Need to see how it compares to the qd-OLEDs. I really want to move to a 2023 Sony model if the new mediatek chip gets implemented.

At CES 2023, the company announced it would offer 50-, 63-, 76-, 89-, 101-, 114- and 140-inch MicroLED models, greatly expanding the amount of choice consumers have when it comes to the new display technology. Samsung didn't provide pricing and availability information for the expanded line, but the company claims the new models are its most affordable MicroLED TVs to date.
Samsung claims its MicroLED line will set the standard for picture quality in 2023. And judging from the 76-inch model's topline features, that's not a mere boast from the company. The set sports a 240Hz variable refresh rate and 2-nanosecond response time. It also offers 20-bit black detail for "intense" contrast.
It's crazy how it's been almost 4 years since the LG C9 launched with 4 full 48gbps hdmi 2.1 ports and all the bells and whistles you could possibly want and most of the other manufacturers still haven't figured this shit out.
C9 gonna go down in history as one of the goat TVs, no doubt.

By reilo Go To PostThe only reason I would even consider upgrading in the near future from my C9 is for QMS.QMS is a very welcome addition to be sure, although the way I'm utilizing my TV - that is 99% of the time running native apps and now with no PS5, which was the only thing that required input/resolution/framerate switching - I don't think I'd get much use from it. Unless there are other benefits?
Would love to have it on my incoming 42" C2 in PC monitor mode tho.
AppleTV unfortunately handshakes a lot between HDR and non-HDR eventhough the content I'm about to watch is HDR.
Finally got an Oled, and sized up from 55’ to 65’. Such an improvement for watching movies in the dark. Blade Runner 2049 was very cummy. FALD did a decent job on my Bravia but there’s no comparison.
Like the Samsung S95C it will compete against, the A95L comes in 77-inch, 65-inch, and 55-inch sizes. That means it’s certainly using the same second-generation Samsung Display QD-OLED panel that promises up to 200 percent better peak brightness when compared to the previous A95K. And the big benefit of QD-OLED is that the brightness ramp also applies to color luminosity. This is the year that high-end OLEDs will finally be right at home in bright rooms.https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/1/23619895/sony-2023-tv-lineup-bravia-xr-features
But Sony is still making premium Mini LED sets as well. Despite having a lower number in the name, the new X93L Mini LED TV replaces 2022’s X95K model. Sony describes it as very similar in overall performance. It’ll come in 85-, 77-, and 65-inch sizes. And now, the company is adding a second Mini LED set above it with approximately 20 percent more local dimming zones to reduce any perceptible blooming. But that model, the X95L, will only be made available in an 85-inch version.
I think my next upgrade would need to be whenever the figure out the sample and hold judder. It’s the only thing I dislike about my C9, makes bright panning really annoying.
That and a 77 incher

Other than CRTs, what screen tech doesn't use sample and hold (and the issues inherent with it)?
By JesalR Go To PostI think my next upgrade would need to be whenever the figure out the sample and hold judder. It’s the only thing I dislike about my C9, makes bright panning really annoying. Is there a way to watch 24 fps videos at 120hz on that TV? Maybe with vsync off and vrr on? Those settings, if they exist, may largely address the judder. Otherwise, you may be waiting for display tech to get off the lcd-family-tree. Which doesn't appear to even be on the horizon.
That and a 77 incher
You'd want a high enough max refresh rate and a bright enough panel to allow BFI to reduce the judder. Not sure if we'll get there soon, but I can hope.
That's a bummer. Looks like the tech is just too new and it'll be a few years. And as per usual, TV manufacturers just lie about the capabilities.
Supposedly the Era 300s as surrounds are great on a Sonos setup. Too bad I'm not Slaent Elite enough to pay $900 for to surrounds
By DiPro Go To Postdid the samsung and sonys overtake LG in the TV game?Depends on your usage, pure picture quality I think Sony is and has been ahead for a while, LG make the better TV for games and the brightness on their new panels is closer to QD-OLED seemingly. Colour wise it's further behind thigh
i was just surprised that rtings has the samsung oled as best tv and sony runner up. i'm used to LG dominating.

I’m thinking of getting these next month. My One SLs are nice, but I don’t feel I get enough of the “Atmos effect” from them.

Ehh
For PQ Sonys processing always been ahead. The new panels in the LG G3 though are supposed to be super nice.
From Rtings first gen QD-OLED tech showed some nasty burn in compared to the latest wOLED panels used by LG.
Are you a stander or a mounter?
I don't trust my cardboard new build walls to hold a TV bigger than 42".

"Why's your TV off to the side?"
By reilo Go To PostThat limits how you want to interior decorate and it sucksThe key there is getting a giant TV and a mount that allows side-to-side repositioning. 😈

We had to do similar for the 55" TV in our office.

aren't you supposed to put big tvs basically on the ground anyway? no need for mounting when i put a lowboard underneath.
I think my preference is to have them eye level with how I sit on the couch anyway so mounting them just above the credenza and then run cabling through the walls seems too much
By DiPro Go To Postaren't you supposed to put big tvs basically on the ground anyway? no need for mounting when i put a lowboard underneath.yeah, also neck strain.
I have a big'ish tv and its about 20 inches from the ground.
Eye-level.

20 inches is almost too high for me imo.
think my lowboard is 32 cm and then maybe 5-6 cm higher with the stand..
By reilo Go To PostGross KibnerThe mount can't be seen because the TV is large enough to block it. 🤷
The only reason I want to mount is to get the TV flush to the wall. That LG stand is chunky in the back
By JesalR Go To PostThe only reason I want to mount is to get the TV flush to the wall. That LG stand is chunky in the backThe anxiety of mounting the panel onto that stand is absurd
We moved on Saturday and had to wrap that panel about 10 layers deep in bubble wrap, fucking terrifying. Thankfully was insured by the moving company, so if they did fuck it, it’s be C3 time for Jesal
Still enjoying the fuck out of my G1 man. I honestly don't know when I see myself upgrading. The 4k content is unreal

Don’t know if it matters to anyone but hdmi over fiber has been tested and verified that it doesn’t add any lag over a normal hdmi cable. So, they seem like a worry free solution to extremely long cable runs.
The worry was that the conversion at both ends would cause lag but even “cheap fiber cables don’t have that issue.
