By Linius Go To PostAmerica is just cheap when it comes to TV’s. Earlier on this page someone mentioned an LG C8 65inch for 1900. That’s at least 3500 in Europe. With a good deal you might find it at 3000 but that’s about the best it would get.
actually that was me and i can order it right now for 1800 merkels and i live in europe.
amazon germany has the tv for 2200 merkels.
2289 euros I see yeah. That's crazy. In The Netherlands every dealer is on 3500 euros currently. That's way too big of a difference for the same TV in neighbouring countries.
black friday one place had it for roughly 1600 euros.
consumer electronics is pretty much the only stuff that's cheap(er) here than in the EU

Social security doesn't pay itself m8s. I'd rather have free medicare than cheap 4k tvs. The human eye can't perceive the difference anyway.

I know this is all in Korean, but he it has all the fancy jargon in English.
Can someone tell me if this is ok.
Almost half the price of LG and Samsung tvs.

By Shanks D Zoro Go To Posthttp://mg.gmarket.co.kr/ItemDetail?GoodsCode=1274221996&GdscCode=300010609Looks like your average entry-to-midrange 4K TV. It's got Ambilight going for itself, if that's something you might enjoy. Only one HDMI input supports HDCP 2.2 tho, so that might be a nuisance, if you're not using an AV receiver. HDR is garbage-tier on this set, so best forget about it. Input lag of 31ms in gaming mode, which is not amazing, but still pretty good. All in all a solid set for the price.

Doesn't help that Philips doesn't make them anymore. It's just the logo basically. Philips is going nuts over medical tech and lights these days. All consumer electronics are branched out. Some Chinese manufacturer owns their TV branch and they pay a small percentage (2,2%) to Philips to still use the name.
To be honest, in today's market I'd probably stick to Samsung and LG. Or the high end Sony stuff.

I would go Sony, but they don’t sell TVs in Korea.
Thanks for the info guys. I will continue to look around for a Samsung/ LG near that price. If not, then I will just buy that one.

Went back to Best Buy for something unrelated with my wife. Showed her the 8k tv...
I'll say that 8k might be the end game for a while. It's hard to describe but the picture is incredibly clear at that size. You feel like you're right in front of whatever you're looking at. My wife said the same thing. It's a weird sensation lol.

I remember reading somewhere that 8k was always the goal. You really have to see it in person. There's a noticeable jump even from 4k. Granted this is at 85".
By Laboured Go To PostShow me an actual wide range of natively authored content tho.
It is known. Ijs.
That TV also has all kinds of tech going on. Deep Learning algorithms to upscale to 8k and a bunch of other wizardry shit.
We have the Q900R in our store, a 65 inch that is. Going at 5000 euros at the moment. Despite the lack of native content it does look impressive. But I honestly don't feel like it's that much better than 4K with the current content to justiy the steep price. Obviously this kind of tech is only meant for the "I don't care about money" kind of early adopter that just wants the best current tech out there. Besides the lack of content it's also quite a bulky TV again. They probably crammed a lot of shit in it compared to the much slimmer Qled models.
In The Netherlands especially 8K doesn't make a lot of sense to people. Our TV providers only just started rolling out 4K TV decoders to their customers. And even then there are hardly any TV channels with 4K programming over here. Mainly international stuff like the BBC and Discovery Channel.

They aren't selling anything besides the 85" here iirc. But 5000 for a 65" 8k TV?
That'd be really tempting if I was already looking at high end LEDs and OLEDs.

oh. well then.
a quick look at best buy
Sony Master Series
Z9F LED (75") - 5999
A9F OLED (65") - 4500
LG
C8 OLED (77'') - 6999
8K would start making sense, if and when Samsung's microLED wall tiles become a reality. We'll get there in the next decade, no doubt.
By Doncicic Go To Postany good 80"+ oled dropping in 2019 smokey?
edit: i guess we'll see at CES in january.
LGs new OLED manufacturing factory comes online next year (i think). That will allow for more variation in the cut sizes for OLED screens. We should see upper 40'' and 80'' range OLEDs in 2020 is my guess.
The 85 inch version of the Q900R is 15.000 euros over here. You can buy a decent car for that price.
We still have stores selling Sony TVs in Malaysia.
2 of my last 3 TVs have been Sony. I can't complain about anything because both have been pretty, pretty good on all fronts.
The other was an LG that I got as a wedding present. It broke down a week after using it.

Seems like the only LG TVs worth buying are the OLEDs, and maybe their high end LEDs? I certainly wouldn't of went with a LG if they weren't the ones responsible for this iteration of OLED. And every company that makes OLEDs at the moment gets their screens from LG, until maybe Samsung comes out with the RGB OLED their rumored to be working on.
My manager brought a old brochure from Samsung to work the other day. From that one year where they had a curved OLED themselves. Quite funny to read Samsung PR material about OLED considering today's market.
And yeah, at my store we only brought in LG because of OLED. And these are the only models we sell, we don't have the rest of their line-up.

RGB OLED is superior to the wOLED that LG is putting out, but the yields on the RGB version were terrible when going from phone size screens to late TV screens. Looks like they're getting back into OLED next year though, which is great.

I'm gonna be able to get this through my company for $175 a speaker

Pretty nice discount. Since I'm redoing my walls it will be easy to run speaker wire for a clean install too. Just gonna do a 5.1 setup. The room isn't too large so I don't need a 7.1 setup. I may poke a hole in the exterior wall and run some speaker wire in conduit for some external speakers on the back patio for some the summer.

My girl has a membership to a private bar, we went for lunch, and they had a couple of 77" (I'm guessing) LG OLED screens hung. Thos things are outrageously big, and stunning too. Getting to the tipping point where projectors just don't provide enough of a size advantage to balance how much better the TVs look.
I wasn't expecting the screen to be that large though. Never thought I'd consider a screen too big for any of my rooms, but that would dominate in way I wouldn't really like.

https://www.whathifi.com/news/lg-teases-2019-4k-oled-tv-specs-ahead-of-ces
The a9 2nd-gen (interesting that the company hasn't gone with "a10") allegedly brings ‘images that are more true-to-life than ever’ with its core four-step noise reduction process, which uses an algorithm that allows for more involved noise-reduction.
Thanks to improved mapping and colour correction algorithms, LG is also claiming advancements in sharpness, contrast and colour reproduction - gains that could be necessary to keep it above Samsung’s ever-improving rival QLED TVs.
The α9 2nd-gen will offer High Frame Rates (HFR) up to 4K/120fps, although that doesn’t improve on the capabilities of the a9 processor in this year’s sets. What may be the difference here, however, is the 2019 OLEDs' improved HDMI spec, which we expect to be HDMI 2.1.
LG's 2018 models only meet the HDMI 2.0 standard, but to get 4K, HFR and HDR over HDMI you need HDMI 2.1. So, that considered, 2019 OLEDs should be able to play HFR/120fps content from HDMI sources when and if that becomes more of a ‘thing’.
So will all of LG's 2019 OLEDs benefit from the new processor? Going from previous line-ups, it's not likely. While LG’s current (2018) C8, E8, G8 and W8 OLEDs all use the brand’s original Alpha 9 picture processor, its entry-level B8 OLED TVs make do with LG's Alpha 7 processor from 2017.

What does “worth it” mean? Content wise?
There was the same line of thinking during the HD transition. Full HD is good enough for most people, but there’s a nice jump to 4K.
