New LOTR fucked with the base response :/
Clipped the sub 30 range
I don't imagine that my speakers will show the difference too much, but I'll never understand why audio gets worse

By Smokey Go To PostYup i got Star Wars. You also need to add in decorative room treatment for fewer echoes. :D
I ordered The Hobbit and LOTR 4k trilogies that just released on UHD. Supposedly they are reference quality.
And with that my setup is now 95% complete:
77'' CX
Sonos System (Arc+Sub+OneSLs)
LG UHD Player
PS5/XSX
I need to replace my existing stand, and that'll do it.
Watched some episodes of the Mandalorian this evening with the fam. Good shit. The rears just make the entire audio experience sound "complete".
Also started TLOU 2 over on this setup. Previously I had started it on my 65'' B6 OLED, and didn't have the Sonos setup. Didn't get very far in it, you need to be in the right frame of mind to "enjoy" TLOU. But on this setup, it's an incredible experience. I
'm ashamed that I went forever without a proper sound system tbh.

I’ve always appreciated surround sound cause my dad had it, albeit always a cheap set up. My first system was a 250$ all in one out of the box piece of shit, but it really completes the experience as you put it.
PS3 era started doing directional sound really well. It adds so much to creepy games too. The prison in demons souls remake was wild
I was playing some XSX games and running into an sound issue. Modern Warfare used the sound as you'd expect from a surround sound setup, but The Division 2, which is supposed to be Atmos enabled, only had sound coming from the Arc (i.e. center speaker). Halo 5 the same way. I went into the Xbox Dolby app to try the demos, and everything was working properly. TLOU 2 was using the sound properly as well. I can't imagine, especially with The Division 2 supposedly being Atmos enabled, only having sound coming out of the bar itself and not the surrounds.
Smokey have you experienced sound delay using Atmos on XSX? I can see it in COD:BOCW in particular as it utilises Atmos. It's not experience breaking but it's noticeable. I've tried using the sync option on the CX to no avail.

Yeah it's there. I think it's an issue with LG and how it handles it. I think I've gotten used to it at this point though. Do you have the issue I talked about above? Trying to figure out why I'm only getting sound out of the Arc itself in certain games but not others.

Individual game setting? The PS5 seemingly treats audio as a system preset with that 360 audio thing. Not sure about the box

No not had that problem that I'm aware of.

Hmm...any other game you could try besides COD? What are your sound settings like on the xbox (i'm pretty sure ours are the same, but I'm curious).

Use bitstream output with Dolby Atmos.
By reilo Go To PostIs your HDMI cable compliant?
yeh, it's the cable that came with the xsx

yup same.
well i just tried valhalla and it worked fine. could hear voices behind me from npcs, animal sounds, movements etc.

Assume you use an HDMI 2.1 compliant cable from the CX to the Arc as well?

By reilo Go To PostAre you connected via the eARC port?
🤔
I'm using the cable that came with the Arc. Assuming thats 2.0. I just got in some hdmi 2.1 certified cables. I could try one of those
But yeah plugged into hdmi 2 (earc)
By Fenderputty Go To PostWhy would you need a 2.1 cable from the CX to the Sonos?
you shouldn't. the features still work with 2.0 and eArc.
i'm assuming it's something with the xbox, but then again the demos worked, and two games worked fine, but the division 2 one got me stumped since it is featured as an atmos game.
Use wireless speakers brehs.
Hope you guys manage to solve the delay issue, one of the things I fear most with eARC.

seems to be a thing primarily with LG and Sonos for whatever reason, with them blaming each other. It's very, very slight, but if you really listen you can hear it.
i only notice it with atmos enabled games. movies and hows, there's no lip sync delay or anything.
My wife will want to kill me, but after I finish the bathrooms I think I’m gonna cut holes and run wires for atmos in my ceiling and 2.1 to my TV.
I paid for flat non textured walls during the remodel. So patching will be easy. Though I got pretty good at matching texture as well. My ceiling still has light orange peel
Hopefully I can stay here for a while with all the work I’m doing lol

So continuing to look at what's up with The Division 2 and Atmos on Xbox, I found this:

Microsoft Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos
We were one of the very first companies to work with Microsoft Spatial Audio and while there was nothing wrong with the technology itself, a lot of sound peripheral companies on Windows 10 weren’t ready for us. For instance, we had a couple of cases where a whole range of headsets that were going full silent while using Dolby Atmos through Spatial Audio, despite functioning as intended while working in stereo mode.
Unfortunately, despite having tried many headsets, no one could have known that with that combination, some headsets would have not worked properly. This happened because some companies didn’t have our game and we didn’t have their headsets.
Despite all the efforts made to fix these issues we noticed coming up during the Private Beta, there were still a few headsets that were still not playing nicely with Microsoft Spatial Audio. We did a large amount of mitigation to resolve these issues, such as publishing a workaround and allowing the game to reboot its audio mix when in and out the client’s window.
In August we received a firmware update for Xbox One that made the Microsoft Spatial Audio playback system slightly heavier on the CPU, and since The Division 2 is running right on the edge of this console’s maximum performance, this small change upset smooth playback for anything that was spatialized by it. It was a tough decision, but for the sake of the players it was decided to deprecate Microsoft Spatial Audio on this platform and revert to standard 7.1 surround until further notice.
Demon Souls probably sounds crazy with that setup. That and tlou2 have been the only games where the audio has impressed me. Very crunchy sound design.
Edit: no pun intended.

Literally changed the game with TLOU 2
If you ever get to day 2 , I wanna hear your impressions of the sound during the first seraphite encounter.

the what
I think I will get a new TV for whenever Dune comes out. So like in September. Probably getting an oled unless something better is out before then
Or maybe covid will be solved by then and the theater industry will bounce back. Doubt it

Demons souls does. I sorta feel like your opinions regarding atmosphere would change with a proper sound set up. The prison in Latria whew bro
Sonos homies, I finally got my ones set up but I got an issue.
They seem to omit a static hiss thats driving me mad. I can hear it when casually watching and its really apparent when I put my ear near it. First I thought I was being sensitive but when I put my ear to my sonos arc its dead silent. Looking around online, looks like it may be indicative of poor build technique and only way around it is to exchange em and pray.
Anyone else experience this?

Could be power related I think?
KIBNNNNERRRRRRRRR
Kibs be honest, am I gonna have to buy sonos electricity?
I have a furman surge protector that'll plug them into tomorrow to see if that changes things.

Whenever I have customers with a problem like this I just ask them to factory reset their players and do the installation again. As well as turning around the power plug. If that doesn't do anything and we detect the same problem at the shop we simply swap the units and call it a day. Sometimes you just have a DOA, it happens.
Yeah, given how subtle sound from the surrounds can be, it's definitely not tolerant of any hissing or base noise
Of course right after Black Friday the in-laws ask me to pick a soundbar for them. Anybody got any suggestions for a bar under 400€?
Important note: they have a CX and the bar would be placed in front of the TV, so it can't be too high. Needs to have ARC/eARC as well to be less of a hassle control wise.

Denon 316 or 216 maybe? One is with subwoofer and the other is without. At this pricepoint a pretty good product.

KIBNNNNERRRRRRRRR
I don't think any kind of power issue would cause a hiss like Moris is experiencing. Maybe if the replacement doesn't fix the issue we could look more into possible power delivery and signal interference (these are wireless, yes?) issues.
That static does sound like something is wrong with the internal amp, though. Like something is stopping it from achieving the noise floor it is supposed to have.
By Daz Go To Postwhat does ARC/eARC do?One of the HDMI inputs on your TV will have ARC/eARC written on it. That's generally where you want to plug in your receiver. What it does is it allows any devices you have connected to the other HDMI ports on your TV to pass the audio to your receiver via the ARC/eARC enabled HDMI port.
Why not simply plug your blu-ray player and console to the receiver, why go through the TV, you ask.
Say you have a PS5 and a receiver that features ARC/eARC, but doesn't support HDMI 2.1, meaning it won't output 4K 120hz VRR HDR to your C9/CX OLED. What you do in this case is plug your PS5 directly into your TV to get that sweet 4K 120hz HDR VRR video, meanwhile the audio gets routed to your receiver via ARC/eARC. Preferably eARC (enhanced ARC), as it has enough bandwidth for uncompressed surround, unlike ARC.
