- We obviously have money to spend it’s not all going on wage increases and a stadium that we’ve been planning for years
- It’s difficult to find the level of player we need to improve the squad without going £15-20m above what we have spent previously
- When we identify those players we are competing against clubs with greater financial resources, and more crucially those that have no problem paying stupid money to agents.
- Despite all of this we are still competing at a high level where it matter, i.e. on the pitch. And we’re performing better than clubs that have it much easier in the transfer market.
- It’s not a good strategy to bring in extra bodies in order to fill the gaps that exist for a few weeks. You’re just wasting space in your squad.
We need a midfielder to improve the squad not a cheap one. The manager will take someone from the development squad otherwise, because if you bring someone in they are not going to be well prepared for the first few games. And that’s all you would be using them for.

That's what so crazy about it, if true. It makes absolutely no sense. I mean, as of right now, Bonucci is obviously the better defender. But why the hell did we spend all this time grooming Caldara, only to have him play 0 minutes in official matches before shipping him out. If Bonucci is indeed coming back, the one CB we should be selling is Benatia. He's earned a place in our starting XI last season ... and now we're de facto benching him for Bonucci, the guy who left? Because Bonny is obviously going to start, there's no doubt about it.
