You’re up in here spouting old wives tales. Gonna ask if my eyes are square next? Where’s the concern for Wooden playing CS like this?
By HonestVapes Go To PostWith how close I sit, my 55 inch easily feels as big as a 70 inch.70 inch is so much more massive at 62% more screen.
By HonestVapes Go To PostSo I should sit 62% closer is what you’re sayingOk
By batong_nr1_rangers_fan Go To PostOh man, used to love my Panasonic plasma. Pan gud again?Always have been. Best OLEDs if you only care about films/shows watching. They've been using heatsink'd master panels in their top of the line series (with sensational processing) before Sony even knew what those were.
How are all these topline TVs that are not LGs still skimping on HDMI 2.1 ports? Offer 4 of them you cheap bastards.
By DerZuhälter Go To PostHow are all these topline TVs that are not LGs still skimping on HDMI 2.1 ports? Offer 4 of them you cheap bastards.Bean counters deciding that the cost savings from cutting down those ports > lost sales from the fact, which they probably determine to be marginal.
Besides, Sony don’t really want their costumers to get ideas and connect yet another HDMI 2.1 device innit. PS5 + audio via eARC. Nothing else.
By sy Go To PostLG body bagged“The LG G1 is arguably the best gaming TV you can buy with the C1 not far behind it”.
Seems like it.
Yeah on a CX I just use the Plex app. I can stream across 4K HDR movies on it with up to 7.1 sound. However it can't quite handle 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos for some reason.
Shield TV (2019) is probably the most compatible, as it does Dolby Vision and Atmos.
Most if not all TV apps can't do lossless Atmos, which is why Horse has struggles

Plex never clicked with me and i haven't found the perfect app for the CX so i was looking into buying a dedicated player. i have a ATV4k somewhere but don't like using it.

I used to use Plex since when it was still a Mac exclusive, it was great stuff but required some maintenance and backoffice. Was proud of my library tbh. Eventually with the streaming services I dropped it, and when I need to watch something from the distros I just use VLC or Infuse.
Have been considering a return to Plex though...
I always have syncing and playback issues with plex.
I guess it knows I'm not paying and therefore giving me the pleb treatment.

plex is godlike, I used to have some issues with their apps, but since switching to chromecast it has been super smooth. I get by with the free features and never really felt the need to upgrade.
I need to give it another shot then but it was super buggy last time i used it and playback was never smooth/sound issues.
Used to have a Mac mini running 24/7 as a fileserver, FTP server, torrent, VNC etc. It was both plex media server and player, since it was hooked to the TV.
This was after I experimented with FreeNAS and an old PC, it was cool but a headache to maintain.
Always found dedicated NAS’s to be a tad too pricey for what I could do with them.

By Lunatic Go To PostNever had any issues with Plex. Bought the lifetime subscription and never looked back.I also have the lifetime sub and it has gotten close to paying for itself with the savings I get on my Tidal sub that they partner with. My server is an Intel NUC with an external drive, though I want to build a true media server with multiple 16TB drives to store all our movies, music, general network storage, and cache all our downloads. That will cost me a couple grand to build, though, and I'm not in a hurry to do it right now.
E: my NUC also runs Pi-hole and hosts our Foundry VTT instance and a Samba network storage instance.

Paying monthly for now, but I guess it's time for that lifetime sub.

DV or DA?
I love the idea of a htpc and messing around with it but it's so not worth it when you can just buy a shield and have a better experience.
By DiPro Go To PostI love the idea of a htpc and messing around with it but it's so not worth it when you can just buy a shield and have a better experience. The real play is to have a media server sitting in a closet somewhere and using a Shield or whatever to stream nearly lossless video and audio to all your devices inside or outside your house.
By LabouredPatriot Go To PostDV or DA?Well, both I guess, my receiver takes care of DA (downmixing it for my 3.1 setup) via eARC.
By Kibner Go To PostThe real play is to have a media server sitting in a closet somewhere and using a Shield or whatever to stream nearly lossless video and audio to all your devices inside or outside your house. It’s great but if that closet can be under the TV and the media server can simultaneously be the media player for that TV, well in then. Can also triple up for games. Just need to fiddle a bit to get that ideal interface (whereas a dedicated media player is usually plug & play).
Runs very well on the C9, I imagine it's about the same on a CX. Sluggishness was one of my main worries coming from a Shield TV and I've been pleasantly surprised. Menus are responsive, video skipping usually takes just a couple of seconds even with 4K HDR material. It's not quite as near-instantaneous with everything as my Shield TV was, but considering it's running on a smart TV ... there's not much to complain about.
By DiPro Go To PostI like 60fps and even I have to admit it takes a while getting used to.
Same but some scenes were so wild. The tracer billets and sparks and shit flying around in the end lol wild
By Fenderputty Go To PostGemini man in 4K BD is wild goodI remember watching this in theaters in 3D. I felt like I was on set
I mean the movie is meh but the visuals and audio are great
Shame it wasn’t a better movie though
