipping time slots being weeks away.
Instead I got some pretty sturdy short bookcases off eBay which have turned out sound, and I ordered whatever the fuck a koto wood desktop is. I unpacked it today knowing it would at least need to be sanded and waxed. Didn’t expect a gap in the wood staves filled with sawdust and PVA glue though.
So yeah, big RIP to that plan. Going with a 3m kitchen countertop from Wickes instead that’s turned out to be cheaper anyway. I mean it’s not solid wood but fuck it, it was only £80.
Next up I need to get some plywood or MDF and 2x4 to make a backboard sturdy enough that I can mount my monitors to. Probably need to buy a couple more of those bookcases too to go in the middle to support the countertop.
They’re really not bad as an Alex drawer substitute.

By Laboured Go To PostWhy FE only I wonder?Possibly due to the smaller PCB, a way to save space on it.
By HonestVapes Go To PostBeen in the process of “making” a new desk.Couldn't you just order a laminated MDF board in your preferred size & wooden texture?
That's what I used for all my tables, came to 120-150€ for a ~220x80cm table top.
I see that they recommend a 850w psu… wondering if my 750watt Seasonic will be enough or if the 3090 is really that power hungry…

Just for that cable. And yeah, 850W will be easily enough.

I could have, but I'm clearly not one for going the easy route. See my long list of SFFPC builds.
On the brightside, the "desk" is going to be 300x63cm so I don't think I'll be limited to SFF builds ever again.
By Smokey Go To PostWhat RPMs are you all running your case fans at?The highest inaudible ones.
I think my 180s spin at around 740 or so.
By rerixo Go To Postwtf i'm on a 580w psu am i locked out of next genNah, a lot of that is just bullshit and intended for the seriously inefficient PSU's. You'll be fine. Might not be able to run the 3900 but other than that.
By Smokey Go To PostWhat RPMs are you all running your case fans at?1400 for the A12x15, 1200 for the slims.
0 for the two 80mm fans at the rear of the case because they whine like fuck.
By aka Espi Go To Posti've never seen anyone install their aio like that. is that a dumb new youtube trend or something?Apparently case and AIO manufacturers are using bad orientations in their advertising and also not saying how bad of an idea it is.

You haven't seen people putting AIOs in the front of the case like that? Feel like its been a thing for awhile.
Just another reason that custom loops > AIOs. Put the radiator wherever you want it, run the tubes how ever you want them.
Well I could've just chosen a higher power PSU, but honestly with a node shrink on the horizon I really didn't think it'd be required.
By Laboured Go To PostJaysus, I completely forgot I'm on a 650W PSU. Hope that doesn't fuck me on a 3090.I would be shocked if the power draw was above 600w for a system with a highend CPU and 3090.

I mean I keep thinking that too, I'm just wondering what on earth is going on with these GPUs that's causing them to change the PS landscape. Saw that Intel are looking now to change how power supply is managed with new changes to motherboards too.

ATX12VO? That's been a thing for a while now. Honestly, it's a good change. Same with the new 12pin for the GPU, it makes sense for reducing visible cables in a build as well as making more room on the GPU's PCB.
The only thing that's alarming to me is the overall size of a reference Nvidia card after years of them being dual slot and around 270mm long. I'm curious what it'll mean for the size of AIB cards going forwards. 4 slots? 350mm long? Who knows.

I had a Filco Majestouch keyboard many years ago. The keycaps had this fine, textured feeling to them, like silt, that I absolutely loved.
Not looking forward to the inevitable availability issues, likely only FEs for the first couple of months, etc. Worst part (besides the ever rising prices) of any Nvidia launch of late.
Also, somebody tell me where to buy quality thermal pads. When the time comes, I'll want to give the buyer the option to buy my 1080ti either with the currently installed custom cooler or the stock one. If the latter, I'll have to replace some of the pads, which disintegrated during the switch. And regardless I wouldn't mind having a couple of sheets of the stuff in 1 to say 3mm thickness for future tinkering of the sort.

The 2000 series launch had AIB cards ready within a week. FWIW, MSI have already registered new SKUs so I’m hopeful (for those buying the new cards, not for my sake) that it’ll be a similar situation with the 3000 series.
The “better” AIB cards will likely come later though.
