By Pennywise Go To PostNinja Theory is a really small studio. Undead Labs I dunno, but playground should be more expensive than these two combined.
By Laboured Go To PostThey’re super small studios. If they’re to make AAA games they’ll need to triple in size.
Maybe rodeo posted it, but Playground is ramping up to something like 200 people for what is probably the next Fable game they're working on.
By Trey Go To Post343 Blog Post about Halo InfiniteThey changed the look of the helmet and chief, good since he looked generic in 4 and 5. Now it seems more like the 2 and 3 version from what I can tell.
By Pennywise Go To PostNinja Theory is a really small studio. Undead Labs I dunno, but playground should be more expensive than these two combined.Playground is about 300 people across two teams. They have one team on Forza and another on Fable. The goal is to add about another 100 people to the Fable team since it's a much larger project than FH.
Undead Labs is about 80. Microsoft really needs to staff them up for whatever their next project is. (And get better animators.)
Exactly and they’ll need to do that. My cynicism comes from when they’ve tried to do similar things to Rare. Can go either way.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostDoes that genre even sell anymore? They probably would have gotten way more mileage out of going after Ni-Oh exclusivity, but they weren’t paying for 3rd party exclusives at that point. Not gangbusters but MS needs all the exclusives they can get.
In just glad Ninja Theory is ok. I know Hellblade sold well but at least they could now risk 2 AAA before being in danger of getting canned.
By Laboured Go To PostThey’re super small studios. If they’re to make AAA games they’ll need to triple in size. Not exactly, AAA development seems to be more about outsourcing hundreds of other people for asset creation than having a huge staff. For the majority of their titles, ND only had 50 to 100 employees on staff, for UC4 and I believe they had around 150 employees. They probably did Lost Legacy with half that staff.
Ninja Theory from what I can find online, has 129 employees.
Playground has 200+
sidenote: Ubisoft has kind of mastered AAA title production, it's insane what they do and we don't ever hear Developer horror stories like you hear from Rockstar.

Interesting re NT. That’s an enormous team for an indie.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostSo maybe not even 2019That is good, after how bad their two other games were they will need to get this right.
Sounds early af

seems more discussion is going on in this thread about halo so ill copy and paste what i put in the general gaming thread:
By rodeoclown Go To PostI think they needed a new engine because it sounds very open world.
I think you're right about it launching with the next Xbox, too. Hopefully they have something for this generation, Halo-wise, though. I'd love if they gave us more maps for Halo 2 Anniversary and switched back to that for MLG.
I think MCC 2.0 will be it for Halo on Xbox One. It doesn't make sense to spend all the time and money that comes with building a new engine, and on top of that the resources to then build the game, given where the Xbox One is and where we are in this generation. Feeling more confident that it's definitely going to be a launch title. You don't want to waste all of that effort for a signature title like Halo towards the end of a generation. Now, it might be cross launch like Zelda was on Switch, but I think it's definitely there day 1. If they had a game to show, they definitely would've.
From Frankie
It will continue the story from H5 but will be built in a way that makes it a good place to start your first halo adventure .
Emphasis on the italics that he used.
By Laboured Go To PostInteresting re NT. That’s an enormous team for an indie. They aren't really an indie though. More of a large third party developer like Insomniac.
Hellblade is the closest they got to releasing an 'indie' game.
I think the Rare problems largely stem from Don Mattrick and then Phil Harrison, who was also succeeded at simultaneously running Lionhead into the ground. (It was Harrison that pushed them to make the doomed Fable Legends. He knew nothing.)
You might not like Sea of Thieves, and I'm eh on it, but it's a new thing and they're passionate about it. The Hungering Deep was fun, at least. At least between that and them working on Battletoads, they aren't being stuck doing stuff like Avatars and Kinect games.

By Smokey Go To PostFrom FrankieIt takes place two years after Halo 5, based on the clock in the trailer. So it'll be like CE where Chief is already knee deep in this war against Cortana, but getting there isn't as important as finishing it.

Also, gonna put money down on Fireteam Osiris and Spartan Locke being nowhere to be found. Master Chief and Arbiter. Those are your characters.

Good catch.
That scene probably isn't even in the game. More of a trailer to show they're working on a new engine and some of the possibilities that come with it i.e. open world Halo.

(It was Harrison that pushed them to make the doomed Fable Legends. He knew nothing.)Rare already started with Peter Moore. They never delivered a good concept and MS didn't knew how to utilise them. They lost so many talented people along the way and Don Mattrick was among the worst things that could happen to them.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostThe question is, is MS likely to launch a year after PS5 if we're basing it off pro/1x releases?
I don't think One X has anything to do with the timing of the next Xbox. It's still a part of the Xbox One degenerate family. They won't allow Sony to have a year heard start, they're not in the position to do that.
By Pennywise Go To PostI'm so glad the age of motion controls is over.
Please buy Mario Tennis later this month.
That bit with the androids in the back of a cab with a human sikh driving the can had my mind racing as to narrative possibilities.

They won't allow Sony to have a year heard start, they're not in the position to do that.Yeah, they can't do that. They're already hinting at the next generation, so they'll probably launch 2020 with Halo Infinite. They showed a Killer Instinct logo at some point today, so they probably have a KI for another launch, too. Forza Horizon never misses schedule, either.
Then they have Fable, whatever Santa Monica is doing, etc. the next year.
Man I really want to believe in Halo Infinity and yeah if it isn’t coming in 2019 it should be a next box launch title.
By Laboured Go To PostHave they confirmed 60fps for dmc5?yup
By rvy Go To Postyup
Lighting looks very good.
By Smokey Go To PostSo thinking about it some more, Microsoft they really did outright buy 5 studios. That's kind of nuts.
Not really. Playgrounds been working with Soft for a while, basically first party. Rest of the studio's are small.
By s y Go To Postpretty crazy that DMC5 is 60fps, visuals are pretty great.Love the look of the hick girl genius.
Wonder what engine they’re using.

Aye yeah, DMCV technically looks really good.
Still not a fan of the more realistic artstyle though.

By Kuma Go To PostNot really. Playgrounds been working with Soft for a while, basically first party. Rest of the studio's are small.Compulsion and Undead Labs are small, though I suspect both will see a hiring bump that every Microsoft studio has seen lately. Like, The Coalition is over 250, 343 has over 500 people, etc.
What The Initiative is doing in Santa Monica, though, is not going to be small. They're hiring on a large scale for a new IP with a Halo-sized budget.

Same engine they’ll be using for REmake 2 apparently.
By jjasper Go To PostMan I really want to believe in Halo Infinity and yeah if it isn’t coming in 2019 it should be a next box launch title. What do you mean believe? Also I doubt they will launch with it, makes more sense to " save" it for later.

By unknown Go To PostWhat do you mean believe? Also I doubt they will launch with it, makes more sense to " save" it for later. What? No, you launch with Halo. It's their biggest, most important series. An open world Halo that goes back to a classic style of play and art style sells millions of consoles.

Hellblade was made on a budget of 10M including marketing, crazy.
Ninja Theory is a great buy for them. Microsoft is really lacking in the graphical powerhouse, prestige single player character driven stuff Sony has, and they can provide it if properly budgeted and staffed.
