I don't like Medvedeva's routines this year. In fact, I think I might actually hate her short program.
I don't know if it's lingering effects of the injury, if it's the switch from Eteri to Orser, if it's a psychological implosion from the olympic silver, or if it's something else, but nothing about her skating works like it once did. The jumps aren't graceful, the transitions are nonexistent, the performance is strained and lackluster, the music is ill-fitting, and overall it's just mediocre and forgettable.
I know it's still relatively early in the season, but I don't see how she recovers. She couldn't even manage to top Rika in the short program when the latter received zero points for her biggest element. I doubt she'll qualify for the grand prix final, and that'll only compound her apparent confidence issues.
