Playing Avengers beta on PC. Tearing my 2080Ti up at 4k. Can't get a solid 60 even with everything on High (step below Ultra), except the textures which I do have on Ultra settings. Looks really good though.
Bring on the 3090.

I've grown to accept that 4K requires graphical sacrifices and I'm okay with it. I should turn in my slaent elite card.

the secret to that is the cpu
By sy Go To PostY'all really paying thousands of dollars for a gpu?People do it for phones where the practical gains compared to last gen are risible, so why not.
3080 costing as much as a 2080ti kind of changes things for me though. Not planning on playing at 4k or whatever the ultrawide equivalent comes to for a good while longer, so I'd be perfectly happy with a card that matches the 2080ti in rasterization and pushes past it ray-tracing wise.
really feeling the constraints of both GloFlo and Intel's fabrication technology falling behind with those prices
Micron the only domestic fab holding its own

By sy Go To PostY'all really paying thousands of dollars for a gpu?Yes, but my main concern is whether I’ll actually be able to get my hands on one at launch or soon after. Plus it’s something that I use everyday so it would be worth it to me, especially since I game at 4K. Most folks are spending more time at home these days though and plenty of people skipped the RTX 2000 series so I think there will be high demand this year.
I keep wishing you could just buy a naked reference Nvidia board and equip it with your cooler of choice.
By Zabojnik Go To PostI keep wishing you could just buy a naked reference Nvidia board and equip it with your cooler of choice.Same. I know there was a Chinese AIB selling the cards with no cooler so you could just slap a waterblock on them, but nothing like that for us.
A user on ChipHell going by the alias Alienxzy posted a screenshot taken from an alleged insider account with information regarding plans for next-gen RTX 3090 as fabricated by NVIDIA's AIB partner Colorful According to the original information, posted on ChipHell as a screenshot, Colorful will be releasing two high-end versions of the RTX 3090 graphics card, in the form of the Vulcan (air-cooled) and Neptune (hybrid cooling) models. According to it, and when the text is parsed through a translator, the tentative pricing for NVIDIA's next-gen is slated at CNY 13,999 (online selling) for the Vulcan X OC, and CNY 12,999 (again online selling) for the Neptune. These translate to roughly $2,000 for the high-end Vulcan X OC and (strangely, for a hybrid, water-cooled version) $1875 for the Neptune. Another pricing of CNY 12,000 is mentioned for the Vulcan ($1,730), so that might actually be the real pricing (and makes more sense compared to the Neptune).
Some more information is present on the rumor-mill-powering post, such as a 5 V RGB capability that pairs the graphics cards' lighting with that of the motherboard (and vice-versa), as well as improved in-card display for the Vulcan X; meanwhile, sales of the Vulcan graphics card for the previous generation were reportedly low, which is why its pricing is reportedly being revised close to its introduction, which will be in the same ballpark of the Vulcan X OC. If true, this should set the pricing trend for NVIDIA's expected top offering in the RTX 3000 series, and it's creeping ever higher - the cost to have a generation's best performer is becoming more and more (insert descriptor here). Even considering NVIDIA's all but guaranteed Founders' Edition, we're looking at a steep pricing landscape. Do please note the rumor tag on the title of the news post, as this isn't confirmed information in any way or form. Images below for the Vulcan X and Neptune are merely representative of current generation's offerings.

Yeah, nah. I'm sitting on this 2080Ti until it melts.
Messing around with Flight Simulator. About halfway through the tutorials. I'm getting about 45fps on Ultra @ 4k. I'm sure it'll drop lower once you get around larger cities, but for now it's smooth given the type of game this is. I'm using the Game Ready driver that Nvidia put out for the game as well.
I finally located this clicking/ticking sound in my machine. It is form the chipset fan of the x570 board. t_t
Since it goes away if I press down on the heatsink, I might have to see if there is a screw or something I can tighten to get it to stop.

these look great, happy to see this.
curious on the release date and performance, i wouldn't mind switch from my corsair ml pros + commander pro to these.
I think I saw them on CES coverage a while ago. They look great, BUT I firmly stand by the most important aspect for a fan is it’s noise/performance ratio, followed by price.
So I’m really curious to see how close they get to Noctua’s NF A12 and Arctic’s P12 fans. Between the two of those, the A12 on the premium end and the P12 on the budget end, both absolutely nail the noise/performance ratio. If newer fans can’t at least match the P12, they’re a hard sell on me.

Anybody had issues with AMD GPUs “crashing” to a black screen? PC stays on, but completely unresponsive.
Got a friend with an RX 590 that it keeps happening to. Thus far I’ve had him update his BIOS as a precaution and use DDU followed by a clean install of the GPU drivers (20.4.2).
Not sure if that has solved it for him yet though, so I’m wondering what else could be the cause.

Seems like a good 'foundation' point at least. I'm hoping that I can start sorting things out around that. I do plan to stream as well so there's a consideration as well.
By DY_nasty Go To PostThat's what I was thinking guysYou will want a cheap second monitor for that. And probably a couple monitor arms to set them how you want. Not terribly expensive, tbh.

I have a whole thread dedicated to streaming hardware and software. Do ask questions because I have a feeling the OP is not as fleshed out as I would like: https://slaent.com/thread/1961540/

Yeah, from what I've read it seems like there's no smoking gun to the cause of it. Though there seems to a correlation between it and the XFX 590 he has. I've ran through almost every possible solution thus far. Currently trying out down clocking since I've seen a lot of reports stating that's worked for people.
I've also read that XFX are aware of the particular issue and will supply an alternative card BIOS if contacted, but overall it still seems a crapshoot as to the real cause.
While I'm not massively unhappy with my current 1050TI I have to admit, that I'm really getting more than just antsy about the next GPU gen from nVidia.
Not because of raytracing, not because of DLSS or performance but only because of HDMI 2.1

You hooked up to a TV of some sort?
Not sure if VRR is going to be big on monitors given the prevalence of FS / GS.
Do wonder if the 3090 is now the XX80ti and then all other ti cards will get re-branded into Supers.
