The Philly process is overrated. Magic have been worse and Philly didn't even have the worst record in the league in the years they tanked.
By Red Blaster Go To Postthey got ben simmons the year they went 10-72, learn some facts lmaoAye. Their tanking years (after Jrue trade through last season):
2014: 29th best record
2015: 28th
2016: 30th
2017: 27th
By Red Blaster Go To Postthey got ben simmons the year they went 10-72, learn some facts lmaoWhat does that have to do with what I said? They won 19 games and picked Embiid. They won 18 and picked Okafor.
Magic fucking sucked for years now and having nothing to show for it. They trusted the process worse than any other team in the league and are garbage top to bottom.

That 10 win season was the worst record that year.

lmao sy you know nothing
magic have picked in the top 3 literally *once* in the post-dwight era and that was 2013. if anything they weren't as committed as they should have been to 'the process'

Lakers tank will last at least as long as Philly's and the best they got is Lonzo Ball and Kuzma which they could've picked as a playoff team.
At least The Process is more repeatable than the OKC model (back when that was talked about being the way to team build). It makes for a less enjoyable product while it is in use, though.

The Process involved a set of principles Hinkie adhered to, it wasn’t just finishing with the worst record. The core one being expected value - he specifically drafted guys who would have gone higher but whose stock dropped due to injury, knowing they’d usually recover. He stockpiled mountains of picks because he knew it was impossible to bat 1.000 even at the top of the draft. He understood the real value of 2nd round picks way before most did. He targeted size first, knowing it was easier to accrue value trading down in height than up. He was always about bpa, wasn’t worried about fit during the building because it wasn’t relevant yet. Everything was about maximizing assets.
Orlando and Sacramento and whoever else haven’t been doing all these same things.

The question at this point is if Noel is also china bound

Hinkie's Okafor pick was extremely bad. Hinkie confused the fact that players like Okafor had succeeded in the past (based on his statistical model) did not mean that players like Okafor would succeed in the future. Okafor would have been good 15 years ago... He's got no chance in the 2018 NBA though.
Hinkie relied too much on backward looking statistics there instead of trying to adjust for how the game had changed (which is very hard in general, but the Okafor pick was an easier case because he's a guy with lead shoes in a pick and roll league).
But the rest of his moves were very good I think even if Noel never developed like he should have.
