I can't imagine fighting kirin with the greatsword
Teostra is much easier when you spend the entire fight fucking terrified of his aoe explosion. I run a mile when he displays even a hint of hovering

it might not be so bad with other weapons, but with the glaive you don't even want to do shit when he gets enraged. i was mid flight one time when he started the nuke up and i've been scared to engage him ever since
Glaive seems weird like that
Mobility looks huge, but the game is so finely balanced to punish you for mistiming an attack by mere split seconds and getting locked into it, and that move looks like a keystone of using the glaive

It took me 84 hours to finish main story and all optional quests(or at least the ones that I have unlocked).
Took me 44 hours to get to HR, did everything with Kulu armor and mostly lance.
Once I hit HR I went for Zorah armor and Long Sword, this when I started to do some optional missions online, find out that it's pretty easy to just look for an specific quest and join others.
Couple of things that are definitely great QOL additions:
- No load screens between areas, newer hunters would never know the pain of being stuck with fighting a monster between areas.
- Wishlist is a blessing. It's just way easier to focus on upgrading your weapons and the reason why some sessions went longer that I planned.
- Fast traveling within camps is also a more efficient way to travel along the map.
- Tracking while no perfect ( ancient forest mostly) is just a great resource to no waste a lot time.
One thing that I think can be improved it's that monster drops are sometimes hard to spot, or disappear to fast.
Cool fights:
- Tobi
- Pink Rathian ( only quest where I was down to my last faint and out of potions)
- Odogaron ( while I expected to be stronger, I like the pace of the fight in general)
Disappointments:
- All elder dragons except Teostra.
- Anja (his moveset feels pretty limited once you cut his tail). Can't wait for Jo to be available and show him how an asshole it's supposed to behave.
Still need a Teostra gem and a Rathian ruby to be done with all Long Swords that I want.

You unlock an additional Optional quest if you max out 15 (?) research levels. There is another one that opens up once you hit HR 100. In case you still need more motivation to keep playing. :p
i'm in agreement too tbh koko - the monsters aren't.... they're not THAT threatening compared to before. there's some really challenging fights, sure, but many of the fights feel they're more defense oriented from both sides.
Oh, well, I'm a dumbo. I didn't know about augmentations for your gear. It lets you max out your weapons and armor even more after they reach the natural end of their upgrade tiers. It requires super rare streamstones that are weapon category specific (i.e. one of the streamstones can only be used to upgrade hammers and hunting horns).
For weapons, you can increase attack, affinity, defense, add an extra jewel slot, or add health regen on hit. Weapons only have so many augmentation slots available, based on rarity (higher rarity = fewer slots). For armor, it lets you upgrade their defense further. A piece of armor can only be augmented a single time.

Oh, if you want to farm those streamstones I mentioned, best thing to do is search for SOS that are 9* Investigations with rewards still available.
Dy, here's a guide I found to augmentation: http://www.ign.com/wikis/monster-hunter-world/Augmentation
I started looking up more details on it because I have the mats to augment my Teostra horn and don't know what to get. Looks like the only one people don't recommend is Defense.
e: found some Q/A on GameFAQs and it looks like Affinity augment is always a better choice than Attack augment until you have 100% crit. for raw damage, anyway

I also found a weapon tier list, but not how sure it is helpful, tbh: https://www.invenglobal.com/articles/4261/long-sword-dual-blades-at-the-top-weapon-tier-list-for-monster-hunter-world-after-patch-105

Can you upgrade armor in this like in AssCreed Origins? So if I like an armor set where the elbow and cape don't clip through the sword on my back I don't have to change?

There can be a difference of around 10 defense (don't know exactly, but could be as much as 12) between the weakest and strongest armor at very end game. This is after all the upgrades and everything. It can be a difference when farming the strongest monsters in the game, but that is at like over 100 hours played if not more.

tempered kirin, lolz. beat him two days ago and it took me 30 minutes or so... I don't think I did a full combo on him once with the glaive. never hopped either
By DY_nasty Go To Postmost stuff then will one shot you regardless then anywaysI've been farming him quite a bit recently. Usually through an SOS. Takes about 18-20 minutes. I never get close to being one shot, but I can certainly be two shot!

Now, Teostra, on the other hand... Did a tempered version of him earlier today, got stuck in a horn song and couldn't get out of the way of his explosion and got one-shot with full max health, 420+ defense, and 20+ fire resistance. :'(

but i agree, you really gotta overgear towards resistances later on... mantles, armorskins, any other buff you can get is more necessary than the +/- 10 armor
a raw bolt from kirin is pretty much game over. or anything from diablos for that matter. or b52. basically anything bigger than legiana

Might have been an artistic decision, but the overblown lighting makes the colors look washed out.
edit: shouldn't have watched that DF video. game is kinda blurry whenever you move.

By s y Go To PostMy heart is telling me Katana but this insect glaive….you can't go wrong with anything, but i will say that the glaive is probably the most complex weapon in the game
from the animations, to the buffs, to the movement, even the upgrades.... its a handful.
thx ^^
fucking around in the training forest and I can see that plenty of thought was put into the weapons. Part of me wanted to call the katana trash at first because I couldn't really change directions between my swings at will. Then after trying out the sword & shield you can totally do that LIKEINDARKSOULS. It makes sense considering the size of the long sword so I'm cool with it. That type of logic carries over to the other weapons as well.
edit: the tutorial should tell you more about the weapon. I had to look on youtube to realize that the long sword's spirit gauge leveled up depending on if the last hit of the spirit combo lands.

By s y Go To PostDo I make a waifu or husbandu?I normally make female characters when given the choice. Unless I'm given an option for an inhuman race (like lizard people) then I pick one of those and whatever gender (if they different genders) looks cooler.
This 6* event is real nice for getting mats. Kill five high-rank monsters which are spread out and not having to deal with that bomber fucking you up. Has taken between 22-24 minutes both times I've tried it.
I'm still fucking up the combo thing with my sword but I upgraded to not so shit status last night and I can kill highrank monsters solo. Need more D though. Fainting from nothing. Also tried out arena cause I want that high rank Radobaan gear. Best way to farm a particular monster and get materials.
BTW, if you go to the Gathering Hub, there are special hub quests there that will get you mats for completely new armor sets.
By s y Go To PostHow do I make the next upgrade in my Weapon skill tree available? It's an odd layout but you got to do it through upgrade not forge new items...
By s y Go To PostHow do I make the next upgrade in my Weapon skill tree available?Kill new monsters or unlock new area. Once you get access to all the resources needed by a weapon, the tree will unlock for it.
Basically, keep playing and don't worry about it. It's not holding you back, just hiding what you can't possibly make for the moment.
By s y Go To PostThanks. Is there away to start the game ofline or do I have to matchmake everytime?I don't know about starting it offline, but you can just create a private session, instead.
By Kibner Go To PostI don't know about starting it offline, but you can just create a private session, instead. This plus sleep mode
matchmaking still decent, if you get in some shit you can SOS and randos will help you take a monster out
By Random Ass Username Go To Postmatchmaking still decent, if you get in some shit you can SOS and randos will help you take a monster outMatchmaking actually has nothing to do with SOS. All it does is put you in a room where everyone can join your quests by choosing from Available Quests, regardless of if you fire up an SOS or not.
