Why did Jimmy Kimmel's audience laugh at the idea of the Hong Kong protestors being nominated for Time's Person/People of the year? Glad he called them out on it:

O wow. Who could have seen this coming? No historical priors at all!

Funny thing is she's just given a speech making the point that nation states and their leaders are starting to make more rhetorical noise about climate change while not actually fucking doing anything about it.

It ebbs and flows, right? No question it’s gotten much worse in the last 5 years than the 15 before that.
For example:
My prediction for tomorrow:
Con: 389

SNP: 40
LDem: 10
Plaid: 3
Green: 1

You got tons of actual industrial espionage cases legitimately happening and suddenly it's not just racism but a documented problem with Chinese nationals.
For example:
I mean that top 3 basically says "countries with vested interest in fucking the US".
I wouldn't say it's a new breed of racism at all. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're arguing though.

1. That doesn't explain why the denial rates for those other "adversarial" countries actually declined over the same period of time versus the 17% increase observed from Chinese Americans.
2. There are just more Americans with Chinese descent here in the States so you're obviously going to get more documented cases of espionage to begin with.
These undercurrents were always there, that's not up for debate, but it's coming out of the woodwork and that's noteworthy.
Like, look at this cretin:
LaRae Quy, who worked as an FBI counterintelligence agent for 24 years before retiring in 2006, says she believes the generalizations are justified. People from China, unlike Russians, maintain close ties to the homeland that make them particularly vulnerable to recruiting as spies by Chinese intelligence, she says. “You’re American-born, but you’re Chinese at heart,” says Quy, who is now an author and executive consultant.
O I had no illusions about that. Growing up in suburban Georgia made quick work out of that particular fantasy. Just surprised the mask dropped so quickly and readily. Shouldn’t have been surprised In retrospect.

If someone has family in a place where arms regularly get twisted for leverage, then it's a problem when it comes to justifying accesses.

If some of the biggest media personalities coming out of China know to tow the line, then some recent grad doesn't stand a chance. And China stepping up its international dickbaggery isn't some non-factor in all of this either.
I'm just saying the quote is so transparently racist it illustrates your point well
Especially with the direct comparison to Russia right before
You can only REALLY trust certain people, amirite
Like Russians

Giving the extreme benefit of the doubt here
If you're white, it largely doesn't matter what country you're from. You're given access. If you're not, it does matter, and you won't.

By Not Go To PostGiving the extreme benefit of the doubt hereWhy would you want less oversight and scrutiny on people with ties to a country that's openly 1) fucking us 2) more than happy to coerce and intimidate people and their families to push their own interests?

I'd be with you guys if it was a college admissions office you're talking about, but its not. Its national security with a focus on a near cold war enemy that openly reeducates its most visible citizens like actors and heads of business or military.
Russian 'citizenship' or ties have been fractured as hell since the Soviet Union collapsed. Its an entirely different structure of concerns.
