By KingGondo Go To PostWe just needed a guy who knows the ropes to help Donovan in his first season. It's just a bonus that he happens to be a great support guy to have on your bench.
Supposedly he's good at drawing up out-of-bounds plays and creative offensive sets, which we desperately need.
@Jonm: Any comments on Monty?
The one thing I think of when I looked at the Pels was "damn, their offense is creative and really good" ............................................................................ ...............................................................
Wade is probably worth 15 a year under the new cap pretty easily. Yea, you're not getting a guy you can depend on day in and out during the regular season, but he's still capable of putting up stupidly efficient numbers with "good" defense.
10 million PER is pure theft. Especially when he plays in the East and you just need him for the playoffs.

They did have a lot of injuries. But I don't ever recall anyone ever saying Monty is a good offensive coach. So I'm not sure where that "reputation" comes from or who is telling you that.
Monty is a good assistant. Some guys are better at that than being a head coach. plus he's been around the league as a player too. So while he probably isn't the best X and Os guy to have, he still will be a good resource for Billy. If only to be the "cool parent" of the staff...IIRC Mo Cheeks was this for a few years for Brooks.

You can't give legacy contracts in a sport with a salary cap.

I think the "took less money" angle is overblown. It was only a difference of like 10 or 15 million, right? That's not exactly what's been going on in San Antonio.
Wade is going to miss a solid 20-30 games a year at this point. I know the cap is going up, but you can't pay him 20M a season and reasonably expect to compete.

Course not. If KG stayed in Minny his whole career, won 3 chips and the roster was already exiting their prime, would you tell him to go fuck himself, sign somewhere else so you could try to compete for 2-3 seasons or just bite the bullet?

You literally don't see this everyday.
I don't know how much Kerr helped, but he definitely didn't hurt them. Their offense and defense look great, which I doubt would be the cause with most other coaches plugged in there.

He also stumbled onto a universe-destroying starting 5 when Lee got injured and he was forced to play Green.

Bennett was projected between 7-10, it's like if Frank Kaminsky or Stanely Johnson went #1 overall this year lol
They're not trading Rubio. I'm willing to bet large sums of money on this. I don't know why Chad Ford keeps talking about it.

I think he either tries to swindle the Knicks or just keep whoever. You don't pass on either big for Mudiay or Mario. I'd be mad tho

Westbrook is one of the few I'm aware of.
So I did a survey from the NBA today (I'm part of some fan group for years that get asked to take part in surveys for them that helps decide decisions...basically focus groups).
Anyway, based on this one, the NBA is thinking about allowing single night or single game league pass options.
Cost? $5.99-11.99. lol. No one is paying $6 for a single out of market non-national game.
They should charge 99 cents for a game, really.

-shrug- trading Rubio isn't the craziest thing to me, if Flip is finally coming around to modern basketball then he'll see the importance of the 3 ball and Rubio is a 31% shooter.

Two years ago, the Knicks would've been slobbering all over the dick of a Miami Heat star.
Today?
Phil and Derek would ask Wade to polish their shoes, and maybe they'll consider adding him to the towelboy staff.
Knicks are basically dumpster diving at this point looking for talent.

Unless you live in a market that doesn't include your team, why bother with it?
For example, being in LA I get to see every Laker game (and Clipper game but that's unique). So I have my team. Nearly every Wed and Friday ESPN has decent games. Every Thursday TNT has good games. NBA TV has the fan voted game every Tuesday night. They also often have a Sat and/or Mon game. Then they cut into games. Sundays after the Superbowl, ABC has a marquis game or two. So does ESPN.
Sure, there are some good games that are missed. But really, it's overkill. The local and national coverage is beyond what anyone really needs. Sure, some diehards will need to watch games all the time, but it's niche, I'd imagine, at this point.
They should just offer 3 types of games. Full league pass, full team pass, and single games at 99 cents. In the US, that is.
Regarding interface and such, that's a different story.
Flip addressed the Rubio trade rumors two weeks ago already. "That's totally untrue." Other people have so much more angst about the Wolves and this draft than I do.
Coach Flip recognized his impact on the team's overall play, even during Ricky's abbreviated season. (When Ricky was available to play, LaVine didn't see much run. He's not that dumb.) I just don't buy this idea that they'll be quick to move on. Flip wants to win and Ricky is good. This is not even a concern for me.

It's a thing Flip talked about back before the season: he didn't how good Rubio was before he coached, which assuredly helped them bridge that extension. The defense, the playmaking, he's hugely important to everything the Wolves do.

I like having the option to jet around the league via Ballstreams if a good game falls through the national programming cracks, or if a game with playoff implications is close.
I'd be willing to pay the NBA directly if the service is good and reasonably priced. I refuse to go through a cable middleman just for my team, especially when I only live a few miles from the arena or dozens of bars showing the game.

The NBA will probably never allow you to see local games on NBA League Pass because the cable companies pay too much for exclusive rights.
Bars are a far more expensive option. And far less convenient. Sadly, cable is the only real way to see your local team.

The NBA will be far better off in the long run if they break away from cable providers.
I'd gladly pay $20/month for a Ballstreams-level service that has a little more interface polish. That's a lot better than the $0 the NBA will be getting from me otherwise.
Now that Mudiay is slipping down people's draft boards, it makes Knick's already murky BPA choice even murkier.

There are even rumors that New York is in love with Cameron Payne and are willing to trade down several spots for him LOL

"We all know if you don't shoot the 3, you're probably not going to win," says Popovich, whose Spurs set an NBA Finals record for 3s last year. "Everybody in the league shoots the 3-point shot well and knows the importance.
"I still hate it."
This is the story of how traditionalist coaches and players managed to keep the 3-pointer at the fringes of the NBA game … until now.

Look, I hate cable too. I wouldn't pay for it if not for the Lakers, TNT/ESPN games. Hell, now that Mad Men is done, I don't have a single TV show I'm following in real time (no, I haven't started GoT yet nor do I pay for HBO...eventually) that's not a Netflix show.
But I want to watch the Lakers and national games. And my only choices are pay for cable or go to a bar. But the bar would cost faaaar more (look, I've come to realize that most of the US has cheap beer at bars, but even at happy hour in an LA sports bar, you're paying $5 at best for a pint) and it's not convenient. I want to be able to lounge around for most of the NBA watching. I want to be able to do tasks I need to do. Prepare my meal for tomorrow. Etc. I don't have time to go to a bar every night or so.
Honestly, if I lived outside of LA, I'd probably just buy a league pass or team pass. I can always have access to the Watch ESPN app so all I'd need is a service to get TNT for the playoffs (I can live without it during the season). But right now I live here and my only choice is time warner or what, exactly?
Of course, you're married (with kids I believe) so you have a different lifestyle. And I might be there soon, but not yet. I still have my free time and when I'm not playing ball or going out, I want my basketball on TV! When I'm at your point, I'll probably cut the cord too.
I'm not discussing ballstreams. That's an entirely different thing.

Read this article this morning and it is a great read. I never knew Popovic hated the 3 point shot and what it's done to the game.
There's a lot of "old man yells at cloud" stuff in that article, lol. I also totally forgot how much those Pitino Knicks shot the 3 for their time.
I'm just married (no kids), but I work full-time and have a lot of stuff going on outside of work.
For most games, I follow the score and tune in if something of interest is happening. I just don't have time to watch us play the Sixers/Hornets/Kings. 82 nights per year plus the playoffs is a lot. I suppose that's the NBA's problem and the number of games is unlikely to change anytime soon.
I have even less incentive since the Thunder are constantly on ESPN/TNT/ABC. Strangely, I'd be more likely to pony up for League Pass if we sucked.
I mainly just hate blackouts. I'm not going to subscribe to an $80 cable package on top of Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, and MLS Live just for Thunder games. I'll find another way to watch that stuff until the NBA comes up with an attractive option.

It makes sense. I used to watch every Laker game but them being bad allowed me to get my shit together and start getting back to playing ball, running, doing other things I should be doing more often than just watching basketball. And when they are good again I won't change that.
I miss the Lakers being on local KCAL 9 for all road games. fucking time warner.
All I need is the lakers, TNT, ESPN, and my netflix and I'm good to go. I can throw in HBO. It's nice having FX, AMC, Food Network, etc but I don't need it. I'd be fine without it. Just give me a package I can pay less to see my sports. :(
