Sweet jebus. It's not about marginalizing analytics. It's about PDA/Mullin crew.
Vlade probably cares less about analytics than PDA. Doesn't mean they don't want analytics or are some angry anti-data curmudgeon.

By thekad Go To PostConsidering sportando broke the news, I'm inclined to trust their reporting, especially now that the Kings have received backlash.what backlash?
you really don't think it's strange that this sudden news of Vlade being strongly opposed to analytics is breaking out just now in light of Oliver being let go?
nothing of any sort has been suggested since Vlade has been in the FO
if it was true, we prob would've heard something leading up to the draft and free agency
I will say that it is more believable than not (which just makes it that much easier to sell the narrative) considering Vlade carries himself like an old-school type of basketball mind but people in the NBA tend to be more vocal about their opinions on this type of matter so I'll wait 'til I hear something from Vlade himself or one of the usual news sources we frequently get info from
Why would it be strange for the news to break now? He isolated their well-regarded director of player personnel then fired him. Probably after he disagreed with trading away a ton of picks and signing Rondo and trying to sign Bargnani.
Seems much closer to the truth than a conspiracy to disparage an organization that is already a laughingstock.

Wait
So were the Kings an analytics team now? Thought they weren't.
I can' t keep track of the kool klub membership.

Yeah, it's actually quite strange that it breaks out now considering Vlade has constantly made himself publicly available for comments about the organization and his decision making yet there wasn't ever a comment about him damning analytics in evaluating draft talent or free agent signings.

How convenient that this narrative suddenly appears just because a stats guy from the PDA era was let go.
Sac's problems are deeper than an analytics guy getting canned.
The fact that people are constructing these narratives goes to show how poorly people view leadership there.
Isn't Vivek only head rep of the ownership group, can't he be yanked from power and replaced? That sounds like the best thing you can do unless Vivek is just following orders.

He is the lead/head rep of an ownership group. Some of these moves are making penance for the Malone fuck-up and the fallout. I had heard murmurs that he was feeling heat from the ownership group following the Malone firing and that it got worse over time. Karl was the first move that seemed to be pushed by the local fans and local owners.
This is like a history of how shit went wrong, possibly or very likely:
-PDA/Mullin/Devner/GS crew didn't want Malone. "pace"
-But Kings start off winning
-Cousins sickness gave them an in to push to fire him.
-Malone fired
-Bunch of talk about pace, jazz, etc.
-Team kind of quits after the Malone firing
-One idea was that Mullin would take over next year. This is why Vivek gave Corbin the whole season when it wasn't needed.
-PDA assures Cousins that Corbin is staying the coach
-New of Corbin's contract leaks
-Team continues to bomb
-Local ownership started losing patience
-Fans began Karl push
-Local ownership wanted Karl. Team had fully quit on season
-Karl is PDA's guy and who he wanted, but apparently Cousins agents had issue with Karl, and Cousins was upset that there might be another coaching change after PDA told him Corbin was the coach.
-Vivek signs off on Karl hire to appease ownership group. PDA just has to make the move.
-PDA halts on making the move. Worries about Cousins reaction
-PDA lets leak that Cousins camp is holding up the Karl hiring
-Everyone gets mad at PDA
-Karl is hired.
-Denver team is now PDA/Mullin/Oliver/Karl/Bratz
-Season does not turn around
-Cousins and Gay take games off at end of season
-Karl objects to this, though FO approved the resting of Cousins and Gay.
-Karl feels Cousins isn't ready to commit due to this, starts seeking out other options
-Shit not cool still with local ownership, so the Vlade move is made
-PDA still has leaks. Karl drops the "everyone is tradeable"
-Vivek makes Vlade 'the man'
-Mullin leaves
-PDA sees he's lost power, starts to look for outs. Leaves
-Rumor mill fires up post-PDA about Cousins trade because of Karl
-Vlade has to repair everything
-Vlade makes VERY RISKY trade to clear space and get vet, chemistry guys and talent. Overhauls roster.
-Dean Oliver leaves
-Only Bratz and Karl remain of the PDA crew
The bold stuff is all the shit that's backfired in the Kings face. It really all goes back to Malone, which may be one of the worst coaching moves in NBA history just due to the damage it did to everything.
That whole thing should be bolded tbh.
I wonder what the universe where Malone wasn't fired looks like.

Portland will send two second-round picks to Cleveland, league sources tells Yahoo Sports.
lol
Wait what? Shouldn't Portland be receiving the picks?
Also they're dumping Miller to save money. Lebron leaving next year

By IWMTB19 Go To PostWhy would you give up 2 picks for Mike Miller.I wish Pimpwerx were still here to explain
Or wait, no I don't.
Portland gave up 2 picks to save cash, Cavs basically did it to save cash + get meh picks.
Weren't there rumors that CLE was gonna get decent players in exchange for the salary dump?

wtf was even the point of the trade for Portland? a 1 season rental of 35-year old Mike Miller?
never mind
had no idea Portland was still so below the min salary threshold
That makes way more sense.
Port gets too meh picks and they needed to hit the salary floor too I think.

By etiolation Go To PostIt is a red flag. It may be that Karl thought he could do it with PDA there, but got informed Vlade was the new postmaster. Vlade himself said that Karl must learn to trust him, so that issue is likely there.
The problem was they gave Karl some role to make trades when they signed him..
By Shun Go To PostTristan Thompson still isn't signed? What's going on there I thought he was given 80m contract?Nope, even LeBron forsook TT and signed first. He was planning on not signing yet to pressure Cavs into paying him but they are so far apart LeBron balked. Story here.
Marc Stein β@ESPNSteinLine 2h2 hours agoForgot to factor in Haywood and Miller trade... so not 30+ million anymore.
Numbers a bit deceiving because Cavs still want to do deals with Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith and Matthew Dellavedova. But as we speak Cleveland will cut its luxury tax bill from $32 million and change to $4-plus million by shedding salaries of Haywood/Miller.

the cap is raising so I'm ok with it
By DY_nasty Go To Postdoes it bother you that melo gets paid like an mvp?Lot of people get paid like MVPs that aren't as good as Carmelo. Am I supposed to bitch about them too?
This is why you need to stop trolling and actually address the question at hand. The difference in my scenario is Carmelo is a star player operating in the nebulous area of star player/superstar strata. Tristan Thompson is a role player that does part of one thing well (offense rebound) wanting to get paid like a role player who does everything well (shoot, defend, pass, drive, etc.)... and there were initial question about paying Dray that money also.
By blackace Go To PostBut the trade was to make room for double T right? Or are they going to say fuck it and sign JR?Stein says they still want to sign TT, JR, and Delly.
