By reilo Go To PostNobody is talking shit, we're just providing a differing opinion. If we waited until the season started and only talked about things in hindsight, this thread would have nobody talking. The entire point of the off-season is to discuss the future. Sitting around and saying "wait and see" is boring and leads to zero discussion.
Some of the posts are made so 'matter of fact' and completely dismissive it's definitely bordering shit talking in some aspects. Not that I'm annoyed, I just find it comically dismissive considering the past predictions and biases of the people making the claims. I think some people are under the impression you have to have a team stacked with top 5 players in every position to win a championship or to be competitive.
It seems like post "The Decision" NBA has manifested this idea into peoples heads, imo.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostThey lead them to championships. I'm not talking about championships! I'm talking about a good season, possible playoff berth. A .500 season. The group here is under the impression they will be a 300s team.A .500 season would be a 24 win improvement. That's how many more games the Knicks need to win just to get to 41 wins. Did you add enough players to make you improve by 24 wins? I don't think so. Especially when you're that bottom of the barrel. It's also a very rare and difficult thing to do. Usually only 1, maybe 2 teams do a feat like that each season.
The Knicks being a .300s team is actually a 10-15 win improvement. Think about that.
I had a conversation with a dude the other day that claimed to have watched "about 80" of the Knicks games last year. For this fleeting moment in time, we became this weird support group for bad teams. As a concerned citizen, I tried to warn him about Derrick Williams, though.

Every time you or someone else brings this up, we always bring up the fact that this was a tanking D-league team last year playing without its star player for much of the season, or played with him hobbled and injured. On top of locker room tension with players, and egos. And that our D-league team lost by an average of 6 points per game over 30 times. And nobody really ever has a proper retort to that notion.
Everyone's too caught up in the number 19, but forget all of the circumstances.
The number you're thinking of is 17, not 19. You also added Derrick Williams, that's like -5 wins right there.

The biggest addition is Melo coming back and it will count for quite a bit. But I fail to see where people have given a prediction. Myself, I'm saying the recruitment is no reason to celebrate.
When you see the kind of talent they'll be competing against to be at best an afterthought, it's scary. Bucks have MCW, Monroe, Giannis, Middleton... Vasquez is better than Calderon, Mayo is pretty much Afflalo... Bobcats will have better everything... Raptors and Heat have so much more talent... Cavs Bulls Wiz Hawks are not even in the same conversation... It will take the best Melo ever to get the 8th spot. Time wasted.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostWas Monroe an option for New York? Nice upside. I'd have gone with that over Rolo.
He was their first choice and the most sought after. He chose a better team. But Phil took him out to the best restaurant, I hear. He's that good. #touristwins
Melo on the Knicks has fielded a team of 54 wins, 41, 39, and 17. Also a 36-30 season during the lock, which translates to roughly 47 wins and his first season with the Knicks where they won 43 games, but he only played in 27 games. You can only say he wasn't healthy for one of those seasons.
So, I wonder, what is everyone expecting of Carmelo at age 30 after serious knee surgery? If you expect Carmelo to be the player he was for you two or three seasons ago, that seems like asking a lot.
So, unless you think Afflalo and Lopez are that much of an improvement over what those squads had, 35-40 wins sounds about right to me.

Harmless typo. And yet I see no retort. ;)
A bench player isn't going to screw us out of games unless he gets significant minutes as a result of an injury. He's still an upgrade over JR, though.

By AlphaSnacks Go To PostA bench player isn't going to screw us out of games unless he gets significant minutes as a result of an injury. He's still an upgrade over JR, though.JR gave you 18PPG off the bench on average 3PT shooting when the Knicks won 54-games.

Agreed 100%. They're tentatively 9th or 10th in the East. Shit happens though, always a bit of uncertainty.
I also find it funny how earlier someone said Derrick Williams was signed for cheap when his market value was probably closer to the minimum than 4M+...
By reilo Go To PostI just gave you one, sucker.
JR gave you 18PPG off the bench on average 3PT shooting when the Knicks won 54-games.
Thank you. So 35-40 range (about where I'm expecting tbh) isn't 300s. It's low/high 400s. And if this team has its shit together if only a little bit, 500s should be easy. I'm glad we can come to an understanding, actually.
Also, JR giveth and taketh away. Remember that. He gave us a great season once. And never again. He is forever fuckball and had a silly contract that Dolan should've never agreed to - such is the 6th man curse, though (some exclusions apply). Derrick Williams won't have the privilege to fuck around and at least has a decent head on his shoulders and a normal human being's personality, as well. Plus the fact that he's not rotting in Rihanna's pussy and never killed his best friend is a major bonus.
By reilo Go To PostSo your team will still suck.Would you be surprised if they end up 29-53? I would not.
By reilo Go To PostSo your team will still suck.

By db Go To PostHow often do the Knicks play the Nets.
4 times this season.
I still say people are underestimating how much better NY's defense will be this year. They got markedly better when Amundson and Galloway joined the team. They've kept those pieces and added Rolo and Afflalo.
Having like 8 guys who are good to great on defense is a huge step up from the 1 or 2 they had for the majority of the season. Not to mention, Porzi seems to have a decent instinct for blocking shots as well.
A lineup of Galloway/Afflalo/Melo/Amundson/RoLo will be pretty difficult to score on consistently.

Yeah, their opponent scored 103 points/g post all star weekend, while it was at 100 before ASW...
But fuck facts, amirite? Let me make some other shit up so I can say Phil Jackson is a genius for fielding nobodies and forgottens

People don't even want to argue with me over it because yeah... my logic actually makes fucking sense lol. There is no reality where O'Quinn at the 4 and a Jose Calderon led offense go .500.

They don't have the firepower to run with anyone and they damn sure can't stop anyone. They'll be really questionable on the glass too. You gotta have at least one of those things going for you.
Not to mention the Knicks' insistance on keeping it a triangle offense. Lots of adjustment for these new guys.

Shit I wrote this really great break down of the knicks and hit the reload button.... so here is it stripped down version
http://nypost.com/2015/07/15/how-derek-fisher-phil-jackson-are-tweaking-knicks-offense/
The knicks look to be building a PnR/Triangle hybrid team that relies on transition. I remember we talked about it briefly in the draft thread but basically it would rely on 2 ball handlers trying to score quick in transition or to go for a quick screen and pops. In this scenario Triangle plays would be the option if the knicks got forced into a half court situation, but the PG would be more important since they would have to pick and choose which to go for.
You can always put Melo, Seraphin, and KP there as well and 2 other guys are competing for Calderon's spot already. The knicks have players to play small ball, Two Bigs, Fast. Hell they can even surround Melo with Shooters if the decide to put KP at the 5 (though I doubt they'll do it). If last year was about trying to learn the basic triangle this year will probably be about figuring out what works. I'm also hoping Fisher is the type of coach to make good in game changes. The knicks haven't had a guy do that since Van Gundy

Is it a work issue for you? Our games tip around 7:30-8PM EST, which should be 4:30-5PM for you.
By db Go To PostYeah work issue. Get off at 7pm pst. Basically miss games entirely that are happening back east.
Sucks...you can always grab the games online after they've aired though. May not be the most high-horse thing to do, but torrents of Knicks games are available within 10 hours. These past few years I've been paying for LeaguePass, and blacked out games I've had to resort to downloading HD torrents, because fuck NBA LP and its outdated rules.

At least there though I would find a local bar that had CSNNW, not gonna be that easy with a non local team.
HOUSTON – Rockets center Dwight Howard was detained at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Friday for having a handgun in his carry-on bag.
Houston Police Department spokesperson Kese Smith said Wednesday that Howard was stopped at Terminal E at 7 a.m. when Transportation Security Administration officials discovered a pistol in the bottom of a carry-on bag.
Howard told officials the gun was his, and after being detained by law enforcement officials he was allowed to give the handgun to an associate.
The Houston District Attorney's office was contacted after Howard was detained and declined to press any criminal charges against him.
Dwight will always be a moron.

I'll be meta for a second and comment the commentary, but in US sports culture, I always find it fascinating how some people think it's a matter of pride or loyalty to defend the team they root for, no matter what. There's no end to that attitude, it's campy as shit, and leads to disillusion. Like, if reilo was around saying he's happy Aldridge left, or Heat fans saying they expect a title without LeBron, would you feel the discussion has any worth? Why adopt such an attitude, like Knicks fans are a mob that needs to stand up à la "right or wrong, my country", alongside one another? A message board and discussing ideas is not playing ball.
But it's really worse at Sla&nt, cos in the real world, more Knicks fans dislike the KP pick than there are those who like it... I think they're wrong, but at least they can be critical...
By Mamba Go To PostDwight will always be a moron.King of Self-Inflicted Ls.
By Vahagn Go To PostANYONE is an upgrade over Bargnani and Jason Smith. You of all people should know this.
Galloway/Calderon/Grant is better than long stretches of Hardaway Jr and Larkin. And the PG is the least important part of the triangle.
They're not massive upgrades, but he didn't spend substantial money on those positions either. Marginal upgrades for marginal $ seems about right.
first of all Bargs and Williams are basically the same when it comes to worthlessness on D and the boards. Williams has better tools tho.
Also weren't you head of the Bargs is a good fit for the triangle club last season? lol
we have already seen long stretches of Jose and Galloway in NY and well I guess it was better than colon cancer...
Timmy played SG which was upgraded.
Bargs is a good fit, Phil's suggested as much in multiple interviews including the Phil files. But KP is Bargs with tons of upside, so he had to go and should have gone.
I've said that as well.
