CX is on the way already. I went with the free delivery, I was expecting to get it towards the end of next week.
I went with the Club3D DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter to hook it up with my 2080Ti. It seems to have some issues, like a lack of VRR support, but it's otherwise the only way to get 4K/120hz/4:4:4 out of the CX with older GPUs. Won't be getting it till later on in the day either, CX will be here within the hour. If anyone's interested in that adapter, I'll throw my impressions of it up after some use.

In other news, my Denon has been fixed and is on its way. Apparently it was the HDMI board that died and had to be replaced, not the transformer.
Oh shit, I can just run 4:2:0 chroma and get 4K/120hz with my 2080Ti.
Returning that Club3D adapter asap.
Got it set up already. Sort of, using the included stand and just have it pushed back as far as it’ll go on my desk. I’ll probably wall mount it next weekend.
Thus far, played some Hades on it and it looked fantastic. Then I got kicked off my own PC by my girlfriend so she could play Fortnite on it.

By /sy Go To Postwelcome to hdr gangBeen HDR gang since 2018.
Maybe it’s because of Dolby Vision, but HDR on this OLED is just worlds better than HDR10 on the Acer X27. I now fully understand what Wooden means when he calls something cummy.

It's HDR in general vs a LED even with local dimming zones. Our X27/PG27UQ is brighter, and some people prefer that, but the overall HDR PQ on OLED easily surpasses it. To me at least. Others prefer the searing brightness you can get from HDR highlights on a high end LED panel.
It's kinda hard watching proper content with better colors and true blacks on an OLED and then use an LCD panel where everything looks washed out.
I don't know why some people prefer their PQ to look like a plantation themed wedding.

I feel like HDR only really popped with light sources in the scene on the X27. Like the sun, or neon tubes, head/brake lights, explosions, etc. it looked good but at times it was also uncomfortably bright without tuning the peak whiteness down, which also took some of that pop away from the image.
Just watching some Dolby Vision cooking shows on Netflix with the CX, light sources still pop but the vibrancy of colours, the black levels, etc. the whole image is just massively better.

By Blue Go To PostCX still the goat after CES. I knew I should have got the 77”” over the 65””.
Seems like there's not a big difference between the C1 and CX.
The G series and the evo panel though....but even that seems to be in sort of a "test phase" as you can't get it in the new, bigger screen size.
Bought a CX today after swearing I wouldn’t get another one after dealing with my c7. I was thinking of going for an a8h but the 65 being sub 2k Bidens vs (2500) today was too much.

I'm looking to move soon and I'm looking for a new TV. But it looks like I was on the right path all along. An LG 55CX it will be then.

What was wrong with your c7?
So what’s the deal with firmware updates for the CX? I’ve checked a few times via the menu and says none are available, but I know one was recently released.
Is it generally best/easier to download updates via the LG website and stick it on a USB drive?

By Smokey Go To PostWhat was wrong with your c7?Has a few things wrong. It has a weird box in the middle on red tints that rtings came across during their burn in test that they say is some factory issue that LG would fix even after warranty (they won’t) I have some burn in some of it looks like it is from cnn which is odd since outside of election week I never watch and then a Disney junior logo. Which they do watch quite a bit but I don’t think it would be that bad after 2.5 years and pretty varied viewing. Also there is some weird distortion in the middle of the screen that from research appears to be from excessive heat. Luckily most of it isn’t super noticeable on usual viewing outside but if my kids watch cartoons or certain commercials come on it is much more noticeable.
The C8 and beyond is when the burn in protection really improved iirc.
I guess what LG covers is ymmv...I've heard good things even for those outside if warranty. I never leave it up to the manufacturer though, I get the warranties directly from the store.
Had enough fukkery dealing directly with manufacturers of PC equipment when I ran into issues, can't imagine having to go through that mess on a multi thousand dollar purchase.

Yeah I think I got a bad panel. I do think Best Buy’s warranty is a must since it specifically covers burn in.
Yeah, I think they do the rolling pushes so they don't have to deal with a bunch of service requests all at once in case things go wrong. Keep those waves of complaints manageable.

A part of me wishes I waited like two days before ordering my CX so I could’ve got the 48 inch for £1280, another part of me is kinda glad I went with the 55 because of how absurd it looks on my desk.
UK price for the 48” is crazy.
Over here it can be had on the regular for 1200 euro, which is about 1070 GBP.

You put the 55'' on your desk? I thought you got the 48''. RIP your eyes? lol
Started TLOU2 last night. Directional creepy clicker and runner noises ... wow. Im playing on hard but intentionally avoiding the “listen” function and just using my surround sound to help. Wildly engrossing
By Smokey Go To PostYou put the 55'' on your desk? I thought you got the 48''. RIP your eyes? lolWhat can I say? The SFF life ain’t for me anymore.
But yeah, with the 48 inch being more expensive I couldn’t justify paying more for less screen size. I loosely measured up the space on my desk back in November to make sure the 55 inch would fit and rolled with it.
My desk is 3 meters long by the way, not sure if you caught the pics last year in the PC thread, but I got a large slab of kitchen countertop and laid it over 4 half height bookcases. It was a 50/50 split for space on the desk between me and my girlfriend, was.
Playing games on it fairly close up is honestly fucking surreal, in a good way. Between the size of screen, the 120hz and the overall PQ. I’ve never had this type of experience before. Incredible.
Using it as actual monitor, being limited to 4:2:0 chroma is pretty annoying for text depending on the size and the background colour. Not a deal breaker for me personally, but definitely not ideal. I’d pinned my hopes on the CAC-1085 DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter working for me, but I’m getting better results just sticking with a regular HDMI cable so far.
