A thread to celebrate the nostalgia and yet awful music of the late 90s and early aughts. I decided to start with a pretty bumping song...

lol i just listened to that song the other day
I actually don't know if i would consider Static-X nu metal though
I think some Korn still holds up OK actually. "Freak on a leash" was so massive when i was in jr high.

Saw this album cover the other day

and thought you probably wouldn't get away with that these days.
Used to love Limp Bizket when I was 13 but I can't listen to them now. Way to cheesy. Korn make me cringe nowadays but they did have some decent tunes. Rage Against the Machine and System of a Down are still 2 of my favourite bands though.

rip wayne static
my dad brought me to see marilyn manson and slipknot when i was 11, and that meant i wore nothing but slipknot merch for the next 5 years.
anyway i kind of still enjoy Iowa, but i think that is the only real nu metal that I think has held up

Self titled is very nu metal with all the bad things that comes with it, some decent stuff though, Iowa kind of cool and good, Vol 3.... Jesus, what happened here lads. One of the worst recordings I've ever heard. As in the way it was recorded. What is going on with those vocals and the whole sound of it? Fucking Rick Rubin lazy couch potato. Everything since then ranged from ok to absolutely shit, attempting to become Stone Sour.
On their live performances, they just all look like people in it for the money these days. Which I mean, I kind of understand. But the end product is boring as fuck.

Slipknot always seemed a bit too contrived for my liking with the masks and the characters. Marylin Manson was similar although I think Mechanical Animals is an underrated album. Is he nu metal? I struggle with these sub genres.
IIRC the first nu metal gig I went to was Deftones supported by Linkin Park who at that time had just had maybe 1 or 2 singles out. I remember thinking "where do all these people get such baggy clothes?" and one of my brothers friends going crowd surfing and coming back half an hour later with his arm in a sling. Linkin Park put on a good show but I never bought any of their albums. Deftones were excellent.

I think counting Deftones as nu metal is like counting Die Hard as a Christmas movie
like yeah but not rly

I somehow never could get into deftones. Seen them live twice and it just seemed boring. But I did enjoy whenever Chino joined dillinger, especially 4 min in when he made a run for it, seeing the fire come out
(i also enjoy the guy yelling YOU SUCK a few seconds in)

I saw Static-X once at a festival. They wasted enough time getting shots between songs. Good laugh though.
By Random Ass Username Go To PostOh they definitely are imo but anyway here's another
My friend's opened up for them last year. Everyone left after my friend's band played and like 10 people stayed for POD

so static x actually just went ahead, and started playing again after Wayne died... Replacing him with someone wearing a mask that looks like Wayne Static lmao

Looks like this is for memorial and tribute purposes though. It's kinda cool...*shrug*
But I hardly know any Static-X songs apart from whatever ended up in videogames back then.

Maybe. But seems weird as fuck to me. I can't say I remember many more than like 3 songs from them either, but I did in my teens meet Tripp Eisen who played with them for some time.He later got arrested for first fucking an underage girl, then after posting bail, he a few weeks later kidnapped a 14 year old. Mad man.

they might have have had half their members die or kicked at this point, but slipknot keeps going with a budget Ghost/Stone sour cross over video. i went to so many slipknot shows from when i was 12 to like 20, weird seeing them without Chris who was always one of the highlights at their shows.

been blasting this song for a few days now
no regrets

Yeah I keep having the song stuck in my head. Absolutely hated All Hope Is Gone and The Gray Chapters, which made it easy to forget about them considering Vol 3 was also a bit meh. But this is pretty decent. What is going on with pancake face though.
