By diehard Go To PostI like how every rumor involves the Lakers
The media seriously considered Paul George and Jimmy Butler somehow getting to the Lakers, so it's not surprising they'll jump through a few hoops to imagine Cousins and co. ending up in LA.
I like how Stein always considers Dallas a front runner for free agents. Aldridge was never going there.
Why do the deal now? Give boogie and Karl some run. See if Okafor, Randle are even good. You think the Lakers in February are gonna say no then?

If he's writing about it, they're probably working on something.

But I don't necessarily take it as an indicate of much else.

Boogie probably ain't going anywhere until at least mid season and LMA would be smart to sign in SA or even Portland instead of LA, but tonight has been fun and tomorrow will be more so
But did you know George and Randle are good friends IRL?

By reilo Go To PostTim, Manu, and Danny all have big capholds, but otherwise they are under the cap by more than plenty.
Spurs have $35 million committed next year. But really, it's $42 million cuz Kawhi's cap hold until he signs his max.
That's for 5 players. 7 roster cap holds is another $3.5-$4 million or so. $46 million let's say.
At $67 million cap, that leaves only $21 million in cap room IF they let Duncan/Manu/Belli/Green all walk.
If they sign any combo of that 4 for $10 million total, there's no room to sign LMA for a max or close to it.
I've said this earlier. The Spurs CAN sign LMA to a max or near max. But it will take a lot of work to get done and probably requires Green leaving and Manu retiring and Duncan taking another huge pay cut...or retiring.
edit: Last edit, this also requires Kawhi not signing a deal with anyone and not demanding the Spurs sign him ASAP. Not saying he would, but everyone didn't see Parsons going to mavs, either. And with the new cap coming, if someone gives Kawhi a Parsons deal, he might just sign it. It's better to sign a 3 year max than a 5 year max, quite honestly.
Also, lol @ Kings fans trying to laugh at Laker fans for the supposed "offers."
Us Laker fans are totally cool keeping our picks. This is a win-win scenario. Either Mitch fleeces Sacramento for Boogie or we they stay the course and take their draft picks. Ever since they got the #2 pick instead of having no pick, it's all gravy this draft period.
We find this all amusing and fun. Kings organization is a mess regardless if the Lakers get Boogie or not.

If they can convince Manu to take the minimum and Duncan to take the room exception, then the road to that cap space is very easy. Moving Splitter for a pick will also suffice.
According to the Jazz's best local reporter, the Jazz like Myles Turner and Trey Lyles, don't like Frank, Cam Payne, or Looney, don't like Bobby Portis enough to pick him 12th, and may try to trade the pick for Olynyk or Patrick Patterson if all the guys they like are gone.
By thekad Go To PostIf they can convince Manu to take the minimum and Duncan to take the room exception, then the road to that cap space is very easy. Moving Splitter for a pick will also suffice.Duncan taking a room exception? That seems hilarious. Especially with the financial trouble that just came out this past week with him.
Dumping Splitter is another option, of course. That frees up $8.5 million if they take nothing back. But until that type of deal comes about, not going to really think about it.
I'll say it again...the Spurs can make it happen. It's just going to take a lot of work. It's not like they just automatically have the cap space or just have to dump some $2 million player to get the room. There are a lot of variables at play. If Duncan wants $8 million and Kawhi signs a 3 year max ala Parsons with someone else, it's gone.

I have no idea.
1. Tony Parker: $13.44 million
2. Danny Green cap hold: $7.65 million
3. Kawhi Leonard cap hold: $7.63 million
4. Boris Diaw: $7.50 million
5. Patty Mills: $3.20 million

I like him as a possible late sleeper cause he couldn't showcase due to being buried behind WCS and Towns but now his stock is rising almost because people don't want to pass on his mystery potential.

Uh, no. If Kawhi signs an offer sheet, it doesn't go on the Spurs cap until 3 days after the moratorium. They'll have plenty of time to create the cap space and sign LMA, just as the Rockets did last year until Bosh decided to go back to Miami.
Dumping Splitter is easy. Your Lakers took on the $16 million Jeremy Lin was owed for a late first. A team in need of a center would probably give an asset for Splitter. They can definitely dump him for free.
You know, in that report, Duncan said that money he lost will not affect his life at all. He doesn't seem the type to quibble over money to bring a star player for a last run.

By thekad Go To Post1. Tony Parker: $13.44 millionCap holds for players don't take over for roster cap holds by my understanding, so there's 2 more roster holds you're missing. Over Almost $4 million total.

3. Kawhi Leonard cap hold: $7.63 million
4. Boris Diaw: $7.50 million

Also, Duncan's cap hold counts until he signs a contract. And according to your analysis, $22 million is enough for LMA and Duncan. LMA's max $19 million. That leaves less than $3 million for Duncan.
So if they dump Splitter for nothing, Kawhi stays patient, Green and Duncan agree to split $10 million, and Manu agrees to the room expection it can get done. Or they can let Green walk to open up space for Duncan.
If any one of those things don't go their way, it becomes almost impossible.
So for the 3rd time...yes they can do it but it won't be easy. Lot of variables in play.
By thekad Go To PostUh, no. If Kawhi signs an offer sheet, it doesn't go on the Spurs cap until 3 days after the moratorium. Duncan saying that is normal. What else he gonna say? I need the money! Plus he said that in relation to retiring.
I don't even know why you're arguing, here. I've not said it won't happen or it is impossible. I said it will take work. Your own posts basically admit that.
For the fourth time. The Spurs can definitely pull it off. It won't take some miracle. But it will take work. Why are you debating this?
I don't even want LMA on the Lakers at his age...

Okay, pulling you off the ledge. :)
"I have no promises yet. I just don't have anything. Wish I did," Towns told Yahoo Sports on Wednesday. "I would have a lot of stress taken off my back. The biggest stress is this is the draft. This isn't college no more. You can't get traded in college.
"All these trade rumors happening. Smoke screens are very heavy right now and the air is really foggy."
Okay, pulling you off the ledge. :)
The Minnesota Timberwolves, who own the No. 1 pick, don't plan on making their decision official until they notify the league during the draft, a source told Yahoo Sports. While the T'wolves are keeping their decision close to vest, another source said that Minnesota president and coach Flip Saunders adores Towns and it would be stunning if he wasn't the top pick.
"If I'm picked by the Minnesota Timberwolves it would be an honor and a privilege," said Towns, who averaged 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in 21.1 minutes per game for Kentucky.
Towns would fill a void at power forward for the T'wolves, who are building a talented, young core that includes 2015 NBA Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins, Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine, Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng. Minnesota's 26-year history has included two upper-echelon power forwards in Kevin Garnett and Kevin Love.
Towns, 19, would love the challenge of being the next great T'wolves power forward. Garnett, 39, is under contract next season, but it's uncertain if he will continue playing.
"The craziest thing about those two power forwards, I think you can see some resemblance of me in both of them," Towns said. "They've shown how effective they were in Minnesota. I'm trying to make my own stamp."
FWIW, I don't think Cousins gets traded tomorrow (and he really shouldn't be at all). I'm pretty sure Towns goes number 1. I think the Lakers take Okafor but they might take Russell. I'll be happy either way. This whole draft and free agency is going to be fun as a laker fan compared to previous years.
I'm happy with almost any outcome compared to last offseason.
