By db Go To PostI think a bunch of us were agreeing that it does?
Yes, of course. :) Not rodeo and etiolation.
By Gabyskra Go To PostSay, tomorrow, Donald Trump employs Dinesh D'Souza, who was guilty of organizing illegal political contributions, and puts him in change of fundraising, you don't think that's newsworthy and that wouldn't influence your opinion? Come on guys.I agree with you
Especially with all the PED talk - because reporters investigate that stuff harder than any league will. Hell, I don't even think baseball would've cared until the media put them front and center by doing their homework for them.
I'm just saying that I know libel and slander laws are different in Europe, but I would've never been allowed to write that. Not in the context of Eurobasket and trying to connect his play to doping (which is obviously what it's doing).
I don't see anything wrong with the article if that's how they framed it. Hell, not reporting on it would be worse.
The NCAA has come down hard on SMU basketball for infractions including academic misconduct and a 'lack of coach control' by Larry Brown. SMU has been hit with a one-year postseason ban and a loss of scholarships over the next three seasons, while Brown will be suspended for 30 percent of the team's games for the upcoming season, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.yasssssssssssssssss fuck youuuuuuuuuu larry brown eat all the dicks you old bitch
We'll update this story as it develops.
By rodeoclown Go To PostI'm just saying that I know libel and slander laws are different in Europe, but I would've never been allowed to write that. Not in the context of Eurobasket and trying to connect his play to doping (which is obviously what it's doing).Honestly it's not at all surprising what American media people are allowed to write or not write given that it might affect someone's pocketbook. Even hinting at impropriety, no matter how well founded, "oh my god we might get sued." Or the place is owned by a media corp that has a deal with a League so of course they don't want to fuck that up.
By reilo Go To PostI don't see anything wrong with the article if that's how they framed it. Hell, not reporting on it would be worse. There's a way to report the story without that implication. If an American outlet did that, they'd totally be sued. You can't prove it and in the case of libel, the burden of proof will always be with the journalist.
Nobody sues American outlets for libel and wins. I can't even think of the last time some major outlet got in trouble for inaccurate reporting.
I think it's more a media outlet wants to retain it's "relationship" with a league or group of people. Look at what ESPN is now, just a shill.
By db Go To PostHonestly when it comes to doping half the time I don't even know my opinion of it because technically a bunch of players are doping pretty consistently when injured in order to speed up recovery.I feel the same way about doping as I do about prostitution. It's gonna happen regardless of what the rules are, so let's bring it out in the open and regulate it.
The line between medical treatment and doping is blurry.
By rodeoclown Go To PostThere's a way to report the story without that implication.
The paper came out 3 days after the final, FWIW. It's quite simple reporting: Marca (the spanish sports newspaper) reported earlier this year that Gasol started working with Terrados. They did not mention Terrados' past (which is exactly how a journalist fucks up ethically). What Le Monde did is connect that little known fact with the guy's biography. The french article is not a blog post that comments on it, it's factual.
Implication should be there.
You go train with a dude known to dope athletes, welp you're going to look suspicious af.
The hell happened to a healthy dose of skepticism.

And don't give me that bullshit about the great ethics of american journalism and what you can and can not do, you have fox news using 2010 videos of muslims in France to illustrate the refugee crisis of today, with a big bold title "terrorists inbound?".

There's a difference between the media saying Obama is palling with terrorists, and making the connection between a disgraced doctor and an athlete past his prime having a career resurgence.
Sports Journalism overseas isn't quite as... 'appeasing' as it is here.
Every major outlet or aspiring up and comer has to make sure that they're in the safe zone when reporting on anything regarding the NCAA, NFL, NBA, or even MLB.

I'm gonna honest, though, I don't care about doping. If there was some kind of vaguely suspicious medical thing Ricky Rubio could do that kept his ankles on the court, I'd be all for it.
It's super funny to me that baseball is all about disgracing guys that doped in the 90s. Your game was totally dead after the strike until Mark McGuire and Barry Bonds were blasting home runs.

Ahah!
Anyway, I think you're right about corporate interests interfering with reporting more directly with the NFL and ESPN for instance, but when you look at the FIFA crisis for instance, the euro press has not been great...
Yea, ESPN is outright dropping investigative projects on the seriousness of concussions cause they didn't want to piss off the NFL.
By reilo Go To PostYea, ESPN is outright dropping investigative projects on the seriousness of concussions cause they didn't want to piss off the NFL.I mean, did you watch that Frontline piece they pulled back from? It was great, it was damning, a wider platform like ESPN is detrimental to the long term health of the sport.
By Gabyskra Go To PostAhah!FIFA is bigger than one single country though. I can at least kinda understand the hurdles there.

Look at how American outlets treat the NCAA though. They won't even talk about money - the profits from bowl week alone make the entire institution a joke.
By DY_nasty Go To PostFIFA is bigger than one single country though. I can at least kinda understand the hurdles there.Frontline actually did a great piece about the NCAA tournament maybe two years ago. Really good stuff in there from guys like Ed O'Bannon and Jalen Rose. But again, that's small time and nobody watches PBS.

David Kahn never invented a mantra followers chant continuously.
The closest thing he had was Simmons following everything he did with "Kahnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!"
I like to think this is the last year Hinkie can kick the can down the road. He will lose Brett Brown otherwise. And despite the hardcore (trust the process idiots) fans, there is a beginning of some unrest bubbling. We get bodied in the draft next year and I imagine we will see a change in protocol and some actual attempts at trying to be not ass. This gets bumped up if Jah doesn't pan out quickly and the Noel/Jah pairing doesn't work and thus one guy gets pawned off again. Brett Brown already not so subtly told Hinkie to stop making him coach 25 different scrubs a year.
I think the tank should end next year..if not, then I think Hinkie gets canned

trust the process, breh
Either he goes out with another injury again, which sucks for the league. Or he plays well enough to convince people he can still play.
Have no idea what either of those scenarios means. He gets injured - maybe he wants to come back and finish on his own terms. He plays on his own terms - maybe he wants to keep playing because he's convinced he can. And in either case he could retire too.
As long as he comes back for like Tim Duncan money, I'd be happy to have him. Otherwise I'd root for him in Charlotte or NY - which is probably where he ends up.

Should I be worried about Robin Lopez right now? Dude is too happy-go-goofy, the type of dude that is so weird that you kinda accidentally bump into him one day and he remembers it and waits until you're alone in the shower...

admit it reilo, Blazers let him go because he threatened LMA after LaMarcus refused to attribute his increased rebounds to Lopez's presence. That's the real reason LaMarcus wanted out of Portland. I knew that "feud with Lillard" story was fishy.
Lopez is working out listening to Frankie Valli, according to his twitter. Get ready for some weakass boxing out.
Bro, if you're going to go with the "Rolo is kind of creepy" angle, you should have linked his drawings of actresses and his well known obsession with Emmy Rossum.
