Bit like when our local papers were running stories denying interest in Mahrez, but at least that made sense in the context of the whole VVD thing last summer.
Anyone who thinks Man Utd were solidly in for Fabinho this summer is a bit daft. It made sense pre-Matic, but not now, and Monaco would have surely tried to play us off against eachother if we both wanted him. Though having said that, Atletico were supposed to be signing him and we just seemed to come out of nowhere and get it done before anyone could even contemplate making a higher offer. Unless Fabinho himself decided to join us as soon as our interest in him became clear.

We probably sounded out Fabinho up to a year ago. I don’t think Liverpool are doing any transfers on short notice these days.
