By Laboured Go To PostYep, samesies. I'd give away Jones and Smalling on a free on principle. They're the totems of accepted mediocrity within the club.I really don't know what successive United managers see in either of them. Smalling's had one good season in all the years he's been here.
Problem with moving Rojo is that he's on £160k per week and is contracted up to 2021. Not many clubs would shell out that much. Lack of forwarf planning on United's part again.
Edit: Wolves for £25m? Praise Mendes.

Wolves are paying £25 mill for him apparently. Decent offset. #NetSpend
By Laboured Go To PostVery good for our Net Spend.

We'll need it I think. Expect Leicester to demand at least £60m.
Considering how much shit was thrown our way for paying £75m to buy Van Dijk, who is an absolute monster of a CB - this huge bid for Harry fucking Maguire is jokes.

Young - Maguire - Smalling - Shaw

I definitely like Maguire but I feel he will be scapegoated for a disappointing summer of business ala Fellaini; irrespective of whether you think that vitriol was deserved, it would be a shame to happen again.

He might actually be good. you know. I've liked the look of him for the past two seasons and he's gotten better with each culminating in a good WC. People seem to think it's hilarious that we're knee jerking on him but not every player who plays well at the WC is Salif Diao. We bought Rio and Rooney off the back of good WCs and people declared them to be overpriced too. Final point - no one is overpriced for us cus we're phenomenally rich too. Doesn't really represent any sort of a risk.
By Cleff Go To PostThat's just a guess for what would get Leicester to the table.Leicester have no reason to sell and he has four years on his contract. And he had a great World Cup. If Leicester negotiate at any less than £70m they’re idiots.

But you will end up paying what we did for Van Dijk - which caused mass hysteria - and Maguire isn’t anywhere near Van Dijk’s overall level.
Not a criticism of the transfer. I’d love Maguire at Liverpool as a backup to Lovren and Van Dijk, but it’s more an example of the transfer window once again going nuts. Same with Alisson, next window someone is paying £80m for Nick Pope.
We should play rank the top 10 centre halfs in the Premier League
Don’t chat shit. He’s decent. He would be straight into your team as well.
By Pele.gif Go To PostMaguire is average

Top bantering of the United boys Arnie
Like rain under orange lamps
Lovren is quick and can pass. For what a CB needs to be playing a high line and dominating possession that’s a lot of what you need.
Has an absolute clanger in him though.
Another reason why Alderweireld is a much better signing for United. He’s a top five Premier League CB.

By Pele.gif Go To PostMaguire is averageyeah he's very average, I don't know why united are interested other than for marketing, but he's worth more than 25m for sure, that's nothing in this market

Spotting the talent by the first "big" move would be nice, a lot of the top clubs are so risk averse, they end up paying 4-5x more than they need to. Don't quite get it.
Liverpool could have bought van Dijk directly from Celtic, and United could have bought Maguire directly from Hull, for not a lot of risk, but then you could argue they would not have developed the same way.

Matip's better than Lovren. There you go.
Lovren will actively lose you games, and in his better moments is merely adequate.

Lovren got to a Champions League and World Cup Final because he’s a really good central defender. He’s not merely present, or adequate. He was the man of the match against City at the Etihad and one of the top performers against Rome.
He’s a threat from set pieces and a relentless worker. He also hasn’t let serious blunders such as the Spurs match impact him negatively to the point of career collapse.
People are way too harsh on Lovren. He would start in way more teams than you think.

Never watched a match that made me think otherwise. Matip isn't great, but Lovren is just supremely poor if you ever want to win anything because he will lose you an important game along the line. Sakho was also better than him.
By OneTwoTee Go To PostLovren was better than Matip last season, especially once VVD was in.
Doesn't help that Matip seems to be made of tissue paper.
Ya I'll give you his injury issues. Lovren would make wish injury upon him if he was in a team I supported.

I didn’t realise I had two at no. 6. Big Mike Hector had to go
I can defend Davinson up there. He is quality. And only ahead of Stones (who was benched quite a bit, perhaps unfairly), Tarkowski, and Maguire who none of you had even heard of a month ago.

No United players in that list and yet we had the second best defence last year by a goal. DDG's alright.

I know why he's picked ahead of him. His attributes are for a first line screening CB for VVD's cover role, which his mobility is better suited to than Matip. I know which player I'd take at a push though. As I said, Lovren has actively lost you games and as a United fan it is of considerable comfort that you continue to play him.

Had a bad second half of last season which means he is now bad forever.
By Pele.gif Go To Postwhat about baily is love baily is life
The next set of players to pick from would include Bailly, Mee, Lovren, Tomkins, Mawson, David Luiz, and probably some others I am forgetting or didn’t see play enough like Winston Reid and Lascelles
