As a knick fan I'm not that worried Melo looks real healthy and apparently recovered from the surgery in the best time frame.
All those other issues are not as bad as they seem either. The knicks have 25 mil (before either trading or stretching Calderon) and will have another 20+ mil for the next 2 seasons on top of that. It might not go the knicks way but they've positioned themselves to have the best opportunity to do it regardless.

Are Laker fans hopeful of being relevant within the next 2 years? At this point y'all seem like rebuilding through the draft as long as Byron Scott is under contract and your team is in the money sink.
I'd give LA 3-5 seasons before they're playoff contention ready again.
The league is changing and you can't just get big names off the LA brand alone anymore.

The scapegoat massacre has begun in Toronto.
All those people sacrificed just so that Dwayne Casey can keep his job.

Melo being in tip top shape was pretty much the same narrative entering last season.
Don't let the him or the Zen Master fool you into buying season tickets.
Toronto's going nowhere until they bolster the roster or get rid of DeRozan.

Doubt LA is in the playoff (as first round fodder) for at least 2-3 seasons. I'm kewl with the draft express life til then, definitely not making any 'I'm gonna miss tanking' posts any time soon.

I don't think anybody is pining for relevance as much as I am. Nobody likes the Timberwolves, nobody even cares about them, really. They haven't made the playoffs since 2004, opposing fans show up when they come to your town because you think it's an easy win and Andrew Wiggins might put up 20. I'm dying to not be a joke anymore.
I mean, I've grown up and have some kind of a life and other interests now, I'm not living and dying with this team on a night to night basis anymore, but god damn if a single solitary playoff series wouldn't be the most important thing I had going on for like two weeks. Just try to win for once. I hate losing. Even a 50 team that perpetually loses in the first round is better than this existence. If I'm really talking about how we need Ben Simmons this December, ugh...

Although I dislike Rubio for reasons that aren't entirely basketball related.
Terrence Ross telling unwashed Canadian masses to be grateful for his presence in their bum ass franchise.
So the first candidate the Pelicans are seeking out is Alvin Gentry. Convince me not to grab the closest sharp object and end the misery right now....This franchise doesnt deserve Davis if they aim this low.
If you want the proven NBA guy shoot aim for the best one. If you want a risky venture go after an up and comer. What is the NBA's fascination with hiring failed coaches???

Don't people realize he deliver his team to WCF?

There are plenty of fans out there desperate for Alvin to coach them. He might have been the best case scenario for OKC.
Alvins a really great coach, and only got run out of PHX because he doesn't believe in bull shit fuckery to appease the front office.
I'd be scared of the numbers Brow would put up with Gentry at the helm.
i'd drop a dead strippers body in steve clifford's office right now if i knew we'd hire gentry to replace him wtf

He is. The guy has failed 3 times now. He is 60 years old. How many coaches in that situation have turned their careers around and became elite head coaches in this league?
He is a great lead assistant but nothing convinces me he should be the head man in charge of a team.
My bigger issue is that this is the first guy we sought out to speak to.
If you are worried about bringing in unproven guys then go get Thibs or Van Gundy(who local insiders said he was very interested). The play just makes zero sense to me.
To me going after a guy who couldn't find a way to succeed 3 times is a much riskier proposition then going after a guy that is unproven at this level but projects well: Malone(coached a handful of games but still should be in this category), Hoiberg, Sean Miller, Atkinson, Bennett.
By giririsss Go To PostBuah? Can you sell me on him then? What makes him this great coach that just happened to fail 3 times?

I researched him prior to the news and saw less to Iike in comparison to other options like Thibs, Malone, Van Gundy, and college guys that project well like Hoiberg, Bennett, Miller or assistants like Atkinson in Atlanta.

he's damned good hire for a team needing direction like NOLA

I seriously gonna cry if Bulls picking those college coach instead Gentry
legit cringe
Suns had mediocre record at last 2 year of Gentry, because they had mediocre ass roster after Amare left, even then if you watched them they always felt well coached, run various playset and smooth.. what more you want from coach?
Run your player to the ground n playing them 40mpg?
Draw 2-3 set of backdoor play?
What?

Ok then Pel, just trade 2nd round pick for Thibs
We get Gentry, everybody happy.
I'm sure you looking forward some selfie from AD from hospital at LA came march next year

Maybe we can get Malone as an assistant if all of these other teams keep passing on him.
That would be cool.

But he had the support of the FO and definitely got the players he wanted (he was being groomed for the position anyways) whereas Gentry was making due with transitional scraps during his time there.
By fertygo Go To PostOk then Pel, just trade 2nd round pick for ThibsIf the choice is Thibs who has dragged superstarless rosters to the playoffs every year he had to and has one of the best winning percentages of NBA coaches all time vs a guy that has made the playoffs 2 times in 12 years, yeah, give me Thibs.

That Suns team at last year of Gentry has Beasley as projected starter, they sent to die by their FO

compare that roster to the one from the previous year.

Do you understand? Thibs will kill him.
Thibs has had a ton of talent to work with and put out a junk offense every year. You put Thibs with that Pelicans roster, they'll be improved on D but that offense will have you pulling out your hair.
black mr. mackey's record isn't that amazing tbh but i really liked that 2010 phx team
only like 3 elite coaches in the nba anyway and they all got jobs so eh...i'll take him

You put Thibs with that Pelicans roster, they'll be improved on D but that offense will have you pulling out your hair.I am of the opinion Thibs gets the most out of his talent and develops players well. Lots of players go to Chicago and have great years, not many start in Chicago and leave Chicago and go on to have better ones.
I think Thibs makes a lot of his players look so good because he is good at getting the best out of them and making them work in his system. Gasol, Belinelli, Robinson, Augustin, Watson etc.
In his 5 years Thibs has had a 11th, 11th and 5th ranked offense. And I would argue that the roster he would inherit in New Orleans is more offensively potent then any roster he had in Chicago....Our biggest problem was defense. Which Thibs has worked miracles with rosters before.

Bulls always looked like had playoff roster for the weak conference
As long they putting effort they made it, and yeah sureeeeeeee Thibs made sure they putting effort, to the point they had no gas left for post-season.
Just look to Thibs playoff record, its incredibly weird for coach that had stellar reg season record, that should tell something.

it was damn close to reality this season, but Thibs will make damn sure those dudes get paid to give 100% in rehab
the bulls never have had amazing offensive talent across the board under thibs regime. the old noah/boozer frontcourt was lawl and luol deng and rose could never reliably hit threes. things were a little better with gasol and butler but rose has turned into trash so what can ya do
Stealing another one of Popovich's assistants isn't out of the question either. You could take Jim Boylen or Chip Engelland. Risking and looking for fresh coaches is better than the current pool we have right now.
Gentry was/is a brilliant coach. There's reasons why head coaches have stolen him to be their lead assistant.
He's a brilliant player manager. He gets guys to buy in, but also be held responsible whilst not taking bull shit excuses. He's great at talent management, and treats everyone incredibly fairly. He goes out of his way to be available to his players in any way/form that they want to. Guy signed up for facebook so amare could message him.
He holds players accountable on both ends of the floor. There's no one end. If you're not going to play defense, he'll bench you, no matter your salary. He's not asking you to do what you can't. Though he does expect development. Amare stopped playing defense, so got benched after about 5 minutes of one game. For the whole game. Gentry was unapologetic when he said it was because he wasn't trying on D. Rest of the season Amare actually looked competent on that end.
He puts into place schemes that maximise players talents. That GSW offense is master minded by Alvin. Players and Kerr have admitted so. Doc, who was an average offensive coach brought Alvin in to try and get the most out of a really mediocre (outside cp3/blake) clippers roster. The GSW offense has tons of gentry hallmarks all over it, largely, putting guys into position to maximise their best talents. Sure, klay may be able to put a smaller 2guard on the block and post him up, but that slows down flow, and Klay is a brilliant 3p shooter. You're wasting half of what he is, by posting him up, and slowing down your own offense, taking the rest of the team out of it.
When given talent, Gentry has done well. He's had some really shitty teams to coach, and even then, probably got them to over achieve slightly. Gentry got sacked from the Suns because the FO wanted him to only play vets so they could sell the narrative that they were making a play off push. He said no, I'm giving time to our rooks/youth to see what they really have, so we can make plans for the future. This was a team that was 13-28 at the time.
The Suns fan base was furious.Seriously, their Facebook page was brutal.
The next year, the Suns did what Gentry wanted to do, and blew it up and accepted what they were. After firing the guy who fired Gentry.
The 13-14 Suns had a lot more talent than the 12-13 Suns. He got a team giving minutes to, Josh Childress, Michael Redd, Grant Hill, Ronnie Price, Sebatian Telfair, Hakim Warrick to .500. For a lot of those guys that was the very last time they were even remotely relevant. I think the starters for that season were Nash, Dudley, Hill, Frye, Gortat. They went .500. In the West.
In the play off's Gentry actually out coached pop. Or, in the least, was certainly on his level. That Amare went MIA in the Lakers series, and Kobe was just hitting anything he wanted (Kobe's gone on record that he was just in a zone that series), and they still had a really good chance in the series, really wasn't Alvins fault. And I never felt like Phil Jackson was styling on him.
He's also a great talent evaluator, gave minutes to a young dragic, got a lot ouof dudley. Had Shannon Brown looking like he might actually be something.
I'm still mad that the Suns fired him.
