Under the new CBA i don't believe it for a second.
If you're losing money, it's by choice, now.
wonder if he actually signed the clause at the end stating that he is required to pass the ball to Kaminsky no less than 5 times per game or if he just wrote "nah, FTN"

Zach Lowe said in his story about the Suns & LMA that they have a shitty legacy local TV deal that doesn't give them much cash.

The Buss Family is paying everyone with the new revenue sharing nonsense in the CBA and the new TV deal with ESPN and Turner goes to every team too. People side with owners cuz they're racist fucks who don't like seeing young black millionaires.
Owners can lie through their teeth, just like last time, and enough people will believe them and suspend rationality.
On the bright side, as long as dudes like Iman Shumpert are getting more guaranteed money than elite WR in the NFL, the NBPA won.

I kinda feel like if you are somehow managing to lose money in the NBA, you shouldn't be an owner anyway
By obijkenobi Go To PostI kinda feel like if you are somehow managing to lose money in the NBA, you shouldn't be an owner anywayThat's what Jordan once said in a previous lockout. Bet he's saying the opposite now.
By obijkenobi Go To PostI kinda feel like if you are somehow managing to lose money in the NBA, you shouldn't be an owner anywayAfter the last CBA and television deal, losing money in this league seems so absurdly difficult because your team basically has to be paying a ton in the luxury tax. Which is really the fault of the owner in the first place, no? All these owners are already billionaires and in what other businesses that these dudes are in would a poorly run enterprise be rewarded with a profit?
By John Wall“Man, everybody talking about me getting $80 million and you got people getting $85 and $90 million that ain’t been an all-star or anything like that,” Wall said during the Wizards’ summer league win over the Dallas Mavericks at Thomas and Mack Center on Tuesday. “I guess they came in at the right time. The new [TV money] kicked in at the right time. That new [TV money] kicked in and they’re good now. Like, Reggie Jackson gets 5 years, 80. Like, I’m getting the same amount as Reggie Jackson right now.”Shots fired. Wiz-Pistons could be good TV this year.
He's probably going to get less than Brad as well
Honestly pretty much everybody from that free agency class got fucked--both Cousins and Wall are two of the bigger names on that list. Shit like this is like...THE reason people have agents, and a bunch of them didn't do right by their clients. A lot of that is probably on ownership or the league from keeping shit quiet for as long as they possibly could though.
But I've been waiting for something like this to come out from John. It's annoying knowing Brad is gonna get more soon.

I mean it's not like he's lying. People were killing the Wizards for giving him that contract. And Schmurda shouldn't catch feelings over the truth.

Telling your players to take short term deals when max money is on the table is silly. One injury and

By rodeoclown Go To PostI don't know how anybody could seriously believe this. Or care. Owning a basketball team isn't Glen Taylor's primary business and he can write off the losses anyway.
Fuck, I wasn't ready for another lockout.
Saying a team is losing money is like saying I lost money paying my mortgage this month. The team is an investment on top of a possible revenue stream.
By Fenderputty Go To PostSaying a team is losing money is like saying I lost money paying my mortgage this month. The team is an investment on top of a possible revenue stream. And I highly doubt your house has appreciated nearly as much as the average NBA team over the last 10 years.
if the ESPN story is true i don't see how you can fault the clippers in the whole DJ drama
BG, nice guy.
Griffin told Jordan he had made a commitment and needed to live up to it. They'd still be friends, regardless of whether they were teammates.
BG, nice guy.
By obijkenobi Go To PostI kinda feel like if you are somehow managing to lose money in the NBA, you shouldn't be an owner anywayMan, some of these are pure trash and living in a shit market. It would be weird not to see teams lose money, but it's probably going to be less and less teams and for less money each season from now. I think Zach Lowe said it was about 8 teams and each lose less than $10mil per year? That's actually not bad at all.
It's not shocking and I think it's 100% true. I mean, if Fortune 500 companies can be giant money losers for years and years, why would NBA teams be exempt? The NBA doesn't magically print money no matter how good their economics are in 2015.
RT @ZachLowe_NBA: The issue of growing expenses is real, especially for small/mid-market teams with crappy local TV deals.
I mean, yea.
Tom Ziller wrote an article about how Silver's claims that payrolls and infrastructure contributing to a "significant number of teams" losing money is pretty bogus: http://www.sbnation.com/2015/7/15/8969953/set-the-nba-lockout-countdown-clock-again
Basically, the current model of revenue sharing is still imperfect and this should be an issue that team ownership need to figure out between themselves without having to get the players association involved.

The Blazers current TV deal is 10 years, $100 million.
The Lakers? 20 years, $3 billion.
You can't compare that and you can't simply average that out.

LIMOGES, France — On the morning when Frédéric Weis tried to kill himself, he dreamed about owning a beach house. A beach house had been Weis’s dream for a long time. In France, in Spain, in Greece — wherever his career as a 7-foot-2 professional basketball player took him. He liked the sand, he liked the surf. A beach house was a good dream.
But on that day, in January 2008, the dream did not make him smile. Weis got into his car in Bilbao, Spain, around 10 a.m. and began the drive here, to this small city in west-central France best known for its production of fine china. He was on his way to see his wife and son. About 90 minutes into the drive, Weis suddenly pulled over at a rest area near Biarritz, a French town not far from the border.
Weis thought about all this for a while. Then he thought about the beach house. Then he thought about his son, Enzo. Then he reached over, took out the box of sleeping pills he had brought with him and swallowed every single one.
Weis could have signed the standard first-round draft pick contract with the Knicks — which would have required he stay with them — but he declined, choosing instead to play another year in France. That decision, which he later admitted regretting, was almost surely influenced by Rose, the agent, who also owned a piece of Weis’s French team; Rose subsequently went to prison on charges related to financial impropriety and conflicts of interest.

While the mention being drafted by the knicks and being dunked on by vince in the article as being somewhat traumatic for weis. The elephant in the room is that his extremely autistic son being born is what initially drove him to depression and that eventual suicide attempt.
I sometimes wonder if Deron's son being autistic had anything to do with his mindfuckedness. I would respect him more if that were the case.
In radio interview, Vlade Divac said they did go after Wesley Matthews but not Monta Ellis. Said outside of Wes and Bargs, they got the guys they actually went after. Not sure if that includes Danny Green or not. Seems Danny had already decided to stay with Spurs, considering the huge discount he took.
So the Bargs talk was serious. Bargs decided to stay in NY area. Vlade said he's still looking for a stretch 4.

I love Vlade for being one of our most aggressive FO pursuers of FAs in this franchise's history as illustrated by this timeline of Kings FA signings since 1985:
but he and Vivek really do need to hire a real GM with knowledge of how contracts and balanced trading works so he doesn't get fleeced to fucking hell like what happened with Hinkie.

I hope he's actually learning now after getting his feet wet and proceeding to almost drown.
Free agency is usually a foolish game anyways.
Even the Spurs, who played things perfectly with a great team, a great situation going forward, and max money almost got LMA swiped by the fucking Suns because reasons.
