I can't remember, was the criticism this bad when United dropped out of the group stage under LVG. Would be interesting to revisit that in previous threads after I get back from work.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostThere is a huge difference when you are trying to say your current club lacks recent European success(lmao, his side just won the competition that he used to big up Seville's European success). How do you gain that 'heritage'? By going as far in competitions as possible.
Basically no Arsenal fan should complain about Wenger, because the team is not ready to win competitions. So all those embarassing loses are ok.
Jose lost a must win game and is now blaming everyone except his pathetic team selection and gameplan.
It is not honesty, it is scapegoating.
But he's not saying that though shanks, what he said is very true.
I dunno I keep going on about short term memory or selective memory but it's like everyone has forgotten just how bad this utd team was. He's shown considerable progress in restoring some "heritage" to utd. Like you had teams like Stoke and Swansea going into games with utd with confidence that they could win and they often would. You don't just go from that to becoming a dominant force in one or two seasons. The diff between mou and wenger is that regardless of whether you like his football or not, man utd are a far better team than before he arrived. He's showing progress, wenger has regressed.
Of course he's made some shit decisions and shouldn't be excused. But really don't understand the wenger treatment he's getting.

Losing is ok, Tuesday was a straight-up surrender. And that's what was unforgivable about it.
Moyes made a less despondent exit from the CL against Bayern Munich
let that sink in

Pretty much this.
Kidjr, the team might be better than when he arrived, but they still have had absolutely pathetic games with him incharge. Then he tries to make excuses.
Imagine me saying it is ok that Italy didn’t qualify for the world cup because realistically we were not gonna win it.

Yeah if you drop against Sevilla that's your current threshold and gauge for your level of UCL readiness; it means there's a larger gap to cover for next year. Often in football this means jack shit, as there isn't always a linear progression of teams, be it upwards or downwards, but still, that kind of lazy excuse would be the end of 90% of football. Why fight for 2nd place after you lock top 4? There's no difference. Same for places 6 to 17, what's the point?
It's also like he doesn't understand the Man United job he took either; I mean clearly he understood that returning the club to the Champions League was important for the prestige, so likewise why doesn't he understand the importance of making the club's name being present in the Last 8 again? He does, he's just using this shit pragmatism which is total hogwash to cover his ass and not discuss the real issue which was presenting a coward setup; it's Sevilla - they are not out of reach because you tied there and you brought the tie to Old Trafford, so you have play attacking football and go for the win. Instead he was just terrified of Sevilla's away goal because of the goalless draw in the first leg. And that's where he failed his job. Not because Sevilla won more european trophies in the last 7 seasons, not because it doesn't matter dropping in the last 16 or 8 or 4 (from the fucking guy who won a Champions League with Porto), but because he was afraid a paid the price for it.
He's still good and there's still a great manager in him. It's just hidden so deep by all the failures in the face of his meteoric rise and nearly flawless first 6-7 seasons of his career that gave him a god complex. He's traumatised and doesn't let it go. He's career childhood didn't know what failure was so he doesn't know how to deal with it. You see it in the way he manages, you see it in the way he presents himself. He's become a slob at times because he believes the tracksuit and sloppy hair and bitch tits are more fitting of a hardworking, struggling-against-the-circumstances manager; they provide him an excuse and a narrative, but they are also a consequence of his constant mild depression and high degree of neuroticism.
I still think he's a good (not necessarily the best) man for the job, and should stay, and overall he's been improving the club. But I hope he sees the light again, and not in the fake "I am the happy one" way that lasts until the first obstacle, but that he really takes care of his mental health before going off the deep end.

As an Arsenal fan, I want to see my team play well against the best sides. I've no expectation of winning these games much less winning the tournament; I just want to see us play well. If we're generally poor, then I couldn't care less about even qualifying as it's unlikely that we'll play well.
What's the point of qualifying for a competition and stumbling our way through the group stages only to be humiliated in the latter stages?
Most Utd fans share my sentiment on this. Their frustration has been because the performances (not so much failure to advance) have been poor. They expect, and rightfully so with the money the team has invested, to play more entertaining, attacking football.
If you offered me Arsenal would stumble their way through the CL Final, and lose, I wouldn't want that. I'd rather we play brilliantly and go out early.

Eh, I think mentally this is the most... sane Mou has been in football.
Sometimes I think this is the neutered version of Jose.

Honestly, I've been far more bemused than frustrated at our football.
United didn't take a stride forward in playing modern ball playing football, but we have developed an amalgam of Mou and classic Fergie way.

Why stop there? Is there no difference between going out in the groups or the last 16? No difference between going out in the play-offs or the groups? No difference between nearly qualifying and actually qualifying?

Spurs are playing now? So many TBC on the fixture list that i have no idea if it's because of the snow or Fa cup or what the hell is going on.
mourinho's squad with the exception of lukaku and matic of course must be thrilled to learn that they're not good enough. more than half a billion spent after ferguson's retirement, and yet they're still not good enough.

No I wouldn't be happy but I'd certainly be mindful that three seasons ago, teams like Stoke and Swansea were coming to places like OT and expecting to win. That the name man utd barely commanded respect let alone fear into any team in epl, that the team was a frighteningly downward spiral and were burning through cash at an alarming rate and signing dross.
Yeah shit he's got it wrong more than once this season but like considering where utd were as club think alot more respekk should be put on his name.
