By D'Moris Russell Go To PostThe Union chimed in on DJ/Mavs dramaI wonder if the NBAPA would say the same thing if it had been the Mavs changing their mind at the last minute, leaving a player to hang dry without options.
TL;DR
He's a punk, but that isn't illegal. Maybe the league will change how the moratorium works.
We're matching. All of this talk is silly. Also, I think it's foolish to assume you can get another star to come play in OKC just because we have KD. The Mavs assumed big FAs would beat down their door to play with Dirk, and that didn't happen.
At that point you risk missing out on FAs and losing KD too. Maxing Kanter is probably worth the risk, because signing him to a huge contract and hoping he improves on D is better than losing him for nothing.
In 2019 this contract will look somewhat like David Lee's contract looks like now.

The Spurs don't get LMA if Duncan and Manu retire and Parker was offloaded for cash and the team mostly stunk.
Superstars haven't bolted to LA or NY or Bos or Chi or anywhere for a long time without the team already being good. KG wanted no part of Boston until Ray went via trade.
OKC has just as much a chance to grab a star if KD re-upped there as anyone else, IMO. Cities don't matter much, anymore.
By Colonel Nasty Go To PostKanter Will make more money then James Harden for the next three seasons
really what else needs to be said than this?
By Mamba Go To PostIf anything, the FA has proved that good players will come if you're already a good team.I agree that market doesn't matter as much as it used to, but hinging your hopes on free agency is a fool's errand for the most part. Spurs were still gonna contend without LMA as long as everyone came back, and they even had to fight off Phoenix (PHOENIX!) for his services toward the end.

Unless KD and YNB have told Presti they're re-signing for the long haul, you can't risk free agency.

I'm not saying they should hinge everything on free agency but we're talking about Kanter. A guy whose defense was horrific and OKC was worse with him on the floor.
Presti has to ask himself if the team is better off with max Kanter next season and no cap space or without him and cap space. Personally, I think it's the latter because I'm completely convinced Kanter is anything but the newest version of David Lee.
By D'Moris Russell Go To PostNot really. We're still gonna contend (third-best odds to chip next season at last check).
OKC mad fucked.
Plus Kanter's contract might force us to trade Waiters. Silver lining.
Doc has always been an asshole. But he's insanely nice to the media so he gets a pass.
He's dead wrong. When Jordan decided to change his mind, he had to tell Cuban. Not telling him was more than just a lack of respect. It messed with all their plans. In fact, how can we be certain it wasn't a ploy from the get go to fuck over the Mavs? There needs to be a rule change, whether it's getting rid of the moratorium or requiring players/agents inform teams of change of mind right away. This shit was unethical.

Good signing.
No surprise when Ballmer is the owner. Think about all the competitions they have destroyed through dirty tricks over the years.

I love how the new narrative among Clipper loonies is that Fegan somehow tricked the 26-year-old baby into signing with a different team.

The Garnett contract really doesn't matter. I'd be surprised if he played in 2016-2017 and even if he does, it's not as though that deal comes with some huge opportunity cost. They're not going to miss out on playing some prospect minutes because Garnett is hanging around and playing 20 minutes a night. (And really, having him and Bjelica split time at the power forward spot is for the best when the alternative is Payne or Bennett.) It doesn't keep them having cap space next summer, either, and they shouldn't really be looking to sign free agents then anyway.
Ultimately, it's a minor legacy contract and the real value is having him around teaching Towns.

Doc not telling the Mavs about DJ was probably more about wanting to avoid them sending out more heavy recruiting than it was about actively screwing over the Mavs. It's underhanded either way, but it's not a big conspiracy.

You need to actually develop your talent.

Good Q and A. DJ did Parsons dirty
You felt you had a foundation in place with a dominant center you’d play with the rest of your career …
Parsons: “Let me cut you off there. Those were his words. Those were DeAndre Jordan’s words: ‘We’re going to retire together. Next place I go to, I’m going to retire in that city.’ So of course I thought that, because those were his words, not mine.”

Good Q and A. DJ did Parsons dirty
Is there anything the Mavs or you should have done differently during this process?a very thorough interview from him
Parsons: “No chance. We did everything we can. We put it all out in front of him. There is nothing more that we could have physically, emotionally possibly done to make him feel more comfortable and to make him stay and sign with Dallas. I guess maybe I could have stayed with him in L.A. or Houston and held his hand throughout the entire process, but I didn’t think that ever I would have to do something like that.”
Was this a bad gamble for the Mavs or a risk worth taking given the potential reward?
Parsons: “This was a risk that we were willing to take, and I think it was worth taking. It’s not our fault. We did everything that we could. We had a verbal commitment from a grown-ass man. Like, there’s nothing else that we could have done. There’s nothing else that we could have said.
just makes me feel even more terrible about the Mavs situation tho
How long did he shut down communication with you on Wednesday? What was running through your mind during that time?
Parsons: “Yeah, he was very randomly responding to me, but he was not responding to Mark at all, which in my eyes is very unprofessional. An owner that bent over backwards, did whatever you said throughout this process and was giving you a chance to be great, I don’t know how you shut him out and close the door on him when he’s in your city and just wanting to meet with you and get a face-to-face with you like you said that you were going to and just completely ignoring you, I don’t know how he did that.
“The kind of guy that he is, the kind of guy I thought he is, would never do something like that. That’s tough for me to swallow, just from the fact that I know how excited Mark was. I know how invested Mark has been throughout this whole process. That’s what I don’t get.
“Be a professional. Pick up the phone. If you’re not going to meet with him, pick up the phone and tell the guy that you’re committed to what you’re feeling, what you’re going through and maybe he can talk it out and help you. But do not ignore the guy. Do not make him sit there and sweat it out. That’s just very unprofessional. I can’t get over that part.”

DAJ really does deserve every bit of negative PR that comes his way over this.

What Deandre did was fucked up, but that interview is hilarious. Parsons has become quite the little lapdog.
"I mean, I shoveled as much shit into him as Mark told me too. What else could I do?"
Every day. This is what I do. I recruited him extremely hard, but it wasn’t hard. Everything I told him was true – him being an MVP candidate, him being a perennial All-Star, him being the best center in the NBA.

I don't give a shit how well he passes and scores. He may contribute 35 a night but will give up 45 on the other end.
By giririsss Go To PostI also think Garnett would retire if the Wolves NEEDED his cap space. It's not like he can't play anymore. Those few games he played for us last year show he still has some game, even if it's just quarterbacking the defense, hitting midrange jumpers and telling everyone where to go. There's real value in his 20 minutes a game for a team that's largely playing guys on rookie contracts.
It's a good/weird contract though. i assume he's mainly there for his off court presence now, They could have just made him the most over paid assistant…
Should Garnett decide to ride again next summer, I just don't think the lost cap space will matter that much. Everyone will have max cap space and frankly I don't think the Wolves should be trying to add a high priced player (in a bad free agent class) to this group. They may have to extend Muhammad if he plays well again next year and that's probably more important.
By Chandler ParsonsWe had a verbal commitment from a grown-ass man. Like, there’s nothing else that we could have done. There’s nothing else that we could have said.Pretty much says it all.
I mean, I agree the KG contract will do nothing to the team in term's of building. And frankly, I couldn't care less how a billionaire spends his money. But he's essentially lighting his money on fire. Whatever.
