I think it varies panel to panel. It's a thing with OLED but I'm willing to deal with it (if you have it) to get the benefits of OLED. To me if I can't see it when I'm watching TV, then it's not a concern. I'm not going to throw on color screens or whatever and go looking for issues I wouldn't see during normal, regular viewing.
Best Buy is the only one I think that actually honors burn in on their warranty.
But what if they get it down to 65" 4K and a decent price and I still see the lines / gaps between the connected modules, Smokey. What then?
By Laboured Go To PostHey dudes looking for a pre-built TV, anything worth getting atm? It's funny to think that this might in fact be a statement worth of ridicule in about 5 years. #TVMR
TCL pulling out all stops for the SuperBowl.
For a limited time, Best Buy is once again offering the TCL 6 Series 65-inch Roku 4K TV for $799.99 shipped (plus tax). It normally sells for $970.
Hang on, aren't there 65-inch TVs available for less? Yes, but it's worth spending a little more on this one, because it offers virtually unparalleled bang for the buck – and in fact it's a CNET Editors' Choice pick.
Obviously it's noteworthy for offering built-in Roku, which is my personal-favorite smart TV UI, but the 6 Series really wowed my fellow editors with its deep blacks, accurate color and excellent overall image quality.
In other words, it's not only affordable, it's also good – really, really good. (Oh, and really, really big. A 65-inch TV is just a wonderful thing.) Read CNET's TCL 65R617 review to learn more.
I'm pretty stoked with the set up I'm building for my remodel. It's gonna be so clean. Everything will be in the wall for the most part. I'll have to smallish AV towers on each side of the fireplace with the TV mounted and centered on top. I'll be running HDMI 2.0 cables from one side to the other via wall plates. That way components on Side A can reach the receiver on Side B cleanly via HDMI.

Then I'll run one HDMI 2.0 Cable from Side B to center of TV and also mount power there. I'll have an RCA outlet for the sub on the wall fed from the plate on side B too. All speaker wires in wall from side B plate. I should basically have very little clutter as everything will be short jumpers to the wall outlets and I won't have any dangling cables coming out of the wall.
I've future proofed the HDMI cables and wall outlets too so when I finally jump in on 4K OLED, I'll be ready. Then I can move my older receiver to my bedroom and use the older def tech speakers from my old house in my bedroom.

What is the best option these days, for a streaming box? I would like it to support both 4k, and be able to mirror my computer without trouble.
By Zabojnik Go To PostMirror your computer? As in …?Think he means putting his computer on his TV without the use of a HDMI cable
By Freewheelin Go To PostThink he means putting his computer on his TV without the use of a HDMI cableWhat do you know about computers, Deano? Nothing, absolutely nothing. :*
Well, I haven't done it in a while, but you can use Nvidia Shield TV's game stream to 'mirror' your desktop quite easily. It also plays 4K HDR and laughs while doing it. GOAT streaming box, I wouldn't change it for anything other than a new Shield, for which there is absolutely no need.
Roku can handle nearly everything except Amazon content and has the best UI. Fire Sticks can play Amazon content but I'm not sure if they are limited by something else. Chromecast Ultra can play everything (including chrome browser tabs) except Amazon Video but has to be controlled via pc or phone.
I am unfamiliar with Nvidia shield but assume it works similarly to steam link? If so, you control it with a game controller and it just stands what you have on the pc.
I do not know about Apple TV.

It's meant for streaming PC games, but you can just add explorer.exe (or mstsc.exe and any other application) as one and you get the desktop directly.
I'm curious as to what Wooden's use case would be. Haven't really found one on the Shield, since it's android based and you can (side)load Chrome and pretty much any other app you want. I've even used it with Sopcast and AceStream. Kodi takes care of everything else.
By JesalR Go To PostShield TV is an android box too. Has pretty much every media app, acts as a Chromecast too.
Hrm. Might have to bin my steam link for one of these.
By Laboured Go To PostHrm. Might have to bin my steam link for one of these. It's been worth it for YouTube and Netflix alone for me. Everything is snappy as fuck on the Shield, compared to most TV build-in apps. Dat Tegra X1.
Hopefully Amazon Echo supports gets added to EU devices soon. It's a small thing, but I'd love to be able to say "Alexa, turn on / off Shield" and have all HT components light up / power down.

My bedroom TV is a Sony Android TV and it's so fucking slow in comparison.

apple tv is horrible without an apple device. we got that shit set up every class room in my school and my android is useless with it. Thanks for the run down, I might go for a roku
By Smokey Go To PostSounds like your timetable wasn't right
I didn't plan to hop on OLED until 2020 when I assumed HDMI 2.1 and VRR would be implemented. My time table was right. Actually a year earlier than expected with all of that showing up on the 2019 OLED range.
Randomly walked into Best Buy and they had a returned 65" B6 on the floor for about 1500. Had a LG rep run though tests and it was 👍. Bought right then and there. I actually paid more for my PG27UQ!
And no burn in or IR to this day
I did get the warranty though where burn in is covered. Might have to leave CNN on 247 and use that warranty to get into a 2019 model

He makes good points of why buy a 8k tv. Namely the upscaling chips in these TVs are top tier, so you're enhancing the picture of 4k content even further. Also mentions what 8k content looks like on a screen that size and it echoes howI felt when I saw it on demo. There's almost like a 3D like appearance to the picture. Shit looks clear af and you definitely notice the difference over 5k. Itd hard to really explain how good it looks, you just have to see it.
By reilo Go To PostBeen telling Smokey, but probably going to decide between a LG C8 (2019) and a Sony A8G later this year.
Dude ... my wife has been fighting me getting a new TV for years. I've been holding out with some of the new tech coming anyway, but now that we're almost done with the remodel she says to me, "Babe, do you think our bedroom TV is too small for the wall we're going to mount it on"
My eyes lit up. My heart skipped a beat. I couldn't hide my joy and my wife realized her folly almost immediately.
"Fuck yeah it's too small. Lets give that 10 year old LCD screen to your brother, move the 60" plasma to the bedroom and upgrade to 4K OLED in the main room! WHEW!"
Finished that video. It's a pretty good overview and doesn't get into the weeds too much. There's a bunch new stuff that is making my B6 look outdated. That WISA compatibility is something I didn't know about, along with eARC in HDMI 2.1
Next year is probably that time that I update. New consoles and some of these features that debuted in the 2019 models should be more developed. Will have to decide between Sony and LG though. That Sony processing is something else, but is usually hundreds more than the LG equivalent.

Yeah I'm still not likely to jump in until 2020, but man ... I have my window and will pursue with diligence.
By Laboured Go To PostThink my dicc just got hard.Looks like WiSA speakers have to be self-powered. So, you can't just use an adapter to somehow make your existing speakers compatible with the system. You would have to buy all new gear. That kinda sucks. :(
Oh man the WISA stuff. Allah yes.

Piggy backing on this, but unless you have a 15A residential receptacle near each speaker location, wireless will be a misnomer.
By Rob Go To PostJust popped into my head, are curved TVs still a thing or is that fad over?
Over. Thank God.
By Rob Go To PostJust popped into my head, are curved TVs still a thing or is that fad over?
It was never really a thing but they still exist.
Really wanting a 75"-77" screen now. 65" starting to seem too small from my distance now. Super used to it now. That and an Atmos compatible soundbar which typically run ~$1,500. They're more like combo receivers though. Can pass through HDR to the TV etc. I have 20' ceilings so it's not realistic to go full blown Atmos like I want rn.
Keeping an eye out on the Sony x950g. 75" cost about 3200. But it has the Sony X1 Ultimate processor . Leaning towards going with them either way in the future (high end LED or OLED) for their processing and LG has been pretty bad with the firmware .
