whats the coop experience like? is it good?
heard that monsters are scaled to group size which seemed kind of bad....like, then there's no advantage to not soloing everything right?

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postwhats the coop experience like? is it good?Coop organizing is a pain in the ass due to odd design decisions. Once you learn how the system works, it's pretty easy to get together.

The monster health does scale, yes. But having extra players also gives the monster extra targets. And there are some weapons, like the hunting horn, that can give group buffs or like the various bows that can more easily inflict status conditions. Also, some weapon types are better at breaking some monster parts than others (I think) and "severing" weapons are needed to cut off the tails of monsters, both of which can give you materials you can't get otherwise in addition to making the fight easier.
no one uses the horn but kibner and like 5 other people
but its roughly the same scaling as destiny's or diablo's imo. barely noticeable with even a halfway decent party. and i play with randos more than a set group really.
there's advantages to soloing in that you directly control/react to certain phases and shifts in a fight on your own terms and pace (good and bad). in a group, all sorts of shit can happen (good and bad). up to you and what you're in the mood for. also you can get tails with a boomerang or the right pod

I've played for like more than 100 hours, primarily grouped, and I have been in a group with another hunting horn player twice. Maybe three times, but definitely less than five. It's a struggle out here.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthow locked into certain playstyles are you? is it easy to transition between weapons?breh just hop in lol
By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthow locked into certain playstyles are you? is it easy to transition between weapons?Yeah, with some caveats. All gear has set stats. Stats include attack/defense/resistance, but they also come with skills. Higher level gear also has slots where you can stick gems in to give you more skills.
Skills are things that give you more damage, crit rate, defense, resistance, and a billion other things. Some of them only have a single level and some can have up to like 7.
Some armor also have set bonuses for wearing enough pieces of the set.
Due to the information above, changing weapons and playstyle is also about customizing your skill loadout. What you want can change depending on weapon and the target you are hunting. Gems can be freely placed and removed. There are loadouts you can use to quickly get into your favorite gear. You also have unlimited storage space in towns/at camps, so you can actually make everything there is in the game, if you want.
I switched to the hammer from the Switch Axe because it felt like transforming was just constantly setting me up to get fucked by the monster.
I ended up switching to long sword. It's fairly quick and easy to use as long as you read the attack patterns of monsters and dodge appropriately.
I'm not keen on trying out other weapons now I've hit high rank because I'll have to grind for more materials to make good weapons.

Don't forget to buy a Powercharm and Armorcharm from the item vendor when they become available. They buff your attack and defense while in your pouch. Also, you can eventually craft them into a Powertalon and Armortalon which do the same thing, but more. And they can stack with each other (though taking up four slots in the inventory is a drag).
Also, don't forget to cultivate godbugs for free money (best time/cost ratio) if you don't need anything else from the botany tree of life dude.

By blackace Go To Postlongsword damage wasn't really enough for me… I would rather use the Sw&Sh or twin blades instead
Was this with or without using the special moves? I mean it’s got some really good mobility and move set with the spirit gauge. Can be really nasty when you constantly hold level 3 and use helm splitter.
Longsword is my main for the most part, but I won’t lie sword and shield with the speed is pretty nasty dps wise
Credits are rolling so I guess I beat the main story? Still have so much grinding left to do and I hear there are new "enhanced" versions of all the monsters to take on now. First MH game I've ever stuck with long enough to actually beat.
How do you save your customised radial menus? Mine keep resetting themselves.
Was building a dragon set before realising my main weapon has an element limit of 120, which is achieved by getting just one level in dragon damage. Will probably build the set anyway cos it looks good.

I'll give that a go later
Who the fuck decided to put EZ traps on the default radial menu? I've done like 2 quests where you get them. Hating navigating the Ancient Forest now, its verticality and labyrinthine nature are just a massive pain in the arse to navigate when fighting flying enemies.
Think Wildspire might be my favourite zone because of it.
I hate to say it, but the clipping is annoying me a bit. Got a badass cloak, but the folds on my coil and my weapon clearly clip through it at all times

psy is toxic smh
And yeah, the ancient forest is cute til you're chasing a rathian from one skyscraper to the next

Yeah, I still haven't learned the routes in the tree tops for that mess. I really love flying around with the beetles on the Coral Reef map or whatever it's called.
I now have 3 of the 4 super rare collectible animals. Two of them were quest the requirements and the third was just right place, right time. Not sure if I'm going to go after the fourth.
But, with all that done, I'm still missing some food ingredients. It looks like you get them by doing the map-specific collectibles on a map when things are flourishing or whatever it says in the bottom right. I think that only happens on expeditions? Not sure if I'll ever bother filling out the rest of that menu.

By gotemrunnin Go To PostI'm still only level 3 ya'll……..It ain't no thang. You end the main story at 15. Just keep working on taking down bigger and badder bosses!
I'm still at work and I had to open this:
I'm dying. I can't take this shit, I'm straight dying at my desk and my section still got 30 workers and contractors here. GOD I AM TRYING SO HARD.

By blackace Go To PostSo talk to me about affinity… because I am plotting what weapons I want to make..It's crit chance. I think Dy was saying something last night that you can only crit on certain attacks, though.
By DY_nasty Go To Postgood games kib!Should be quick and easy to farm Teostra and Vaal Hazak for all their gear.
one day i'll screenshot these charge blade kills
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postfeel like the games been out two weeks and yall already got a thousand hours into it wtfIt's easy to spend a lot of time doing things and not get bored in this game. Helps that you can fight the same monsters in completely different areas to mix things up.
By Hitch Go To PostDoing Val Hazek SOS assignments is a nightmareMaxing out the Miasma skill (or is that the gem name?) prevents the half-max-health debuff from affecting you. That makes it easier, at least. You probably already knew this, but I did science last night to confirm.
I only do them for Optionals and Investigations now
Yeah I've been doing thay since my first attempt. Problem is that people seem to send an SOS before trying to figure the monster out, so you go into someone's game when they have no nulberries or anti-effluvial gear, and die quickly and constantly
Just use that areal spell that nullifies the miasma Hitch.
Tried to farm the Xeno'jiiva set and made a stupid mistake. Usually the quest only pops up randomly for 2 tries, but I never saw it in the search filter for the SOS flares. Only had to speak to the scientist to make it available...
Those level jumps are pretty weird though. Killing that 2x purple bezelgeuse gives you 10+ levels.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postdy what weapon do u usecharge blade
how about u htich
i'm barry bonds in this bitch
its a pretty steep learning curve to use effectively though.
I feel like you have to be way too close with the gun to get the correct damage
kind of defeats the purpose

By Kibner Go To PostIt's crit chance. I think Dy was saying something last night that you can only crit on certain attacks, though.Thinking of making a barroth bone hammer but all of them stay -15% affinity...
about affinity, almost all normal attacks do get effected by it. all positive affinity means you're x likely to do 25% increased damage. all negative affinity means you're x likely to do 25% LESS damage.
for something like charge blades or anything with phial damage, it doesn't matter because those big charged attacks that rely on 'outside' weapon damage still form based on your overall attack stats. so for example, my charge blade's special is still drop the fat booty damage regardless of the crit multipliers. a hammer or long sword though could suffer that negative affinity penalty during its bigger combos.
there's ways to spruce up your affinity numbers through gear and charms however...

By blackace Go To PostSo basically -15% affinity is across-the-board with the hammer?pretty much, but i'm not sure how their specials stack up or anything.
So that's why my helm splitter can do anything from 100-280 damage
Probably won't bother with my -30% greatsword then

By blackace Go To PostMan beat that barroth twice now but too shook to make a weapon because of the affinity lolDon't worry about that kind of stuff until you are fighting elder dragons in high rank.
