By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostBeing in MD when that movie released was one of those, "you had to be there" experiences. I remember people talking about that forest on the news. Some people were wondering if it was real or not. You had the rumors of what all went down. That happened right before the explosion of the internet. Fun times.
Yeah, we were in middle of highschool went it came out.
People who saw it touted it as the realest thing ever and scared me into not watching it for 2 years.
I got so worked as a kid.

Pretty sure that I had some friends that wanted to investigate. Hit em with that
I was too shook. lol
The rumors were true, Adam Wingard´s The Woods is actually Blair Witch.
Impressions from Comic Con are great. Should be one hell of a ride.

It is fucking amazing and terrifying.
We were all sitting down in our seats, staring at the poster projected on a movie screen.
Then there was a glitch.
And suddenly the name of the movie was something else.
Wingard is about the only reason I'm in. I need to give TBW a rewatch, but I wasn't overly thrilled with it. The trailer is dope.
I enjoyed this movie a lot, but I needed subtitles, cause damn. lol
By Lupercal Go To PostStill decent, hope you haven't been spoiled though.
Another note, just started seeing The Witch, holy fuck at these dialogue lines.
Can't understand 90% of what they're saying.

Anybody watching Stranger Things? It's out on Netflix. It's like the lovechild of the Poltergeist, E.T. and that era of Sci-fi and horror. It feels organic to the times it's representing and not a flawed replication. I'm not to far in, but I'm loving what I've seen so far.

I keep coming back to this thread for my horror movies fix, what a goldmine 🍻
Pretty sure that I had no idea that a remake of À l'intérieur (Inside) was being made. I didn't mind the Martyrs remake, but I am curious as to how this translates here. There is no thought provoking plot to speak of in Inside (though it's subject matter is adult af). It's a straight up brutal and in your face oppressive home invasion film. It's one of my favorites in that sub-genre...even with it's problems (mainly how the police function as a plot device...and not actual police). Hope it's good. Seems to be making film circuit rounds later this year.
Don't Breath is a bit of a thriller/horror hybrid that rests in the the home invasion sub-genre. It's premise is simple: a bunch of douche-bag robbers decide to run into some guy's house, because he's supposedly received a six figure settlement from some people over an accident. The guy (Stephen Lang) turns out to be a blind military vet, with a dog that two steps removed from Kujo, so they decided that he's the world's easiest mark. They "plan" their heist and enter the house, and then the obvious thing happens.
The first act of this movie is one of the strongest that I've seen in these particular genres. It's manipulative in how it wants you to view it's characters, including the house (it feels like it belongs in Silent Hill, but it's a plain house) and the dog (the world's best guard dog EVER). The atmosphere has an other-worldly feel to it and an air of the supernatural. The camera work is stunning and it's use of sound and light makes you bounce between being voyeuristic and feeling as if you're in the scene itself. The blind guy is animalistic in nature. He twitches at the sound of a pen dropping or when his sense of smells draws him to a particular location. He's more T-800 than Voorhees, but at times it feels like they broke into the house of someone whom is both. It's tense throughout, but turns terrifying whenever they make a fuck-up.
What this movie does not do is hand-wave it's violence. It is scary as fuck whenever a trigger is pulled in this film, because it treats guns as they should be. No cutaways, no final words, and no good-byes. If you caught even a stray, there was a large chance you were dead, no ifs and or buts about it.
The movie remains consistent through-out the majority it's run time and doesn't really feel padded. The movie itself doesn't rely on jump-scares and when they do happen they feel earned...most of the times.
My problem with the film is that it kind of fails at making me feel empathetic to Jane Levy's character. It doesn't feel as though it shows you, but tells you why you should root for her, in a quick scene in the beginning. It's done on purpose, for certain, but I really didn't give a shit about any of the "protagonists" in the film, until the tail end of the first act/beginning of the second. Even then, it was flimsy at best and due to something that didn't have anything to do with them. Still, I ended up liking her character the most, when everything was said and done.
Some people aren't going to like the ending...at all. It's one of those endings where I can wake up the next day and think it's total ass, even though I'm fine with it now. It feels borderline silly as hell, but reserved just enough for me not to call 100 percent bullshit.
There is some crazy shit that happens in this movie, by the way. It's mean spirited as fuck in parts. The black-out scene, when the basement is flooded in total darkness was dope af (it's in the trailer), but there is some shit that happens in the third act that will stick with you.
All in all, it's worth the watch. I'd see it in theaters. I had a fun time in mine. There was the usual "oh my goodness, you're so stupid" chatter, but whenever the shots rang out, or the blind guy was active, you couldn't hear the crunch of popcorn.
Also, it gets brownie points for being one of the few films where the "antagonist" was well within his rights to kill off the "protagonists". It's such a small detail, but helps out a ton with it's building of atmosphere.
Anyone else thinking about doing the October Horror Marathon? I´m starting to stack up on horror movies for October and I´m open to suggestions. Blair Witch will be out in Portugal in the last week of October so I´m probably going to do a Blair Witch retrospective.
This video actually has made me excited to watch Book Of Shadows again with a fresh perspective.

I'll probably attempt to again. I need to track down some old films that I haven't seen, as well as foreign ones.
Do you all want a new topic for that, or to keep the 31 Day challenge in this thread?
That´s a good question.
My list of now consists of the 10 Halloween movies, the 3 Blair Witches, Southbound, The Shallows, Rob Zombie´s 31 and I´m looking for a few bizarre and bad horror films. I´m actually sad Hotel Inferno 2 isn´t out already, I was looking forward to writing another angry review. They are crowdfunding it right now, I´m actually tempted to put a bit of money on it.

Train to Busan m8, best horror 2016.
Dead Snow 2 for a bad/bizarre one ?
Didn´t know there was already a release of Train To Busan, that´s definitely going on the list.
Not really interested in the Dead Snow movies, I´m looking for some weird 70´s and 80´s horror movies in the vain of God Told Me To.

There's ahum a 'release' that's subbed yes.
Finally saw Blair Witch last night, still not sure how I feel about it. It many things right but it also did some wrong.
It was creepy for the most part and the final act was quite good. I really didn't like that they showed the Witch, it was one of the best things about the original and whatever we come up with in our minds is always more frighting that whatever goes on the screen. The time/reality distortion aspect was original and works well. I felt the deaths had very little tension, especially Peter, as they had to occur earlier in the movie due to a bigger cast in this one in comparison with the first one.
I liked it but it definitely has some big flaws.

I'm in the same boat. I like the understated details that mainly showed up in the final act. The space time fuckery was neat and worked really well. The group of friends felt legitimate, but the deaths didn't really hit me as hard as I thought they would have...which is a step up from the og, because I'm honestly not attached to that version at all.
Question about the movie. Is the idea that the Witch took the tape from the film and dropped it off in the past, so that the brother would find it? Also, is his sister the new witch?
I enjoyed The Autopsy of Jane Doe a hell of a lot. It does a fair amount with keeping familiarity (and to keep it 100, it's treads familiar ground the minute the supernatural fuckery kicks into high gear) from dragging down its cool premise. The setup is what works for me. The further the two leads get into working through the autopsy of the Jane Doe, the more fucked their situation becomes. It feels like a mystery from an Era long past, and that's what I enjoyed the most.

I'm working on a new thread for the new year. Is there anything that anyone would like to see added? Also, does anyone have any podcasts that they listen too, that would be cool for this?

Just watched The Void.
It was not bad. Decent enough Cthulu-esque horror, although it wasn't super scary. More unsettling and unpleasant body horror reminiscent of The Thing. Decent gore and nice use of practical effects.
Didn't think the acting performances were anything to write home about mind you and as such I never really felt the tension that I should probably have felt.
Reminded me a little bit of Hellraiser and Prince of Darkness too.
