http://football-italia.net/64249/seventh-not-good-enough-milan
It appears that seventh-place will not grant Milan entry to the Europa League, even if an Italian team wins the competition.
The joint-CEO [Galliani] has repeatedly said that seventh place in Serie A would allow the Rossoneri to enter the Europa League if Napoli or Fiorentina win the competition, but UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino has contradicted this.
As reported by calciomercato.com, Italy is entitled to six European places under its current coefficient ranking.
This is made up of two automatic Champions League places, one Champions League qualifying round place and three Europa League slots.
At the moment fourth and fifth in Serie A qualify for the latter competition, as well as the Coppa Italia winners, with sixth also qualifying if the cup winners are already in Europe.
The website reports that Infantino has stated that there is no provision for Italy being awarded another European place, whatever happens in the Europa League.
The winners of the competition would be granted automatic entry to the Champions League group stages, giving Italy four representatives in that tournament.
However, Serie A would still only be entitled to six European places, meaning that only two clubs would qualify for the Europa League - the fifth-placed team and the Coppa Italia winners, with sixth qualifying if the Coppa winners are in Europe.
Calciomercato states that this means there is no circumstance where seventh place would grant entry to the Europa League.

By VivalabanterBy KidjrHow much do you reckon bale would cost? I think they're better/cheaper alternatives.
Near enough what they paid for him.
Cheaper, for sure. Better? Who you thinking of?
Sorry I didnt mean better as in ability, I meant as in, cost to effect ratio.
Unless you're going to play a system that gives him a free role or change your formation, I think his affect could be somewhat diminished.
I mean not that money is a factor for Utd, I just think you can better spend it elsewhere.

Who cares about cost to effect ratio when you're Man Utd? If you can convince a player to come, you can afford them. Cost to effect ratio is for the paupers (and now for Man City too!)

I'm going STR. My favorite weapon that I used was Ludwig Heaven Sword (dunno if its the same name in the English version). Plus the starting STR weapon is spin2win.
Feel like LvG put Falcao on for ball-retention, lol.

Biggest difference between this season and last for United. Moyes' record against the other top teams was diabolical (4 points against the top 6 I think?).

I would be if I hadn't watched all those games. United have been excellent in most of them. Add in Spurs and Southampton though and Liverpool climb that table quick.
By OddMorselI would be if I hadn't watched all those games. United have been excellent in most of them. Add in Spurs and Southampton though and Liverpool climb that table quick. Its less the shock of United being top though I would have assumed Chelsea, than of City, Pool and Arse being so poor. United could conceivably hit 16 points by the end of the season with Arsenal and City to go to OT, Can't see more than a point at Chelsea though.
I remember the Chelsea and City games well and thought we played very strongly in those, but not as well as we have in the last 2.

Pressing our CBs is patently the crucial bit. We conceded against Liverpool when we basically carried the ball into traffic and got (justifiably) fucked. The lack of hassle and niggle on our movement of the ball in our half was crazy. Admittedly, you press - and the ball goes back to Dave and he punts it over your head to Fellaini. I can see how that deters the expending of a huge amount of energy. But you've just got to stick someone there to make Fellaini's life as difficult as possible, and do it anyway.

Managers seem to be struggling on coping with Fellaini overloading that side with Blind supporting.
I looked at Man U closely this weekend and did some analysis (had paper and pen and everything jotted down a few notes etc.)
Fellaini plays with the imagination of a brain dead elephant, I've watched him closely past two games, 8 out of 10 times he will choose the very easy ball, (which is usually Blind square, or straight back to CB), my point is, Fellaini in between the your two banks of four will rarely hurt you.
If I was a manager I'd pay him very little attention on the first ball, however make it my imprative that the second ball options are cut off or won. If he wants to flick on, let him flick on but be tracking those runners around him as those are the guys who are going to hurt you. Even it means allowing him to bring the ball down under control, fine allow him to do that but the second he does, swarm him like a pack of hives. Fellaini will loose the ball or it'll go straight back to the center backs.
Allow yourself to loose the first battle with him to win the war, contesting that first ball just pulls a player out of position to make little to no impact (as fellaini wins something like 81% of his duels in the air) leaving space for others to run into space that you've vacated.
I really feel like I should be a football manager sometimes

I can pull out Gifs of Shola Ameobi scoring screamers. I never said he was bad player, far from it, when played to his strengths he's actually good (as we're seeing no) but thats what my whole point was about, negating his strengths and how you do it. I wasnt trying to make him sound or look shit. I'm talking from a perspective of general play and what he consistently does, if you watch man u often you'll see he's either a) not a natural forward thinking passer (as in it isnt hi first thought how can I move those ball into a more dangerous position) or b) he doesn't trust his ability to make certain passes. He will pretty much most of the time go for the safest option
Fellaini isnt great under pressure with ball to feet ( or even without pressure imo) so let him have the ball and deal with the space and people who will hurt you.

Same problem teams have been having with Akinfenwa all season. He's going to win the vast majority of the balls to him, so all contesting it does is draw one or two players out of position.

Uncontested is alot stronger than what I was going for, allow him to bring the ball down but as soon as it's down you cut off all his options. Your more likely to win the ball back off Fallaini when its at his feet than in the air, I really think he doesnt pass the ball quickly enough or well enough to really hurt you. By maybe giving him 5/10 yards of space you can hold position and not get caught out by being too tight to him and leaving acres in behind.
However you do it, the concentrated efforts should be on the 2nd ball and shutting off his options.
