Athletes make way too much money but it's a symptom of a greater problem. Like how are owners and players going to make that much then lean on taxpayers to flip the bill for their "state of the art" stadiums. Shit makes me sick tbh.

Preach. Taxes do not even guarantee that they don't go back to the wealthy.
Yeah, the owners shouldn't be getting money from taxpayers, but I don't have an issue with how much money owners and athletes earn. If they weren't worth what they earned, they wouldn't get paid that much...except for the Knicks' players, I guess.
The so called jobs and revenue provided by the stadiums never even comes close to breaking even on the original burden on the tax payers either. Floored me when Santa Clara taxpayers really wanted the Niners that bad, Levi Stadium is such a boondoggle.
I don't think i have it in me today to get into a economic discussion in an NBA thread today.
I don't even like economics.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostI'm all for taxes, but there's a limitYou'd be surprised how much income rich people just sit on. That's why higher taxes for them wouldn't even be an issue. But they're trying to measure their worth by money they don't even spend.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostI'm all for taxes, but there's a limit
Yeah you never know if you're gonna make a trillion dollars tomorrow, what if you can't get that mansion for your jays because the State wants to fund schools instead and get teachers above poverty wages
I'm all for progressive taxes and 90% taxation on the rich in the 50's was awesome, but that was also after world war 2 when all of Europe was leveled.
Trying that now, with globally competitive markets and efficiency of starting power plants in other countries makes it impossible to do that.
Find a moderate estimate of how much we can tax rich people and still be globally competitive, then charge that much.
But yea, raising taxes on the rich for the sake of raising them is still a MUCH better position to hold than lowering them for the sake of lowering them.

The next few weeks will be news of stars skipping out on team usa practice and players going to China.
prepare yourselves

Just as long as that news doesn't include any more injuries i'm fine with that.

G-TYME and Plumlee both there. Can Mason even look at Hayward in the eyes after what G-TYME did to him last season?

Last season, Hassan Whiteside became the first player in 54 years to average 10 points and 10 rebounds in less than 24 minutes per game.

MCW and Harris were the two I did not expect to see. However, team usa basically plays kentucky ball so I think people worry too much about shooting. Team USA avoids the halfcourt game if they can. Just pressure defense and break.
I didn't realize Rolo broke a door when he was on the Suns. The audio remix lol.

I had that moment last year where my raise bumped me up just enough to leave me with less money at the end of the year due to missing some tax credits and paying more.
What credits?

pretty much yea
with that level of talent and athleticism, its the best way to get results
even with all that talent the half court stuff looks a bit shit most times--probably due to court spacing
i heard they are continuing to push the 3pt line further back so that might help the half court game

Can't remember exactly. Turbo Tax just pointed out that I was no longer eligible for a handful of them. There were 3 or 4 that I previously qualified for. Since there's nothing I could do about it, I just shrugged and moved on with things. I've since received another raise that put me in a much better spot.

Ah yeah, that's right.
sounds like the usa minicamp is going to be a glorified good ol' boys club followed by an unofficial all-star game
By Gabyskra Go To PostThat's not how progressive taxation works, but for the record:
- that kind of income comes at the expense of other people's income, distribution of wealth is not God's way of giving you shit, it is man-made, arbitrary, the result of positions of power.
- the highest tax bracket on income tax was above 90% for more than 2 decades in the US.
- you'll be fine with 30M. Chill.
He made a blanket statement, I responded with a generalized blanket response.
I was a Poli-Sci major. I know a thing or two about this stuff. Wasn't looking for a debate. Just saying that I don't agree.
Kobe Bryant on ending career overseas: 'I can see myself doing that'Laters breh.
thanks for the 5 chips.
please dont ball hog the ball this upcoming season.
It's D'angelo's team now.
So why would Kobe go play overseas? What reason would he have to do that? Does he really want to shoot 40 times a game that badly?

The highest paid player in Europe over the past few years got something in between the 3-4M dollars range. Which happens to be exactly what Dominique Wilkins got in 1996, but the market was slightly lower back then. Kobe could make 5M and some, with higher levels of taxation. Pretty sure his answer was a hypothetical, he's asked, he's not the one bringing it up.

Money.
Seems like the NBA might be really high on The Brow this year, as they should be. Pelicans are playing opening night and Christmas.

Kobe's always talked about retiring and then moving his family back to Italy. I doubt he does that with Kobe INC underway, but if he does, he'll probably buy a team and then play just to sell tickets like MJ Wizards did.
It would be like those retired soccer icons joining the MLS kinda thing.
On the real though - It was insane how good he was that season before his Achilles tore. If that never happens he's probably passing Malone on the scoring list this upcoming season.

Yeah. 2013 Kobe was pretty damn good. Real shame about the injuries.
I still don't see Kobe retiring until he's like 38 or 39.

Maybe if he unguarantees his contract. Otherwise, no one will take on a player who is on trial for felony assault. He also had a down season last year to say the least.
By diehard Go To Postlol Kobe is not passing Malone on the scoring list this season, and probably not ever.
He lost two whole seasons, after he was averaging like 28 a game. Yea he won't pass Malone, but he probably would have with 3 productive seasons
Kobe could have passed Malone, sure, but not now. Malone could have had a ring, but didn't. Sad face emoticon.

His end goal was always one upping Jordan.
Passing Malone would've been just icing on the cake.
