I love how they get to beta test on public roads in spite of being dangerous to other drivers and especially pedestrians.
Do they not have proper shielding? Also you are supposed to turn them into low power mode when you get space weather forecast for a heavy geostorm. Seems a strange oversight.
Edit: Ahh figured it out low earth orbit with additional density of the atmosphere from the storm is causing them to de-orbit. Seems just the cost of doing business.

By torreznos Go To PostSpaceX is a terrible business plan?Nah governments around the world are following their Starlink model for internet in remote places. it's only 40 satellites so just the cost of doing business. It was unfortunate but these satellites deorbit in 5 years anyways. Y'all can hate Elon but this is a great product with great engineers working on it that will only get better with time.

Y'all can hate Elon but this is a great product that will only get better.Nah the hate on Elon is quite justified but if you want to stan someone who likes to pollute the low earth orbit that's fine by me. It's just very unfortunate that its operation endangers ESA satellites and the Chinese Space station and, according to astronomers, causes light pollution.
All in all, this business model could be relocated back down to earth.
It doesn't pollute at all as being in low earth orbit means they will de-orbit. It doesn't endanger shit you are spouting nonsense. The light pollution for ground based telescopes is minimal as you just have to compensate for it. Yea it's an inconvenience but the benefits far outweigh the negatives. This brings most of the world into the 21st century and like I said it's something that alot of countries are working on their own including the EU. This adds redundancy to ground based infrastructure as well. It's a great idea but people's hate for Elon is clouding judgment for a good product.
Nobody on this forum likes Elon but this hate for the business that he founded is weak as fuck.

You'd be hard-pressed to find any space endeavor that is ahead of the curve there....
As a whole, tackling that type of thing is really more of an ongoing discussion than high priority anywhere.
Edit: ^yeah, elon's a fuckhead but this really aint a reason why

From what I've seen Starlink has rave reviews in parts of rural Canada as the best and most viable source of internet infrastructure that easily beats the big telecomm conglomerates. I hate to use this term but it really is disrupting the internet cartels these underserved areas are under the thumb of.
Buuuttt DY and Disso it should be governments that takes on these endeavours not some pompous cunt like Elon!!!
*waits on governments to do anything* 😒
^This sort of mentality does nothing but morally grandstand presenting improbable solutions to a problem that is actively being solved. You can dislike Elon and that's understandably but this ain't the one m8.

The government shouldn't wait to put regulations in place for these endeavors especially stuff like self-driving vehicles that has the potential (and actually has!!) hurt and kill people.
Most governments can't even regulate roads or their own physical workplaces lol.... This problem plainly isn't the problem folks are trying to make it out to be. Low orbit stuff going through a lifecycle of throwing itself in the bushes is not the same dramatic, life threatening shit that's rocking around other satellites.
Countries will step in regulating and further enabling programs after the fact for a new initiative like always. Like lets be real - airports didn't even start taking drone dangers seriously until how many decades passed?
Considering the freedom, I'm honestly shocked at the lack of legit mad scientist shit going on.

i mean that's cool. elon sucks. self driving vehicles suck ass too and govs of all levels may as well be openly complicit in keeping that carnival act alive.
spacex.... you shouldn't have to exaggerate or embellish at all to highlight something dangerous when it comes to putting shit in space and keeping it there.

Yes, delivering internet to isolated communities/people is great
Yes, self driving cars are great.
Yes, alternatives to ICEs are great.
Yes, car based metro systems which are deathtraps? I don't care.
Yes, he made flamethrowers for the memes and smoked a joint on JRE hahah?
HOWEVER, it all being a frontier the execution is not perfect, and he should be held accountable for it.

say what you mean wtf im confused now
these satellites were coming down regardless. paying to put more up is, and i may be assuming here, very likely part of the plan

Companies like SpaceX are aiming to put thousands of satellites in LEO. As a whole it is going to lead to overcrowding which will eventually lead to collisions. It's quite simply a not so good idea and legislation is once again woefully behind corporations. Can't wait for the "if only we had known better" in fifty years from now.
Elon is the face of this whole shebang and he is a dick.
that's taking a lot of things, dumbing them all down in equal measure, and running with it into the wind man
i think you're aware too so like.... ok lol.

But as so far it's been like *gestures widely at array of critique at Elon Musk* vs. "that's not true and you're just a Musk hater" on a message board. I'll just be sat here watching his companies crash cars/satellites into objects/people in the name of scientific progress and profit.
The Starlink satellites always de-orbit as they are very low earth orbit (VLEO). This has been proved by this most recent issue of the geostorm. When they de-orbit they will burn up in the atmosphere. Maybe I'm ignorant but I just don't see the problem 🤷🏾♂️

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California sued Tesla on Wednesday over allegations of discrimination and harassment of Black employees at its San Francisco Bay area factory.yoikes
The suit, filed in Alameda County Superior Court, was sparked by hundreds of worker complaints, said Kevin Kish, head of the state's Department of Fair Employment and Housing.
The department, which enforces state civil rights laws, “found evidence that Tesla’s Fremont factory is a racially segregated workplace where Black workers are subjected to racial slurs and discriminated against in job assignments, discipline, pay, and promotion creating a hostile work environment,” Kish said in a statement reported by the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.

And yes all Musk's ventures are relevant because of the cult of Musk.

Virgin Hyperloop has laid off almost half its staff as the company switches its focus from transporting passengers to shifting freight. Cuts totaling 111 jobs were confirmed by Virgin Hyperloop to The Financial Times, which spoke to former employees at the company. They described the scale of the redundancies as “definitely not expected.”lol
The Securities and Exchange Commission is looking into whether recent stock sales by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his brother Kimbal Musk potentially violated insider trading rules, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The investigation began late last year after Musk and his brother sold $108 million worth of Tesla shares, according to the Journal. That sale happened the day before Elon Musk polled his Twitter followers about whether he should sell 10 percent of his stake in the company — and promised to abide by the poll’s results.
No wonder he started waging a war with the SEC again
