RTings is saying 9 feet for 65".
By Moris Go To PostI'm gonna add some sonos rears before I think about the sub but thatks probably gonna happen too. I'm weak.On thing to remind yourself of, is that they shouldn't be rears, but surrounds in a 5.1 system. You'd want to place them more to the side than behind your seating position

Slightly behind the seating position to the left and right would be the optimal placement for them. As per Sonos own suggestion. When you install the surround speakers Sonos will also ask you the distance between the seating position and the surround speakers. And with some trueplay tuning it’s possible to finetune it slightly more even.
If your couch is against the backwall and preventing you from optimal placement just be sure to get them up a little (wall mounting would be perfect) and toe them in towards the middle and downwards a bit.
Yeah, in general, you want all your speakers (except sub because subs are weird) to all meet at a point vertically even with your ears and just behind your head. If you have multiple people sitting on a couch and/or listeners of vastly different heights, then you want to spread that out a little bit more instead of being so focused to ensure everyone gets a good experience.
I'm glad Linius knows how to handle the situation when you can't actually point your speakers at the ideal location due to a wall because I would only have been able to guess. 😂

For anyone wondering where to place the sub in an "ideal" spot, I mostly have heard of people using the "sub crawl" technique. This is where you put the sub at your listening position (so, on the couch or whatever), put on a song or movie scene you know well and have it on repeat, then crawl around the floor of your room with your ear to the ground until you find where the bass sounds best to you. That's where you put the sub.
I have never done this and usually just stick it in the most aesthetically pleasing and out-of-the-way spot and rely on my DSP to help cover any deficiencies from that placement.

Noted, appreciate the guidance.

I’m also planning for rears but in my case for my Sony Z9F soundbar. I’m mostly jealous of the #sonosgang because of AirPlay 2, but I have workarounds. Otherwise I’m ok and the HDMI inputs in it have been clutch.
Those rears though, it’s been 1 year and I just can’t pull the trigger on the 250 merkels.

Curry’s have betrayed me. Got an email off them saying there was issue with the CX order today. Had to ring them to find out it was out of stock, so fuck knows when it’ll be getting delivered. Should’ve been tomorrow

there's a good deal on the BX my friend asked me if it's good.
anybody have one or a comparison to the CX?
anybody have one or a comparison to the CX?
By DiPro Go To Postthere's a good deal on the BX my friend asked me if it's good. The RTings comparison is very dry and factual, but realistically, they're fairly close. The CX is obviously better (brighter, less banding, better upscaling), but the BX is still a fantastic TV
anybody have one or a comparison to the CX?
By DiPro Go To Postwhat's banding?Across a gradient (e.g. black to white) you're more likely to see the gradient as less smooth, with it being a bit blockier on the BX if that makes sense.
he would grab a 55" and mostly play games on it at night.
The BX isn't bad at it, the CX is just very good in comparison

EDIT: better example above
Eh, if he's looking to save a couple hundred €/$, he can't go wrong with the BX.

bro fuck bestbuy. They shipped me the One SLs separately and not in any box or anything, just slapped the postage onto the Sonos box itself.
By Moris Go To Postbro fuck bestbuy. They shipped me the One SLs separately and not in any box or anything, just slapped the postage onto the Sonos box itself. This is how BestBuy always ships to me. I’ve never once gotten a separate box to conceal whatever I purchased.
I stopped getting stuff shipped and just do in store pickup. Aside from not even trying to hide what I purchased, there’s no protection to keep the item safe as it goes through UPS or FedEx hell.
I can buy one single pencil from Amazon and that shit is coming in a 5x5 box with the bagged air shit (I don’t even know what it’s called) to keep it safe but BestBuy will ship your 8k tv just as it is while the overnight workers at UPS play football (either version) with it
I got an external harddrive from them last month, and I occasionally buy games from them when they're on sale, they've all been in normal shipping boxes, I'm guessing cause they're too small to treat like that.
yikes
they shipped my one sls in one brown box, but they used a company i've never heard of before. been ordering from best buy for a min. as far as im concerned best buy > amazon

Yikes, Sonos you'll definitely want to put into another box. Those boxes aren't made for an entire shipping process.
It’s really no big deal.
HomePod mini I got recently had a shipping package that was basically a cardboard skin on top of its retail packaging.
Same for an Instant Pot, except in that case I also checked the option on Amazon to get a nondescript delivery box, so they put the whole thing inside a much larger box with some air pillows inside. In the end, just a waste of packaging.
For potentially collectible boxes like consoles it sucks, but for AV equipment it’s generally ok. Both my soundbar and C9 got shipped in their retail boxes. No biggie.

I imagine it depends on where you live. When I lived in NY, delivery drivers were way more happy to leave shit on my doorstep if I wasn't in, if you're looking at an exposed box that's probably twice as likely to get jacked. In the UK, things pretty much never get left with anyone but myself or the concierge
Yeah, I guess that is a factor, but as long as the seller has no qualms in replacing your stolen stuff, you just have to go through the delay annoyance in enjoying your purchases (same for if something gets broken in transit). Sometimes you even get some form of compensation.
By Zabojnik Go To PostShipping out my Denon receiver in its own box for repair today. It's already broken, innit. YOLO.What?
By RATHasReturned Go To PostWhat? My receiver died, sent it in for service today. Still under warranty, so more of an annoyance than anything.
By Fenderputty Go To PostI’ve not heard impressions from Smokey regarding surrounds
Literally just hooked them up about 15 mins ago. Setup process was super easy with the app.
My wife and I have been listening to it. Put on Infinoty War via Disney+ app...
The Wakanda battle
The experience now feels...complete. I've got them sitting on food trays until my stands arrive next week
I can't watch a whole movie or anything extended rn, but later tonight going to try some atmos games and some of my uhd movies. The IQ of D+ streaming is lacking and its bothering me. I need to get some proper UHD disc action going with the setup.
But first impressions....the entire Sonos system sounds 👌 (sorry Linius).
If you have a Star Wars movie, play that for the audio. Any space battle (or any battle in general) will really use those rears. Star Trek too

Yup i got Star Wars.
I ordered The Hobbit and LOTR 4k trilogies that just released on UHD. Supposedly they are reference quality.
And with that my setup is now 95% complete:
77'' CX
Sonos System (Arc+Sub+OneSLs)
LG UHD Player
PS5/XSX
I need to replace my existing stand, and that'll do it.

Also play around with a game that highlights directional sound. Shooters are ok here, but if you have something like the last of us where an entire game mechanic is built around hearing directional noise ... whew
