This isn't a SWAT (Channeling my inner Silicon Valley) diagram here. You don't say, "Well Thibs's downside is ... " when comparing him to a placeholder hire coach in Scott. We're not replacing Phil Jackson or Pop.
Maybe if you want to compare him to other possible hires ...
But those are?

Yeah no SWAT needed here. Plus they're not gonna bring in a Phil guy who's gonna run his version of a triangle.
By DY_nasty Go To PostI'd look at Brooks too if I'm LA /shrug
Maybe if you think it gives you a leg up in the 2016 Durant sweepstakes.
By Fenderputty Go To PostYeah no SWAT needed here. Plus they're not gonna bring in a Phil guy who's gonna run his version of a triangle.i mean.... LA is gonna need help rebuilding. Brooks may be a shit coach in the playoffs but he's proven to develop talent.

Durant's going to LA to play with...?
Washington if Beal makes a leap
Houston if Dwight isn't dead
OKC, otherwise
That's it.

I stopped taking posts you make seriously maybe 4-5 years ago.
EDIT: That might be a conservative guess too.
By DY_nasty Go To Posti mean…. LA is gonna need help rebuilding. Brooks may be a shit coach in the playoffs but he's proven to develop talent.
While I don't disagree, I don't think the Lakers next hire will be because they want to rock the regular season. Just keep Scott as the placeholder if youth development is all that matter. Then again Thibs hasn't really proven to be an amazing post season coach himself outside his defensive work in Boston.
I'd still pass on Thibs.
his playoff accomplishment is sketchy.
he couldn't even beat a lebron led team, which is the weakest he's been on for years.

By DY_nasty Go To PostBecause people just love playing with Dwight?Harden is truly the X-factor in the Durant sweepstakes. The foot issue is something of concern though.
Don't know how much to make of KD talking shit while in street clothes to Howard really.
By linsivvi Go To PostI think they should just keep Scott. Next season's team isn't going anywhere anyway.
OK, so play that out. Thibs is off to another squad and it's 2016. We're lucky and make a splash in FA. Who you go after for a coach?
EDIT: Leaving Westbrook to get more shots and control only to end up with Harden on his squad sounds and awful lots like the whole frying pan and fryer thing.
By Fenderputty Go To PostOK, so play that out. Thibs is off to another squad and it's 2016. We're lucky and make a splash in FA. Who you go after for a coach?im sure there are a handful of guys like Brad Stevens.
I think the Celts did a fantastic job of scouting coaches with no NBA experiences.
If i were Mitch, i'd still go after Ettore Messina.
By DY_nasty Go To PostBecause people just love playing with Dwight? With a dominant defensive center, yes. And with their best friend, yes.
I'm not really opposed to an off name and taking a chance. I don't, however, think that's how we'll play this. Especially if they're putting together a "plan for the future". I would imagine a Thibs hire would be a highlight in any interviews we do for 2016 FA pick up.
By DY_nasty Go To PostMalone is always available as well. I thought he'd already have a job by now tbhyeah i'd take him too.

Keep the dream alive, kid.
By giririsss Go To PostGetting 20wins is the defalt. NY got 17, PHI 18, MIN 16. 20 wins isn't an achievement at all. It's not an indication that the squad as potential, or …. anything positive. You genuinely have to TRY to lose less. You clearly don't read everything. it's not just a rookie big. It's that and the players they'll get via cap space that will improve the team. You have some weird impression that next season's team will look like this season's team. It won't at all. Huge overhaul coming. I'm expecting Towkafor + whoever they sign to be an overall improvement. And hopefully less injuries. They've been the most injured team 3 years running, now.
And now adding a rookie big is meant to add 10wins?
The last big that did anything in their rookie year was blake. And that was his "rookie" year. They had an arguably better, or at least, on par back court with this iteration of the lakers. And that team went from 29wins in 9-10 to 32 in 10-11.
Blake put up 22 & 12 that year.
As I said, some Knicks-ish.
Re: Thibs rumor. That is assuming Thibs takes the year off. They're not replacing Scott this offseason.

Mitch deaded the Thibs rumor.
Bill Reiter asked him in person and he said 'there's nothing to it' and that he was gonna call Coach Scott and let him know that as well.
Chill.

Figured. When a sports "journalist" can't even get basic facts right, chances are he's making up rumors as well.
Eric Pincus speculates LA packages their two other picks to move up. Mirrors MItch's concern about having too many young guys on the roster (Clarkson/Brown/Black/Randle + 3 rookies in this draft) I'd love to trade the 27th+34th to say Toronto for the 20th.

This makes sense. The 27th is a bit late in the round and they'd probably eye someone as the draft is happening.
This kind of move doesn't happen til draft night, though.

Gonna be interesting which camp will accept the minny invite for a workout.
bonus:

So, yeah. You're also counting on Ed Davis not reverting back to clown form.
