By Zabojnik Go To PostOne of the HDMI inputs on your TV will have ARC/eARC written on it. That's generally where you want to plug in your receiver. What it does is it allows any devices you have connected to the other HDMI ports on your TV to pass the audio to your receiver via the ARC/eARC enabled HDMI port. Thanks, Zabo
Why not simply plug your blu-ray player and console to the receiver, why go through the TV, you ask.
Say you have a PS5 and a receiver that features ARC/eARC, but doesn't support HDMI 2.1, meaning it won't output 4K 120hz VRR HDR to your C9/CX OLED. What you do in this case is plug your PS5 directly into your TV to get that sweet 4K 120hz HDR VRR video, meanwhile the audio gets routed to your receiver via ARC/eARC. Preferably eARC (enhanced ARC), as it has enough bandwidth for uncompressed surround, unlike ARC.
I guess you need a receiver to get the most of out it?
A receiver and some nice speakers goes a long way yes. You’re in the UK right daz? Just go to your local richer sounds or seven oaks and have an employee walk you trough it and demo you some sound. That will give you a better idea of what’s possible and what to expect at what price point.
tlou II at 4k is something else. Just give me 60fps for better motion quality and it's the best looking next gen title.
no spoilers but hilcrest is a bitch even on normal mode

Yeah so at this rate I don’t think I’ll be getting the CX 55 from Currys. Spoke to them on the phone 3 times, spoke to livechat, went full Karen at them on Twitter.
Ordered it on the 26th, scheduled delivery for the 2nd. Got an email on the 1st saying there was an issue with it, but I had to call to find out what the issue was.
1st rep told me it was a payment issue. It wasn’t as the money had already left my account.
2nd rep said they were out of stock and that I’d receive an updated dispatch email within a day. Never received one and it has stayed in stock on the website every day since I ordered.
3rd rep (live chat) straight up told me I had to reorder the item, despite not receiving any formal cancellation notice or refund.
4th rep said the same as the second, and explicitly told me I would get an email the following day to update me on the delivery. The following day was yesterday and I received no email.
On the Twitter side of things, I sent them my details in a DM when prompted, days passed with no reply. Have only received apologies and all that standard CS babble each time I’ve publicly tweeted about how poor the service is from them.
I could cancel or issue a charge-back now, but then I’d need to buy it elsewhere and pay more since the sales have ended on them. At this point, figure I may as well just cancel and accept paying a £100 or so more for it to just be done with this bullshit and live that OLED life.

Started watching the first move from The Hobbit UHD Collection set. Still waiting on LOTR to come in. Wife is a huge LOTR fans and have seen this movies countless times, and she couldn't stop talking about how good it looked.
I agree. The HDR is pretty famn gud. OLED + this screen size...gets me everytime we watch a movie

By Linius Go To PostDenon 316 or 216 maybe? One is with subwoofer and the other is without. At this pricepoint a pretty good product.
Thanks Linius! Ever had the opportunity to listen to the Yamaha YAS 209? It's in a similar price bracket and I'm finding a lot more reviews for it than for the Denon 316.
sorry for your hassle, vapes. Currys is only there for you to see the TV instore and ask questions, so you can go order it somewhere else.

Can’t say I have, we don’t sell Yamaha. From the Denon I know it’s a reliable product that sounds alright for the price. Don’t think I’ve ever gotten one back since it doesn’t have any smart stuff or anything. So it basically always works and does the job.
Imma be on the lookout for a 77” CX deal . The 65” is too small for my poor eyes playing split screen. I hadn’t considered the shared screen before. Plus split screen games tend to have black bars and tiny letters, can’t read that.
The Panasonic DP-UB9000 is a great buy. The additional HDR settings for 4k films is a must. Blows away the PS5 and Xbox Series X playback ability, which is should at this price point.
Discussed a little in the launch thread, but man, sackboys sounds fucking bitchen on my home set up. It’s kinda of a sleeper game. It’s not the most amazing graphics but it’s nice and pleasing. The sound quality and artistic design in HDR really make it a nice game to play on a quality home theater with oled and surrounds
Yeah the textures they pulled off on some of the material are really impressive. It’s not some mind blowing visual experience like souls, but it’s a really solid and complete package and if you do have a good sound system to pair with your oled, it’s worth looking into just from that standpoint. Even though I think it’s a blast personally

Really enjoying my OLED the first week. Watched Blade Runner 2049 yesterday, bought the 4K digital edition from brother Tim and it looked pretty great. Once I get a PS5 I'll definitely buy the occasional 4K disc. As Rath correctly pointed out it won't be the same quality as a dedicated blu-ray player but for the few films I'm buying it will be enough for me. Anyways, amazing TV guys, for the next 5 years I'll sit tight. By then I'll probably be on the hunt for a bigger size.

Hopefully, as I'd like my TV upgrading cycle to remain at 5+ years.
yeah totally gonna do 5 years too, for sure, surely won't be tempted when some new technology is out, surely not, no. never.
I’m in for the long haul tbh. Aside from moving house or severe image retention, I’m not planning to change my 65” C9 in the foreseeable future (the whole console gen at least?). Part of the reason for picking that size was to future proof it.
I think the time to Microled is too high for me to be too tempted any time soon. I'd be shocked if I upgraded this before the console gen is over.
That is, unless I win the lottery and just _have_ to go for an 88 incher
That is, unless I win the lottery and just _have_ to go for an 88 incher
I've averaged 4-5 years between buying TVs. The only reason I bought a TV in 2013 and again in 2015 is because I moved cities and couldn't take the old one with me.
The 88'' 8K OLED is my next upgrade for my real setup when (if) I get my dedicated media room in my house next year. Unless something else comes out that bests the current iteration of OLED relatively soon. If they can get it down to about $10,000 from the fuking $30,000 it's at, that'd be great. I doubt that happens in a year, but the price of the 77'' fell much quicker than I anticipated from its original MSRP.
It's either that or a true 4K projector like a JVC NX7 or Sony 4K SXRD variant, which hover around that price as well.
Not even getting into the audio for the dedicated space. Kibner and Linius will have to be my consultants.
Definitely going to be a big project, but one I've been wanting to do for a long time.

if cinemas are gone i might have to invest in a good sound system but if not i will rarely watch movies at home anyway and game with headphones so my basic setup should suffice.
Maybe the speakers are not so bad per se for TV speakers, but being used to a decent soundbar, when the connection fails for some reason, and it defaults to TV speakers, it almost sounds like an old radio.

It’s funny because as my sound system and TV improved, my theater time dropped. Prior to the pandemic I only went for major eye candy like movies.
Yeah a proper home setup delivers a much richer experience than a theater can. Added bonus that there are no annoying people either nor way too expensive food.
maybe a shitty theater but i will always watch movies in the theater first as long as i can even though i have a pretty good setup.
or i win the lottery and install an imax in the backyard.

You gotta stop buying watches and then throwing them away to flex on your co-workers brother.

I have been to some amazing cinemas that just can't be replicated in your living room.
The food thing is only because cinemas do not make any money from the films. Like literally nothing.
I ain’t gonna lie, I hope they keep the digital distribution of movies. If I can watch Top Gun 2 from my couch and not just a theater when it releases, that’s what I’m gonna do. Same with Dune.
I’ll never have enough money to be able to beat out Dolby Cinema or AMC Prime. I’m wondering if A-list will be changed. I’m not paying $20 per movie.
I watched so many movies I would have never bothered to until it was on a streaming service or TV (and by that time I would forget the movie even existed)

Hey I never said it would be cheap. But I’ve heard well measured surround systems with dual subs and an amazing TV that sound and look stunning. Then I personally wouldn’t need a theater a whole lot anymore. Mostly for the imax spectacles and that kind of thing.
If you have a proper home theater setup (which is very difficult and expensive, I admit), the only real things theaters do better is screen size and the experience of experiencing a film at the same time with a bunch of friends and strangers.
At home, you can easily have better image and sound quality. Especially if you tune the sound system for your seating position.

The thing cinemas do better is really just getting the film first in its best quality. Even with these streaming launches for movies, they'll all be "4k". The upgrade to 4K BluRay quality is such a jump
Spend as much on sound (or close to it) as your TV and you’ll have a damn fine set up that reduces a need to go to the theater outside of the most eye and ear candy movies.
Nothing in your house will be a 1:1 for an imax. But it doesn’t have to be for 95% of films or more
