sorry romrei
Pacers & Celtics were my pick for the 7th & 8th seeds about a month ago, I see no reason why they can't both make it unless Miami finishes strong.
So if we shouldn't put much faith in the Spurs, who should be favorites out of the West? The other 7 teams that haven't done anything?

I'm waiting for it because I have to call out IWMTB for the first time ever and I hate it had to have been him.

I didn't have a great year :(
Larry Sanders could have gotten DPotY if he didn't retire from basketball tho.

Your Portland, Golden State and New Orleans predictions... /wipes forehead
By reilo Go To PostYour Portland, Golden State and New Orleans predictions... /wipes forehead
New Orleans wasn't really that bad of a prediction at all I think. They're 8th or 9th and they've had a million injuries. I had them 6th.
The Golden State prediction is all-time bad. I didn't see Bogut and Curry staying healthy, Klay and Green becoming stars, and Barnes and Speights somehow having OK years... Six different guys on GS just killed their prior seasons.
I had them barely making the playoffs and they're going to walk to the title.

The POR@BKN game is a reschedule from January, too. Initially there wasn't supposed to be a game today.
The NCAA title game should be pretty good, even from an NBA fan's perspective. Lots of interesting prospects.
RT @blazermb: After tonight, the Blazers will have travelled 14,809 miles in 24 days. By comparison, the Cavs will log 37,364 miles the entire season.
Re-align the fucking divisions already or get rid of them, JFC.

Frank and Jah have zero chance of guarding each other so I don't know how illuminating that matchup will be though.

To be fair, most of those miles the Cavs traveled will be going BACK to Cleveland. Those miles should count double

Didn't you hear? It props up the rest of NCAA athletics, it's totally not for profit.

Eh, at least the star talent in this game is miles beyond your typical college game.
Watching Oklahoma State vs. TCU hurt my soul. This will be like watching the '96 Bulls against the Monstars by comparison.
By reilo Go To PostIf the Spurs don't make the Finals it's not because they didn't have the 1 seed, it's because the West is too good, period. To say they outright can't make the Finals because they can only beat the D'Antoni's Suns from five seasons ago or something, I honestly don't know where your mind is going with that.
They beat the plenty of great teams on their way to the Finals the last two seasons with varying offenses and defenses, including a Grizzlies team that isn't much different than the one they lost to. Unless you want to claim that Stotts and Carlisle have gimmicky offenses, too?
Plus we all can see through your D'Antoni hate. I bet you loved him while Kobe still did.
Winning 3 straight series without HCA is tough as all hell. Especially in this loaded west. And given their history of never really winning anything without it, why would someone suggest they're the favorites?
Ive akways thought D'Antoni was a chump and I repeatedly voiced my being pissed off when they passed on Phil.
As I said. If they end up with the second seed vs the 6th seed that's a huge difference. Not record wise, but just not going through a west gauntlet without HCA, until then, picking them is just overreaction to a good month and a good game.
I mean, I don't disagree with what you're saying, but the point is that if anyone can do it it's the Spurs. Your reasoning for it with regards to the Spurs is... off? Like your idea as to why they can't do it is "they won't be a 1-seed" and "there's no D'Antoni-lead team to walk through". That's some shit rationalizing on your end.
What you're saying is historically true fo ANY team. There's a reason the lowest seed to ever win it all are the Rockets as the 6th seed and they needed a Clyde Drexler trade to do it.
By Omega Go To PostSo the team that can't even beat the Spurs in the regular season are favorites over them in the playoffs?

by that logic the Blazers should be favourites because they beat the spurs 3-1 this season.

Right. Going through a conference without any HCA is near impossible.
I bring up D'Antoni because there are lots of teams that have won a series and made the finals without HCA. The heat's last stretch they beat Chicago, Indiana, OKC in different years. Mavs beat LA, OKC, MIA in the same year. The Lakers of the Kobe Shaq years beat SA, Minny, SAC, Por.
i may be wrong, but I think Pop has only won a series without HCA at any level against D'Antoni and once against The Hornets in the last 10 years. And lost just as many series with it. For whatever reason, HCA seems to be essential to them making the finals.
isn't that a bit unfair because they had HCA practically every year?
they beat the Mavs as a 7 seed in 2010 btw.
By Diprosalic Go To Postisn't that a bit unfair because they had HCA practically every year?

I knew a series probably slipped through the cracks. Thanks!
That season they got swept in the second round by phx I think.
I'm not putting it past them to win a series as a 5th-7th seed, just don't think they'll win 3 consecutive.
i think the difference is that they conserved themselves even more this season coming of b2b finals runs and injuries. i don't think it's comparable. a GSW series would be very hard HCA or not, i still see them moving up to a 3 seed at least if Pop gives a shit about the two upcoming Rockets games.
they would have HCA against the entire EC sans Hawks if it ever came to that.
By reilo Go To Post i'd reckon they could get to the WCF as a 5 or 6 seed and not bat an eye but beating a hypothetical Warriors team in the WCF is the real challenge.
Yea, that's entirely possible. Since the teams in 2-7 are so close record/talent wise - I figure the only deciding factor is matchups and HCA. I still think Memphis is getting slept on. They always do better then their seeding says they should and last season they might be in the WCF if not for Randolph's suspension.
By reilo Go To PostThat was a completely separate post on the state of the Spurs. It's time for you to log the fuck out and shut the fuck up.
lmao
A coworker I met at a happy hour the other day just came up to me talking about ball, and he says "Ya know, I really enjoy watching the Rockets. I love watching them play basketball. I read an article by Bill Simmons that says they are a pretty hated team. That surprised me."
lul
