http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/22343526/los-angeles-lakers-recalibrating-focus-2019-free-agent-class
As the Los Angeles Lakers become more realistic about the franchise's chances of snaring superstars in the free-agent class of 2018, the front office is increasingly looking through a longer lens in its team building process, league sources told ESPN.Lakers realize nobody wants to play for them.
The Lakers aren't abandoning a summer pursuit of stars, but rather they are recalibrating their focus on a 2019 class that could include San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard, Golden State's Klay Thompson and Minnesota's Jimmy Butler, league sources told ESPN.
George staying in OKC is looking more and more like a lock. Particularly if they can bring in Bradley.
By rodeoclown Go To Posthttp://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/22343526/los-angeles-lakers-recalibrating-focus-2019-free-agent-classPretty tough to want to sign up for a scenario where if you shine you have to hear how LaVar is telling sports bloggers that you're killing his boy's shine or if you struggle at how you're the reason his boy isn't winning. Imagine the LBJ vs. LaVar stuff that would erupt after a 3-game losing streak.
Lakers realize nobody wants to play for them.
The thing in LA's favour is that only like 7 teams have major cap space, all of them suck (except Philly) and the Lakers have the most. Lots of teams up against the tax and need to shed salary, too.
Lakers 35 million
76ers 30 million
Nets 15
Hawks 21
Bulls 24
Suns 17
Mavs 20
I don't know hiw much the Ball thing factors in. Me? I'd be saying fuck that, but I don't know how many NBA egos are going to walk away from something because they're scared of a sports dad.

Where are the trades??? Hope this deadline has a lot of activity. It's been boring the last few seasons.
Ainge will send Smart to Cleveland, turn LeBron into his new sixth man, and get back the Brooklyn pick.
I really feel like everything works against a Marcus Smart trade. He's bad, they want a first, and the team that trades for him has to sign him to an extension. But Danny Ainge will find this team and they will give him two picks, somehow.

Hope he is off my team soon, tired of him.

Shhhhhh
By rodeoclown Go To PostDenver needs a point guard more than anything and want to trade for Tyreke. Ugh.Tyreke plays point and has had a career year so far. Thats a good acquisition if Denver can get him.
Edit: according to bbalk ref, almost 30% of Tyreke's minutes this year have been played at point.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/22346638/washington-wizards-engaged-trade-talks-involving-marcin-gortat
The Washington Wizards have been engaged in trade talks involving center Marcin Gortat, multiple sources told ESPN.
Several teams have shown interest, but the Wizards are looking to improve their team now while not taking on additional long-term money, sources said.
Washington has expressed interest in LA Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, ESPN's Zach Lowe reported. Gortat has one year and $13.5 million left on his contract. Jordan can opt to be a free agent this summer.
Marcus Smart is Roberson with a hype man. FOH at getting a 1st for him.
Only Pop could turn him into something useful.

By Randolph Freelander Go To PostAlso remember as the trade deadline approaches, would some benevolent GM please rescue Tyus Jones.Tyus has actually been the first man off the bench for a couple games in a row now and his minutes are trending up. Probably related to the fact that Teague refused to go back into a game last week. Thibs hates stuff like that. He probably thinks Teague is soft and not a gamer now or some other old school shit.

I can think of no harsher or more depressing condemnation of the, god, coming up on 15 years Ernie Grunfeld, a cartilage-brained nincompoop who never saw a ruinous short-sighted midseason trade he didn’t like, has spent as the head personnel honcho of the Washington Wizards than that the following sort of vaguely rumor-ish object, cast onto the internet yesterday by ESPN basketball columnist Zach Lowe, seems like exactly the sort of thing Grunfeld will do if nobody stops him:The Wizards have investigated the market for [DeAndre] Jordan without gaining any traction, sources say. A package of Marcin Gortat, Jason Smith (perhaps heading to a third team), Kelly Oubre and a first-round pick has long been my favorite realistic Jordan package.
Hm, yes, the Wizards definitely should ship out a 22-year-old two-way wing with brain-melting athleticism who can guard multiple positions and hit 40 percent of his three-pointers, plus a first-round pick that would give them their best near-term shot at ever replacing that skill-set, to get an aging 29-year-old center who can’t score from outside the restricted area or play in fourth quarters and who will never ever get better than he already is and who isn’t all that good even now and who only has one extremely expensive season left on his hilariously oversized contract. This is the line of thinking that will land DeAndre Jordan in Washington, and my hastily detached head at the bottom of a pond. We’ve seen this line of thinking before, in the stupid Wizards diaspora.

Magic got LA fined 50K for tampering lol. Supposedly said something about Giannis in an interview that the league didn't like.
Everybody has doofus-ass no-range centers; a healthy majority of the league’s teams have more than they want, thanks to commitments they made just before trends in the game rendered one-dimensional rim-protectors all but worthless. There are more doofus-ass no-range centers than the sport can fit.
lmao, so true though

Seems to be a recurring theme.
athletic, rim running rim-protectors absolutely have a place in the current NBA. If Jordan was actually a smart defender, he would be godlike. Well ok, if he could kind of shoot free throws too.

Capela shows that this is a great skill set to have when the team is built right, and the lob City Clippers/Dwight Magic/non-contract year Tyson Chandler teams have shown it's a great skill set to have.
DeAndre Jordan cannot be your 3rd best player though.
Charlotte
The Hornets continue to field calls on Kemba Walker, but no Walker deal gets done unless a team absorbs one of the handful of bad contracts on Charlotte’s roster, sources said. Another variable at play: The future of GM Rich Cho. Cho is in the final year of his contract and there have been rumblings that former Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak is a favorite among high-ranking team officials to take over next summer. If Hornets owner Michael Jordan is resolved to replace Cho, he may not sign off on dealing Charlotte’s most appealing asset.
