Again a large open world with a day night cycle can't always be going for the same aesthetic, that's how you end up with boring ass shit like the mirrors edge sequel. I'm sure there will be plenty of grime and darkness though.

I'm mostly surprised that William fucking Gibson commented on it, lol.
I mean, I went on record saying I actually like the fact that there's a less gritty / rain & neon overload aesthetic component to 2077, but he's not wrong about it feeling somewhat generic. Then again, if they're basing it off the board game, it can't be too far removed from dat 80s cpunk look.
This just reminded me that I would kill for a Neuromancer / Sprawl action adventure game in the vein of the old Blade Runner one.

I mean if you want all cyberpunk media to always look like Ghost in the Shell forever you have... Ghost in the Shell to watch over and over and over again.

Before we all start attributing a bunch of ideas to William fucking Gibson, let's look at what he actually said:
He also retweeted this, which is seemingly where the sunlight matter is coming in, tenuous as it is:
And this final tweet has a quite valid point, because the default Cyberpunk setting is Night City (it also has an invalid point, because Night City is in California). But Gibson never even mentioned any of that; those details don't seem to be his primary concern; he's more bothered, quite obviously, by how generic and unimaginative it looks.
He doesn't want a copy of his works; he wants something new and interesting.

AssCreed Odyssey basically looks like Origins with a Greek setting and dialog choices...which probably means I'm in unless the game is horrendously buggy.
It's a CG fucking trailer from a game that is years out still. What they showed has more in common with a summer movie trailer than an actual playable game. Who really gives a shit at this point?
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostI mean if you want all cyberpunk media to always look like Ghost in the Shell forever you have… Ghost in the Shell to watch over and over and over again.GitS' envisionment, if that's even a word, of cyberpunk is so powerful precisely because it is its own thing. There's nothing quite like it out there, or at least there wasn't at the time it came out. My hope is that CD Projekt will succeed in doing just that with 2077, bring to life a cyberpunk world that feels fresh and distinct, rather than something that's cobbled together from parts taken out of the 'generic 80s cyberpunk' cardbox.
One has to wonder how much of an impact the fact that the game's based on Mike Pondsmith's creation, which provides clear visual guidelines, will end up having. The trailer, while telling in some ways, doesn't paint the full picture. We wait.
That logo is absolute fire tho. Somebody make a 21:9 screensaver out of the logo animation at the end of the trailer. Kthxbye.
I think 2077 looked cool, but how are you guys actually ragging on Gibson? You do understand that the entire Cyberpunk genre is just an endless rehash of his and Philip K Dick’s ideas? (With a nod to Blade Runner’s visual design).
This would be like yelling at Tolkien for not understanding fantasy as well as you do.

I don't get the generic complaints. It seems like the people complaining actually want the game to look more generic.
The ad placements in the skyline is what bothers me, although I'm sure some of you will disagree with my point. Hell, I'm not really that familar with the Cyberpunk board game (or books based on the genre) so this could very well isn't in the visual guideline for the world.
For me skylines should be filled with sunny, consumer based advertisements to counter the grime on the ground. Having subculture based imagery ads doesn't really make the 'punk' aspect of the aesthetic pop, like in that image above.

I can't say anything about cyberpunk, it's a CG trailer. Might have fooled me 2003 but not 2018.

"A new world awaits you in the offworld colonies!"
I get needing some well established, genre specific visual signifiers to ground you in the world, but i just don't feel like it's a requirement.
The claim that it's cribbing GTA is fair to me, but that's a different conversation from "is it cyberpunk enough?"
