Enemies in the game were modeled with a skin/muscle/bone layer. You can do real-time damage to them, like shooting in the same spot to make a gaping hole you can look through, shooting enemies will reveal their insides and possibly even bone, and can shoot off their limbs as well.
Thought I might mention that, enemy response to being shot is different than past games, but is very interesting.

You didn't play Gears 4, but it was good in the popcorn kind of way. Similar to Uncharted.
Them going with this storyline is a continuation of how 4 ended and is much more interesting than what they did in that game.

Graphically? Sure. Takes more than that to get me interested though, God of War looks really nice graphically too, have I played it? Nah.

One is an Xcom style PC exclusive (which people agree is a perfect fit for Gears), and the other is Gears 5, 3 years after the previous entry. Halo is on an even longer dev path. And Forza Horizon is recognized as THE best at what it does, and is one of the top games every year it's released. Expecting them to dump those 3 core titles completely is dumb, but you know that.
