From a modeling photo shoot?
Yeah...sure. The Jersey cut of the standard OKC jerseys is the only saving grace.

houston jerseys don't sell either
I hate when they try to do old school designed jerseys but with none of the quality and attention to detail it actually requires.
By DY_nasty Go To Postnaw, those jerseys sell like shitNot true for our part. KD has the #4 selling jersey, and Russ is #12. No Rox players in the top 15 though.

Our merch is #5 in the whole NBA too: http://www.nba.com/2015/news/04/14/nba-most-popular-jerseys-2014-15-season-lebron-james-still-reigns/
Not that popularity equals quality (it clearly doesn't). We still need a re-branding.

Houston though... You gotta work way too hard to make that jersey work with whatever else you plan to where.
By reilo Go To Postlol at Harden not even being Top 15 despite a MVP-caliber season and a Top 5 market.Plus the Rox' supposed popularity in the world's most populous country.
By DY_nasty Go To Posthell, i'd even take under armorNah, breh. Nah.
Nike or bust.

D'Angelo Russell with that 6' 9.75'' wingspan. So long, fingers crossed he nailed his interview today.
It's definitely draft time when I'm looking at the size of dudes' hands.

Sort of off topic to the thread's intention, but Chris Webber went off track on this Morning's Dan Patrick radio show when asked to express his feelings on the 30/30 docu about the fab 5. Apparently he wasn't consulted until a week before it was finished lol. He shat on Jalen as hard as he could without naming names. Pretty funny ride into work this morning.
Towns/Okafor/Mudiay ain't going to the combine. Since they're locks for top 5 in the draft. It's a growing trend to avoid tanking your draft stock.
It's pretty whack.
I could see Russell leaping over Mudiay is he impresses during his workouts.

TBF they have nothing to gain really. Towns can only drop at this point. Okafor probably wouldn't light the world on fire athletically and Mudiay can still eat off of his HS hype....
Its pretty smart of them not to go really. I expect that they only will workout against chairs and shit too.
By KingGondo Go To PostThese alone should disqualify UA from designing a basketball uniform ever again:Doubt Under Armour has anything to do with that outside of branding.
By Moris Go To PostI get it and I do think it's smart, I just don't like it.I don't envy some of these GMs. Trying to evaluate dudes based on Chinese Basketball Association footage...
By rodeoclown Go To PostMudiay is going to borrow Yi's chair and still won't be able to shoot jumpers over it.

yeah I feel the same way. Should make at least the measurement and testing part mandatory.
By RBK Go To PostNot really surprising.???
By reilo Go To Post???I think TMac had a top 10 jersey with the same design.
Difference is McGrady had a more crowd pleasing approach to the game compared to Harden's milking of the NBA foul system. The jersey itself is terrible already plus Harden's popularity probably peaked in the 2012 WCFs.
That is a interesting point though. Honestly, I didn't think Harden's playstyle was THAT big of a deal (because casual's don't care) but I had completely forgotten about McGrady pushing jerseys like that in Houston.
Harden was phenomenally popular in OKC. Probably more popular than Westbrook at his peak.
YNB is beloved now but he drove some fans (me included) crazy.

Casuals definitely care. Look at how Curry skyrocketed in popularity this season alone.
Just for comparison, Harden was 12th first season in Houston compared to McGrady's 2nd. Different points of their careers and potential stardom, but still a drastic gap.

So who should I be rooting for the Pelicans to sign as a coach?
My preference has been Thibs but I admit I am not caught up on many of the up and coming guys. I like what I have heard about Kenny Atkinson.

By RBK Go To PostI just thought you guys finally realized "he is who he is" so you don't want expend so much energy complaining about a ballhog. He's been legitimately better the last couple of years, and he's only a "ball hog" when he has to be. That was the case most of last season.

Certainly after his MVP year. despite missing 2? 3? seasons.
Jersey design has a lot to do with it, and houstons is turrible. Has been for ages. But they're not the only offenders.

He did great things for Boogie, imagine what he can do for AD.

Malone was actually our lead assistant during Monty's best statistical season with the Pelicans. I am still convinced he is the only reason Monty had his one successful defensive year. You could tell their was a shift when he left for GS(I know we lost CP3 that season but it goes much deeper then that).
I really like the guy and think he got a raw deal in Sacramento.

By psychintellect Go To PostAmazingly boring guy.Yeah, but so is curry really, and curry has been selling well for a couple of years now.
By RBK Go To PostLike that has anything to do with it.It does. Curry is a perfect example. Soft-spoken, humble guy. Married and is the embodiment of the sports underdog story.
You have to make up reasons to not like him and Rose (outside of the whole SAT thing, but who takes SATs anyways lol)
By DY_nasty Go To PostIt does. Curry is a perfect example. Soft-spoken, humble guy. Married and is the embodiment of the sports underdog story.MJ laid down the foundation for Bulls merchandise being forever sellable. Really doesn't matter the name of the jersey either. Curry's been climbing the ranks because the Warriors are relevant for the first time in a long time plus again, he has a generational shooting ability. Fans don't care about you being humble if Kobe has been a perennial top seller for probably 2 decades now.

I think it helps - NBA's marketing shift has been really dramatic.
Kobe was still nice to watch. So is Curry. I run with casuals, they can't stand how Harden plays and fucks with the game.
Curry's a good shooter, but there's been great shooters in the NBA for a long time.
You have to be marketable, good designs, and being relevant helps.
Part of being marketable is also about being able to be sold to families. Parent will buy a Curry / Rose jersey cause they've stayed out of the negative spotlight.
The MJ thing works both ways though. It's a pro and a con. But Rose has always sold well.

Curry stands out in an era that values the 3 point shot than ever before. Doesn't really compare to Reggie's or Ray Allen's time.
By RBK Go To PostExplain Kobe's jersey sales, especially when the rape allegations were fresh.Kobe's marketing fell off a cliff after the rape stuff. People forget he was tied in with McDonalds, Sprite, phone stuff, etc. He was everywhere - but he was also looked at like the 2nd coming of MJ at the time and he was in a massive market on top of nailing every interview/appearance/cameo.
Curry stands out in an era that values the 3 point shot than ever before. Doesn't really compare to Reggie's or Ray Allen's time.
Another thing is that Reggie and Ray weren't crossing the fuck out of people.
This era values it more? I think the 3pt shot has been enormously valued for a long time. Ray Allen certainly played a chunk of his career in an era that did. That whole run'n'gun suns thing was premised on shooters.
Kobe, LBJ, and a few others are marketable in other ways. They became THE best player in the league for periods. You don't sell those guys on family values though. But you can Rose/ Curry.
But as I said at the start, jersey design helps. Dwight, who is a big name and has had his name on that list, isn't now. Because no one wants to look like they're working for McDonalds.
Like I'm also sure that if the Thunder jersey didn't look rec-league, KD would be #2.
