By Gabyskra Go To PostIf I was a GM who just overpaid a center, I wouldn't go around saying I didn't feel like giving an extra 25% at the same position for an All-NBA 1st Teamer. Just a lack of sense. "Saying shit" is not a plan, shit, i would clown a troll/Frankman so hard if he said that.
he knew he had no chance at getting Marc so he just acting like I didn't want him at that price anyways. Phil has always been a troll
By blackace Go To Posthe knew he had no chance at getting Marc so he just acting like I didn't want him at that price anyways. Phil has always been a trollYeah. P.much.
The troll here isn't that they "considered his value". It's trolling the NY Fans that they 'dismissed" gasol.
Y'all weren't on his sigma checklist.
Phil Jackson in a conversation 5 months ago speaking about Gasol being amazing but a max deal hampering his ability to sign other good guys is now "Phil thinks Marc isn't worth the max"
Every GM has talked about what max contracts do to your flexibility to sign other guys.
Actual quote:
That reads like "Marc Gasol is awesome. But 18 million leaves us a little tight to surround the roster with talent" said 5 months ago before anyone really knew how much dudes like Chandler and RoLo would command and before people realized how much the cap went up this year. And he never said he wouldn't sign Gasol, just indicating the issue with adding a second max deal to the payroll. Seems like he thinks the world of Marc Gasol and singled him out as a winner and a really great basketball player.
But hey, click bait is easier than critical thinking.
Every GM has talked about what max contracts do to your flexibility to sign other guys.
Actual quote:
The question is who to offer the big money to? A guy who's an established player or someone who has sky-high potential? Also, there are, and always have been, really good players who are not winners – guys like Joe Barry Carroll, Glenn Robinson and many more whom I don't care to name. And then there's someone like Marc Gasol, who's certainly a winner and would have to be paid somewhere around $18 million, a number that would severely limit what we could offer other players. We'd wind up with starters only getting about $5 million. So there are endless ramifications to the salary cap situation, and rules within rules.

He started out the quote asking a rhetorical question of "who to offer the big money to" and ended settling on Gasol as the one guy he named. But somehow that translates to "Phil doesn't think Marc is worth the max" cmon son.
By DY_nasty Go To Postbut they paid melo
so like wtf
Right. Again, this isn't about Marc not being worth the max. It's about Marc, Melo, Calderon taking up around 48 million in a projected cap of 67 million (5 months ago) and needing to fill 12 roster spots with the 19 million left in a presumably "win now" situation.
All he's saying is what every GM has said. "If three guys take up 50 million, we're in bad shape in terms of getting good caliber players around them"
PJ 99 times out of a 100 offers Marc 18 million if Marc is interested. He's just highlighting the problem that contract would present (severly limiting what other offers they could make.)
I mean, RoLo waited around to sign contingent on Deandre accepting a deal. The same kind of deal being talked about here. So it's clear Phil thinks Marc is awesome and he'd be willing to spend that much on someone of that caliber, just ruminating on the downsides of such a deal.
Sounds a lot like the same bullshit reasoning OKC and Gondo throw out as to why they didn't give Harden the extra $5mil.
Man you guys twisted the fuck out of Phil's words. Holy crap.
Worst of all, on a rhetorical situation, at that.
Anything to hate on the Knicks.

Knicks had cero chance at Marc, he didn't meet with any team and was chilling with Grizz reps in Spain.
Phil really needs to learn to shut the fuck up tho, you can troll as a coach and send hits but when you're calling player personnel shots and making GM decisions you can't be this fuckless.

D-Trill and Booze on the same team? Maybe a small-ball front court of Trill/Melo/Booze for stretches?
Knicks truly know the beauty of the little things in life.

Like for real you do realize he offered DJ the max right?
He woulda offered Marc the same if Marc was taking meetings.
Saying "giving players the max limits our flexibility" is not a controversy. Ya'll done lost your minds.

You're not wrong, but Phil needs to keep his thoughts to himself more often.

Except he offered Monroe the max, DJ the max, and Rolo 13 million per. Now if Marc agreed to sign there but balked at being offered 17 million instead of 18. You can say he's like Presti and I'd be clowning him right with you. But this is just piss poor reading comprehension and click bait.
If anyone should be offended it's the dudes he name dropped as "not being winners". Not Marc who he singled out as awesome.
The Knicks success hinges on Melo playing defense. Either he does or doesn't. If he doesn't they'll never really be contenders. If he does. Between him, Afflalo, Galloway, and RoLo you'd have a solid enough defensive lineup that you could afford an offensive minded PF like Boozer.
But yea Boozer is a bad defensive fit and Melo will probably never play defense, soooo
PJ is doing multi part features of on every thought he had so far at NY.
He loves the attention... few other GMs / Coaches love it like him

Yeah and you can say the sun can fuck up your skin, you still need your vitamin D. Enough with the common sense bullshit rationalizing The problem is he gave almost all of that money to a bum anyway, in spite of saying he wants to be careful with that cash. Only Knicks fans and Phil Jackson apologists will defend it. You don't go around saying, I don't know if Gasol is worth Lopez+O'Quinn money...
Its not even like he had a meeting with Gasol. All of this debate is because he's not dickriding a player he never had a chance to sign?
What was he suppose to do shit on the players on his roster and say "I wouldn't sign any of you if i had a chance at marc"? Phil's not dumb enough to do that.
He's not the GM of the kings.

No one is saying he should unload praise on Marc and express his regret in not being able to sign him....he should just keep it moving like every other GM who would have loved to sign Marc.

What a shitty gm. Have him hanged
I'll take booze. Good character guy and we need more scoring which is like the only thing he can do.
Wouldn't he pretty much be relegated to 10-12 minutes a game and some garbage time on a small contract?
It's either him or Seraphin. Not sure who I'd prefer, if we're talking table scraps. Stats say Boozer is better across the board, though.

I rather the knicks hold the 2.8 in case/when somebody half decent gets waived. Somebody half way decent always get waived due to a trade or some cap relief move or some bullshit.
Don't sign Boozer if you want to win games, NY just got out of the Bargnani era, why get another defensive liability big with inconsistent offense?
At leas tin Booz's case he's inconsistent cause he's old-ish
