By Dazenheimer Go To Postlads, I've got the itch for a 77" LG G1
Hold
Either get one of the newer OLEDs (MLA panel) that are much brighter aka the G3 or go QD-OLED.
By reilo Go To PostGive it to me straight, how high do they have television mounted?

By reilo Go To PostI know the pain. At least they’ve stopped having the remote in the plastic bag.

haha i stopped doing that because they don't notice and if i point it out they either don't care or i'm now the guy who has to fix it for them and i will be blamed for anything that goes wrong with the tv for the next 10 years.
Have a weird issue where my PS5 doesn't work with my LG C9 and HDR if I am running it through my Sony STRDH790 A/V receiver. It says HDR in 4k is not supported. Had to connect it directly to the C9 to get HDR, but thankfully with eARC it still funnels audio to my receiver so it's not an issue.
What’s new in OLED TVs?
I’m looking to upgrade to a 77 inch for the living room, the B2 at £2400 seems pretty reasonable. I’m assuming the B3 will be at a similar price by the time I’m looking to buy.
G series is sadly out of my price range. C series, affordable at 65 inch but I’m replacing a 75 inch LED TV and I don’t want to go down in size.

To my surprise when I saw it earlier, yes. On Amazon currently
Jesus. I bought an $800 75" Roku QLED that was delivered today and y'all fuckers are dropping sy's annual salary on sets.

Getting an urge to replace the CX. LG G3 and it's tech that allows it to get much brighter has me intrigued and itching. Just checked and I bought the Best Buy 5 year protection plan on my TV...so maybe I ride it out until then or intentionally go for burn in for a replacement 🤔
e- 77 G3 is currently $3,500 . Same price I paid for the CX 🤔

Looks like the lads are starting to get the itch.
Think I'm fine with my 65" CX for now, until we start seeing some bigger jumps in the tech.

The Micro Lens Array tech in the G3 I feel like the endgame for wOLED. Saw it mentioned somewhere else, but it feels like the equivalent of the Kuro line back with Pioneer and plasma.
By Kidjr Go To PostI'm never upgrading my g1. Tv cannot get better than this.
i feel you
but it already has 😭
Brought my LG UHD player out, and hooked it up last weekend. Had way more movies than I thought. Been a long time since I watched a UHD disc, but the PQ and sound quality was so much better than streaming. Went on a buying spree and bought some UHDs before Best Buy pulls out:
Oppenheimer (took weeks to get it from Amazon due to the demand/sold out)
Avatar 2
Spiderman Across Spiderverse Steelbook
John Wick 4 (now have all 4 on UHD)
Mission Impossible DR

It's taking fucking forever (like an hour per disc) but only have to do it once! hopefully. need to get some off-site storage in case the house burns down or I have a catastrophic failure in my NAS

so let me get this straight, if i manage to buy an apartment in 2024*, and need a new oled, the lg g-series is the one to go for?

By Laboured Go To PostWhat kind of file size on average?Blade Runner 2049 is our only UHD/4k disc and it is ~80 GB.
Standard HD/1080p discs are 15-20 GB.
Haven't really ripped any DVD's (saving them for last), but they are probably around 4-5 GB.

How many have you done, and yeah, what's the average file size?

I would say it or a QD-OLED. I wouldn't buy a standard wOLED panel at this point.
By Smokey Go To PostHow many have you done, and yeah, what's the average file size?In my previous post, I listed the file size of the one UHD disc and the average of the ~100 HD discs I have ripped. We also have a bunch of TV shows ripped.
According to Plex, I have 3.1 TB of UHD and HD movies (123 total) and extras of various quality. Total playtime would be ~1 week and 3 days.
We have 32 different TV shoes of various HD and DVD quality. ~2 months and 2 weeks of playtime for 1.5 TB of storage.
Plex also has some overhead with generated thumbnails and other things (and I have other things on the NAS), but I am sitting at ~5.5 TB used. I am using 2 pairs of mirrored 20 TB drives for 36.25 TB available storage, so it is only 15% full. If I fill my NAS out with more drives in the same way, I can get up to 108.75 TB of storage. Way more than I would need.
Oh, I am saving some number of gigs by only keeping audio for the native language of the movie and English. Multiple audio tracks are huge. Even on a normal HD BluRay, they can be multiple GBs.
My entirely legal uhd rips are also about 70GB, movie dependent
I really wish the Apple TV could handle truehd audio, because there shield TV is showing it’s age and the UI is covered in ads

So while last year brought pretty major technical upgrades, for 2024, LG is shifting its focus to AI and smaller, iterative changes. But the improvements are still meaningful. Across the OLED TV lineup, LG now supports variable refresh rates up to 144Hz (up from 120Hz), which will be welcome news for PC gamers. The new G4 series brings the company’s Micro Lens Array technology, the secret sauce behind the G3’s significantly brighter picture, to a larger 83-inch screen size for the first time. Meanwhile, the 2024 OLED M line is adding a smaller 65-inch model for those who want the fancy wireless tech in a more modest size..
By reilo Go To Post.So I'll be fine with my 55" C8 one more year. I'll probably change when a bigger size is needed or when MLA comes to the C line.
77-85 is the probably the upper Kim of what my flat can handle without my guests needing to take eye drops.
By Laboured Go To PostInteresting.
✅ 4000 nit peak brightness
✅ Smaller nodes for better accuracy
✅ Smaller nodes for better local dimming control
✅ Less power consumption ✅

Surprising, but maybe it goes bright enough that we can finally get good BFI
Still would be hard to give up pitch blacks

I'm a little more never-stutter though. I love my C9, but really struggle with certain content. The artefacts caused by even the smallest anti-judder settings are really annoying too though
i wanted a sony tv for my next tv just because it uses android, which allows me to use certain apps that are not available on other TV OS
You people made me check the prices on BestBuy.com. Yeah, Sony is expensive compared to LG. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/tv-deals?cp=2&qp=brand_facet%3DBrand~LG%5Ebrand_facet%3DBrand~Sony&sp=-currentprice%20skuidsaas
