By Kibner Go To PostDang, this makes me sad. Wish it was more accurate. The thread has more examples of why it isn't reliable:
Steven Adams is more of a push out of the way than a box out type of guy.
By Smokey Go To Postwhat's 600k to a billionaire, but ok.But they're about to come down on him for this sexual harassment thing, too. Mavs might be looking for a new owner in a week.
If Silver wanted to really do some damage, he should've forfeited their pick.
I think that's the only way you are going to see teams stop blatantly tanking.

This will just make Cuban more defiant. Everybody knows what the Warriors and Sixers did. So you can do it, just don't talk about? Ok, cool.

Yep.
Pocket fines ain't shit to billionaires, I don't know why commissioners don't get that. Take away the one thing he's been going for all season, a draft pick, and THAT will have a impact going forward.
Mark Cuban will probably make that 600k back in the next 2 hours or something.
By reilo Go To PostWhat in the fuck?

poor judgment =/= dirt.
wonder if it's against the CBA in some way to take a draft pick away for just some comments. hell when is the last time anyone actually lost a pick for anything? i feel like that Joe Smith tampering thing when i was a kid was the last time.
By domino Go To Postpoor judgment =/= dirt.Enabling and protecting said behavior might be viewed the same as participating in it by the NBA.

I'm not a lawyer or make the rules for these organizations but I'm pretty sure a contract like that probably violates sexual harassment in the workplace rules by virtue of its mere existence.
By Jeff-DSA Go To PostDo you think he sent out a memo?lmao. It really is so fucking ridiculous.

The NBA didn't do anything about Sterling for a looooooooooong time.
They ain't doing shit about Cuban.
They ain't doing shit about Cuban.
David Stern didn't do shit about Sterling for a long time. Silver acted the moment he had ammunition.
And post Harvey Weinstein and how NCAA/MSU handled Larry Nassar? Naw, this has more legs these days.

Cuban probably ain't nothing happening on that front but that contract is probably just the fucking tip of the iceberg if they felt compelled to even draft something like that. Personally I don't know how on at least a logical level that it's not already in violation of many codes of conduct and creating a hostile workplace by virtue of what it's implying out right stipulating.
Cuban is an idiot for keeping the guy on the payroll, but he'll probably save his spot since he forced the guy into counseling and quarantined away from all of the other employees, rather than retaliating against/ignoring the victims, as is so often the case.
As for the fine, there's a pretty big difference between talking about tanking or draft position or 'developing youth' in a general sense, and the owner coming out and saying "I invited these dudes out to dinner and said don't win shit if you want to work here next year."

By Smokey Go To Postwhat's 600k to a billionaire, but ok.
Billionaires treat their bank account like XP in the asshole MMORPG though. Silver just came along like some vampire boss that drained a level off him. He’s going to be bitching up a storm in rich-guy Discord tonight about how the game is broken.
But I guess that’s the price you pay for not paying enough attention to the raid video first and stupidly drawing aggro.
Cuban seems like the kind of dude who it's chill when he's throwing around massive amounts of dough because his control but probably throws a fit if he's charged the wrong amount per pound on like potatoes.
By domino Go To Postpoor judgment =/= dirt.
Dude, that’s not poor judgment, that’s just a WOAT “when you think about it, I’m actually the hero here” excuse. I’m selling all my Cuban stock.
There's gonna be dirt. You don't just draft up contract clauses for someone to avoid an entire gender at work. Not even the military can get away with that mess.

Mark Cuban is worth $3,700,000,000+. Those fines are a bit above $2,000,000.
lol
It helps to see the actual numbers written out. Ain't shit. Dock him actual picks and I bet it comes to a stop real quick.
Dolan literally fired someone for reporting sexual harassment, then got sued for it and lost and the league didn't do shit. Cuban is safe.
Yeah, if that's the worst they got on him there isn't anything happening.
And all you have to remember, to know nothing happening, is that many other NBA head offices are going to have this mess and the NBA isn't evicting half the league owners.

But i'm not sure if this is some dumb schtick or you actually think it. But they'll never dock a bad team picks. Not unless they're found tampering with free agents or kids pre-draft.
The tanking thing just seems like something the NBA is actually chill with just don't be openly touting that shit. If they weren't cool with it they'd be way more fucking punitive and just strip the pick. But they don't. So it's obviously a "let us look the other way" and when you fuck up and make it too obvious then they're like "bro stop it."

Like someone pointed out, that was under Stern and in a different, pre-social justice era. Silver's been way more out front about that stuff. Stern freaked out at the Iverson era and made everyone wear suits. Silver fatalitied Sterling and is out there telling Fox News to STFU.
By Smokey Go To PostDock him actual picks and I bet it comes to a stop real quick.
That would be the actual response if they were serious about ending tanking. I think on the low there's tacit acceptance that teams need to do it to keep fans' hopes up and stop STHs from running for the hills.
Why does Cuban have to say anything? The team is 14 million dollars under the cap. Of course they are tanking.
By Random Ass Username Go To PostThat Dolan stuff as well as some other shit is why I chuckled to myself at that #LeanIn bullshit. The one with Jrue was nice. :(
e: he legit skipped training camp and the first quarter of the season to be with his wife who was expecting while also dealing with a brain tumor
didn't even realize the pels are in the tax, do you think ownership has any concerns about that kib?
Cuban must have fired all the people who exist just to tell him to shut the fuck up he's doin' too much.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postdidn't even realize the pels are in the tax, do you think ownership has any concerns about that kib? They aren't, though, iirc. Just literally right up against it.

You seem to be over it by less than a million, but I'm not sure if there are partially guaranteed deals or any other weird things you can do to nudge it below the tax
It would be important to avoid the repeater tax I think
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostYou seem to be over it by less than a million, but I'm not sure if there are partially guaranteed deals or any other weird things you can do to nudge it below the taxThey are definitely under it by around a million, maybe a little less, according to the reporters close to the team I trust. Dell likes putting unlikely incentives in his contracts and that is where they are making up the difference.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostWhy does Cuban have to say anything? The team is 14 million dollars under the cap. Of course they are tanking.Because he's one of those guys who thinks of himself as a straight-shooter who tells it like it is (ie., got to where he is in life by lacking tact).
Speaking of Jrue, he put up pictures of his family during the All Star break, pretty much all of them starring his kid. :3
I like how Silver sits on this high horse and fines people for admitting to the benefits of losing out. Yet he does nothing to blatant tanking, McD sat Bledsoe for like 25 games with not even a medical excuse and didn’t even get mentioned negatively. Cuban hasn’t done anything nearly as bad roster wise.
Sure it’s stupid for him to admit it, but doesnt make it any worse than the GM’s that say they aren’t tanking and then go and shut down their healthy players that contibute to possible wins.
