Laughed way too hard at that. In public.
I actually am hoping for The Lakers to keep this pick this year mostly so that the Tank officially dies. I don't think we're getting Towns or Okafor, Mudlay or Russell aren't enough to get super hype about. I'll take it though and then I can celebrate Jordan Clarkson made game winners and Swaggy P hot streaks again. Kobe can swan song in peace.
Keep this pick, then win every conceivable game possible to fuck over Philly. (even if that's like, 25 games).
Otherwise, I don't know how much more of this tanking I can stand. Knux and Rodeo are broken. Next year will be 3 years straight of this shit. I definitely ain't about dat life.
I mean, I gave up on the season weeks ago, but I still think the Wolves can be good in spite of everything. Wiggins is good, Rubio is good, in theory, they have decent role players (Muhammad, Martin, Pekovic). It all depends on health...
This can easily be an A summer. They need to nail the draft pick (Towns or Russell), sign Bjelica and pick up a real backup point guard. They should hire a new coach, but Flip indicated he's coaching next year, so, ugh. At least he's saying the right things about needing more 3 point shooting. (I don't believe him.)
By jjasper Go To Post So they wait till the one year where he kind of did a decent job and almost got Westbrook and a bunch of trash to the playoffs?
He's actually done what I would consider a good job every year but he still has some really bad tendencies. He plays garbage guys wayyyyyy too much (Perk, Fish, Roberson, Waiters) and our defensive system is far too dependent on the rim protection of Ibaka.
We risk pissing off KD if we fire Brooks, but if we have a clear candidate in mind then I'm more ok with it.
By KingGondo Go To Post Woj says we might fire Brooks in favor of Billy Donovan. Hmm.
I don't get the logic in firing Brooks and not bringing in someone that's already proven.

Who could we get who's clearly "proven" though? Alvin Gentry? There's a thin line between "proven" and "retread."

Alvin Gentry happens to be a really good coach.

I'd be ok with him too, I'm just saying that he's probably the best guy we could get who has previous head coaching experience in the NBA.

I would say yes, OKC still don't have scheme in either on offense n defense, they frustating to watch..
The only good thing that I can say to him is, he's nice and player like him?

He's good at player development, although Presti deserves credit for drafting players capable of developing as well.
all depends on how much credit you think brooks should get for player development
just coming from a place where i've seen what bad coaching can do for guys--i just don't think scheme or x's and o's is even worth fucking with a leadership group that has had players absolutely blowing through projected ceilings

I still think we'll probably keep him. Woj's article is probably just Presti putting Brooks on notice that next year is pretty much chip or bust.
The thing I keep coming back to is that we have so many deficiencies when it comes to our on-court product. Terrible out-of-bounds plays. A deficient offensive system. Garbo players getting serious minutes consistently because they're try-hards. Having two superstars but not staggering their minutes. A defensive system that gives way too many open looks at three.

No ball movement or player movement, along with antiquated shot selection suggests they could use a change.

Even good coaching can't stop the tank. Praise Hinkie.

But....alright.
They were a game over .500 in November 2013...but alright.
Coach Scott mentioned Ed Davis, Tarik Black and Clarkson as young guys he liked.
I'd really like to keep Ed Davis next season if we're not gonna tank next season, dude is very underrated.

I like him a lot too. Problem is, it's really easy to relegate him to the bench. If he's not dominant on the boards, he's so easily replaceable. Don't want to spend money on a guy who very reasonably can DNP like 40 games next season. Especially if we get a big in the draft and Randle comes back.

It's not like there are other bigs, though. Ed Davis would still be the 1st big off the bench which is his perfect role.

For the past couple months I've been watching Utah and Minny games because I finally refused to watch another second of the dumpster fire known as the Phoenix Suns. Because it's one thing to be bad, it's another thing to be bad and have almost no potential (trade an amazing pick for someone you can get in RFA because his team doesn't even want him, brehs).
A couple thoughts:
-I'm not sold on Wiggins at all. I've seen so many people say the Cavs should have kept him if only for his defense, and it's making me laugh. He's a straight up bad defender. He's losing his man all the time and he looks so disinterested on that end. His PPG looks nice, but A) Flip is playing him a gazillion minutes and B) he's doing it by taking a bunch of (bad) shots on a god damn terrible team with only Kevin Martin and him as their offensive weapons and C) this kid is already getting superstar calls. Yeah, he's going to be good, but IMO he's not going to be this insanely good player like people are hyping him to be. He has the physical tools to be a great defender, but I don't know if it's disinterest or low IQ that's holding him back. We'll see.
-Adrienne Payne is terrible and it's hilarious watching him try to play the game of basketball. Like, he could be really good if he didn't have the BB IQ of Gerald Green, but alas.
-Flip is terrible. He's so lucky he fell ass-backwards into getting Wiggins.
-Exum seriously moves like Fat Diaw. Like, they walk and run around awkwardly in the same exact way. It's weird.
-Gobert is a god damn monster. He'll be absolutely terrifying when he gains more muscle.
-Quin Snyder is amazing. We need more Jazz games on national TV, if only for more exposure of this wonderful lunatic.
By KingGondo Go To Post Ok SLAENT draftniks such as IWMTB... Thoughts on Kris Dunn and Kelly Oubre? They're the two most-mentioned guards in our draft range.
Dunn is a beast. It may sound jacked up, but young point guards that get injured early are a lot more likely (imo) to pick up the more advanced parts of playing that position - Dunn improved a TON. I don't think he makes it to OKC though.
Oubre... He's another Xavier Henry imo. Could be good, could be bad. All the tools are there but I don't like completely raw wings like him.
Wiggins spent nearly the entire season playing with garbage defensive players (Payne, Dieng, LaVine, to name a few) around him and having to carry offensive burden (especially after Muhammad had surgery). There were games where if he wasn't scoring in the post, the Wolves just had nothing going on.
They'll be a better defensive team overall next year (nowhere to go but up from 30!) if they're healthy and getting lots of Rubio, the engine on both ends. Bjelica and Garnett will do them wonders at the power forward spot, too.

Kelly Oubre should be the number 1 pick if we were drafting for the National Sprinting and Jumping for Tall People Association. But alas, the affinity for a round orange ball is also required.
Kris Dunn is a good player, could have a Jason Terry like career in the NBA if he was a better shooer, but right now, he's more of a Marcus Thornton type.

Motherfuckers on a Sixers board legit sold me on Oubre and all of his potential and jazz.... but yeah he has all the tools in the world to be really really good. Dude is a walking draft buzzword foutain. He has all of that (winspan, jumpoutdagymability, speed, star looks, cool hair). It just that...he was invisable at Kansas....just like Bill Self's last two wings did at times but Oubre did it more.. In fact he reminds me of what I saw from Wiggins but on a much less definate scale. If it was all Bill Self's fault and he is simply freed from his "system" then someone could get a steal...more than likely he is just bitchmade and never will use all of those tools.

I don't trust anyone who went to Kansas. Straight up
Jazz-age grows, yessss.
I didn't watch enough college basketball to be much help as of now, I'm working on a draft projection model that should be done in one month so stay tuned for then.

pretty much...and our franchise savior, Embiid, went there too...welp. Self's track record for star level dudes is pretty low it seems. Wiggins looking capable is hopeful but still.

I mean... certain guys are able to rise above their college (Ty Lawson a PG from UNC, Carmelo, Pierce, everyone from NC State, etc) but as a rule of thumb you just gotta avoid certain shit.
Watched Dunn's DraftExpress video and I'm definitely intrigued. Seems to have all the tools and he pops off the screen because of his burst and quickness. Nice all-around player that could be our backup PG of the future.

I would never advocate drafting a kid from Syracuse ever again. I just can't. Jim Boeheim doesn't produce NBA players.
