Just got Apple TV 4K. So far it seems nice, I wanted someplace that I could have all the streaming apps on and also Plex. It's snappy and quick as well which is important for me.

Yeah, really enjoying mine. Its the one stop spot for all non gaming entertainment in my living room.
By Lupercal Go To PostMost channels over here (BEL) are only pushing 720p, some do 1080p but it's relatively low.
So as long as those don't update, I can't see 8k making a big splash yet.
Damn, of course Belgium is even a little bit more behind ;)
By Linius Go To PostDamn, of course Belgium is even a little bit more behind ;)I think 10 % of our TV viewership still has the basic antenna connection :(
By Smokey Go To PostYeah, really enjoying mine. Its the one stop spot for all non gaming entertainment in my living room. And the setup just couldn't be easier. I just had to put my iPad on it and it downloaded the wifi password and icloud account. In some apps I just needed to start the equivalent app on my iPad and shake the thing around and it logs you in in the ATV as well. Pretty nifty.
However it's kind of cumbersome at times as well. When I want to watch a TV channel normally I just need to turn on the TV and a channel is on. With ATV I need to turn on the ATV, start the TV provider's app, go to the live TV tab and choose a channel.
It would be awesome if I could just go to the channel directly.

2019 OLEDs revealed
HDMI 2.1 (wow) , Variable Refresh Rate and a 8k offering brehs
HDMI 2.1 is the headlining feature. Increased bandwidth now allows for up to 4K at 120 frames per second – also referred to as High Frame Rate (HFR) – inputs via HDMI. Last year’s models also supported HFR but only via streaming input.
Speaking of motion, LG confirms that the 2019 OLED models will support HDMI VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), which was first implemented in Samsung TVs and Xbox One S / X last year. It is an adaptive frame rate system that matches frame rate between console and TV in real-time for smoother gaming performance with lower lag. The TVs also support HDMI ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode) that automatically switches to the TV’s game mode whenever you load up a game on your Xbox One console. PlayStation 4 does not support VRR and ALLM at this time.
Outside of VRR, the TVs will deliver 13 ms input lag (in 1080p and 4K HDR), LG tells FlatpanelsHD. This is probably the lowest input lag on a TV today, depending on what competitors have achieved this year. Lastly, LG said that all calibration settings are now available in the Game picture mode and that a new Game setting can be engaged for all picture modes in the TVs.
Shit got real
that's some good shit
let's hope it extends into the pc space with some lower prices and screen sizes :v

By Smokey Go To PostAnd there’s your 88” oled Dipro. Only offered in 8k
Bought.
Yeah sorry, should've specified it's the LG OLED. The only problem so far is that it's even more clear what a bad quality HBO has on it's streaming... I wonder if this is even 720p.
By rossonero Go To PostThe C8 is such a great set. I have no idea how I survived this long without 4k and HDR.
Yup, great set.
What type of 4K content are you feeding it?
By Smokey Go To PostYup, great set.Only streaming Netflix and Prime so far.

Now I havve started to look for defects, grey uniformity more specifically. Don't know why though, since I'm super satisfied so far.

TCL will be selling 8k Roku TVs later this year

8k is here lads
And higher end TCL models will be getting quantum dot tech and more dimming zone, and the 6 series will now be available at 75" for only 1800.

By Freewheelin Go To PostHoly shit
TCL are pretty much the budget TV kings atm right?
Yes. And Roku is considered to be the best built in streaming service.
This changes the game. I didn't expect them to jump on the 8k train. I was already on #Team2020 for a new TV. May need to push that back a year or two. As nice as the 2019 OLED features are, I fill like we're about to be at that 720p/1080p tipping point again. Yes there's not 8k programming right now etc etc.
But TCL getting in the 8k game this year is huge.
Probably going to do 2019 for gaming tv and 2021 for living room tv upgrades. I don't need 8k on the gaming tv yet.
I'm really looking forward to having the new NAD M10 in the store. An 'affordable' product from their master series (gonna be 2499 dollars) and comes packed with features. Amongst them fully bluos integrated and the complete Dirac room correction. Especially the last one is a big thing, Dirac works extremely well and I've never seen it included with a stereo amp before. Smooth design with the big TFT screen too. And a fucking HDMI input on a stereo amp, quite neat. Can't wait to hear it.
If it's interesting enough I might consider selling my C368 and seperate Node 2i for this package. Would need a new phono pre-amp though because the lack of phono in on this thing.

Can back linius up on how awesome Dirac is. I use it on a mini dsp ddrc-24, though, so it's not the full version and it's also limited to stereo, but hey. Only around $500 after including the calibrated mic price.!
When looking up the link for the ddrc-24 (https://www.minidsp.com/products/dirac-series/ddrc-24), I found they created a new accessory to allow for Alexa and wifi control of the device: https://www.minidsp.com/products/accessories/wi-dg

I think I'm stepping up to the E line on my next set. The screen on glass looks is gorgeous.

One of these days I'll get into room correction software.
By reilo Go To PostAnything newsworthy I should look at for Tvs?
I'm assuming OLED?
If so go up a few posts to my post about the 2019 OLEDs from flatpanel. The 2019s will be 120hz, have VRR, 13ms response time, and have HDMI 2.1 (so far the only TVs to have it).
By Smokey Go To PostTCL will be selling 8k Roku TVs later this yearI put off getting a 55 inch TCL until I saw some of the 2019 changes. Should be interesting to see.

By Smokey Go To PostIt’s still a LED. You can still see the blooming.Well, as a PG27UQ owner you would know all about that, innit. I'll take 'indiscernible glow' over what conventional LCDs produce.

I don't have a choice for monitors (led). I do when it comes to the living room
By Doncicic Go To Postoled monitor sound like a nightmare though.
i mean i got burn in on a tv i barely used.
My OLED was a floor model for a week. I don't have any burn in, and on a grey screen, no IR either

I didn't plan to hop on OLED until 2020 when I assumed HDMI 2.1 and VRR would be implemented. My time table was right. Actually a year earlier than expected with all of that showing up on the 2019 OLED range.
Randomly walked into Best Buy and they had a returned 65" B6 on the floor for about 1500. Had a LG rep run though tests and it was 👍. Bought right then and there. I actually paid more for my PG27UQ!
And no burn in or IR to this day
I did get the warranty though where burn in is covered. Might have to leave CNN on 247 and use that warranty to get into a 2019 model
