However, since his move to Houston, things have changed, and I’m a little worried that the Rockets have ruined Josh Smith. He hardly ever takes those patented long 2s anymore, and for reasons that remain unclear, he is suddenly exhibiting above-average shooting efficiency from a couple of spots on the perimeter.

Keep on truckin', J-Smoove. Maybe after a whole season you could be decent, instead of decent in two places.

He should come in to training camp next year with a killer 3 just to spite Flip. He can be James Harden-esque if he can shoot it from deep since he already gets to the line at a good rate.

Where did he say this?
By Vahagn Go To PostBut Goldsberry said 50% finishing around the Rim for a guard is horrible!
Oh wait, he's an asshat with no basketball knowledge and forgot the very basic step of adjusting for position before comparing to the rest of the league.
"The color's blue right? That must mean bad"
Alsi, If James Harden cared about finishing at the rim instead of flopping, he'd be higher. But flopping on easily finishable shots is his forte and although he doesn't get penalized for a missed shot, he loses the opportunity of a make pushing up his fg%
Where does he use the term "horrible"? Blue is below average, yellow-orange is average, orange is above and red is elite. The difference between average and below average in this league is probably no more than 1-2% depending on the stats. You should probably spend time calculating out the averages.
Like, a 38% 3PT shooter is considered above average, while a 36% shooter is average and anything else is below average. On Goldsberry's chart that translates to blue and yellow-orange, so not sure what you're angry about.
isiah tomas is the six man of season and the best last draft pick of all time
bulls are a patetic shit team
By rodeoclown Go To Post I knew Andrew Wiggins was good, he has excellent body control and finishes through contact really well, but he's such a stud.
His control of the ball is insane:

The Goldsberry article took me down the "best rim finishing guards in the league" path and the results might surprise you. At least 400 attempts.
Dragic is incredible. I really don't know how he does it when I watch him.
By IWMTB19 Go To Post 50% at the rim is horrible for a guard you dumbfuck, those numbers are highest percentage for guards on all shots within 8 feet and shots from 3-8 feet are low percentage.
lol
By reilo Go To Post I just want to know what Goldsberry said about Kobe to get Vag so upset.
He invented the Kobe Assist, which is maybe the greatest backhanded compliment in the history of analytics:

By Diprosalic Go To Posti wonder if Rondo knows that Connect Four is a solved game.
As in if you go first, there is a clear algorithm to always win? I didn't know that.
Over the last 10 games, the Thunder are giving up 111.6 points per 100 possessions with Kanter on the court, while scoring 107.1 points (-4.5 net). And it’s not as though Kanter is offsetting his lack of defensive impact with his offense. In that same span, when Kanter is off the court, the Thunder are scoring 110.8 points per 100 possessions.
To give more perspective, Kanter ranks dead last in defensive RPM among all qualified centers, including Andrea Bargnani of the New York Knicks.
Shit. Literal shit. Literally.
The stats Kennedy used have to include his numbers in Utah.
His net plus/minus and VORP have been positive since he came to OKC, and I think it's unfair to use our team defensive stats against him while most of our best defenders have been out injured.
Y'all need to stop acting like I'm arguing that Kanter is the second coming or that his game isn't extremely flawed. I'm not. His potential is pretty damn enticing though.

Like these stats?
With Kanter, the Jazz scored 102.9 points per 100 possessions, while allowing opposing to teams to score 106.1 points, according to NBA.com. However, since trading Kanter, the Jazz have an offensive efficiency rating of 101.3 and a defensive efficiency rating of 93.2, good for an impressive +8.1 net rating.

Romrei gon get ya
OKC's record post ASB record would probably be the same just becuase Perkins is gone.
Massive addition by subtraction. Maybe the scoring would have been the same and the defense not as garbage too if they didn't pick up Kanter.
idk I like Kanter though.
Not having to play Perkins woulda been straight up addition by subtraction but then they found someone arguably worse on defense and played him even more minutes than they were playing Perk.
Gonna see what Presti is really about this offseason I guess.
Every GM in the league trades Perk for Kanter.
I agree with the article in the sense that his valuation will be interesting. If you're a pessimist you lowball him or let him go, if you're an optimist you might max him.
I could see waiting until he becomes an RFA, although it might just be more prudent to lock him up to a contract that will look better and better under the new salary cap.
Most GMs get rid of Perk like 3 seasons ago.
You can't judge the FO regarding Kanter until they make their move this offseason, pls max Kanter, pls
By diehard Go To Post you do know the asset OKC gave up was the pick, not Perk, right?
Yes. A pick likely to end up in the late first round, Tibor Pleiss and Perk (who was bought out).
By psychintellect Go To Post Wouldn't mind picking up Gerald Green in the off season.
He's gonna be a hot commodity.

By psychintellect Go To Post Wouldn't mind picking up Gerald Green in the off season.
I don't like Gerald. He is too volatile.
By KingGondo Go To PostDepends on your reasoning. I assume you want to see us get destroyed by the Warriors?
And to not be in the lottery. :3
"I want to be here but I just don't know if they want me here," Green said. "Because if you want somebody, you show them. I didn't think I was playing that bad and now we're here."
On a related note, backup guard Archie Goodwin vented about the team's problems to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM:
"Just having a vocal leader -- Channing Frye was great at that for us last year -- I think that's another thing that we're missing because we don't really have a solid vet that's been through the trenches and knows exactly what's going on, besides Danny Granger, but he's not playing. He's hurt," Goodwin said. "I think that's what we're really missing."
"I also think we don't do a good job of letting guys know what exactly their role is," he said. "I feel like this year a lot of guys felt like their only role is just to come in and score.
"Winning teams, you have guys that do that, you have guys that defend, you have guys that know they're rebounders, you have guys who facilitate and make others better. I don't think we really have that. We pass the ball, but I think that more so a lot of guys think that the only thing they're out there to do is score, and that's been a big problem with us."
What's going on in Phoenix?
By Adam Blade Go To PostAnd to not be in the lottery. :3
It's a coin flip at this point. I'm hoping we don't make it, personally.
Also, side note: the Rox have the Pelicans' pick, so you're essentially rooting to give them a lottery pick. Wanna reconsider?
NOP's final 4 games: Suns, @Rox, @Wolves, Spurs
OKC's final 4 games: Kings, @Pacers, Blazers, @Wolves
If we end up with the same or worse record we miss out since they have the tiebreaker. I think we'll probably lose to the Pacers and Blazers, which means the Pels only need to beat the Suns and Wolves to make it.
By Moris Go To PostLike these stats?
Look. I'm not trying to defend Kanter here but...
They replaced him with Rudy Gobert who has been a super elite defender, so the numbers would going to look bad for pretty much every center in the league in Kanter's spot.
That said, he probably is the second coming of David Lee...just with a totally different offensive game.

Kennedy mentioned that in his article, he was using Utah's #s during and after Kanter's trade to give more context to OKC's #s before and during Kanter. Individually you can look at each team and come up with reasons for the changes, but together they're pretty damning.
By Dreams-Visions Go To Post So. Can anyone actually stop the Spurs? They're doing that thing that they do around this time of year and they won't play against a more seasoned (or successful) opponent in any round. Would anyone believe in (read: put money on) the Warriors in a 7-game series against them? And if the answer is no, can anyone else really stop them from winning rings again this year?
If the Spurs don't have HCA in round 1, I don't see them winning it all. Too hard to go on the road in the West for all 3 series.
It would also be interesting if the Spurs are in the 6 seed. I think they can make the WCF that way.
Personally, i think if the Spurs are the 6 or 3 seed, the Ws cruise to the Finals. But if they meet in the 2nd round, then it would be a bit interesting but I still see the Ws prevailing. The Ws are historicaly great so far, why not put money on them? For all the "Spurs do what they always do," let's not forget they only won last year since 2007. That run included 1st round upsets, backdoor sweeps, etc. The Spurs are no lock for anything. Hell, they won like almost 20 in a row in 2012 before they collapsed vs OKC.
