By Smokey Go To Post20" to 50" is a huge jump, congrats
Finally feel like a man.
By Freewheelin Go To PostJesus, how did you manage to survive that long on 20 inches lol
Bought it back in 2012 to see how Restiance 3 looked in 3d. Only have lived in tiny studios in Korea, so never thought I needed anything bigger.
Oh how i have been mistaken.

That's a solid price for a 4K, Dolby Vision + Atmos streamer.
I wonder how well it handles different codecs. The Shield TV and the C9 are still the only devices I've had that don't have an issue with 4K from Plex

So is the Ultra outdated? I already have an Ultra but...The remote is so bad on the Apple 4k TV, that I may consider switching to this.

Only reason I really keep my Shield TV around is because both me and my partner have our own Netflix accounts and YouTube accounts, so it's nice to have a different place to play things
That and Chromecast comes in handy every now and then

By Smokey Go To PostI guess I could use the internal apps on the CX.
They're way better.
I can do 4K HDR on CX apps (Netflix and Plex) in a way I can't with CC Ultra.

i never had any issue getting 4k hdr on netflix via the cc ultra. it's never worked for you?
i currently use the apple 4k tv. but i flip back and forth between it and the ultra, but with the latest update to ios, atv was supposed to get youtube 4k support...but it's still not there :l
I'm about to set this bad boy up and watch the Raised by Wolves finale, it's going to be lit, just need to finish up with work. LG TV's don't have HBO Max is my PS4 the best option (until I get PS5) or is it worth getting the android or apple tv things?
Raised by Wolves...planned to watch that but I just remembered...HBO Max doesn't do 4k
ugh
Those imperfections show up a lot more on a 77'' screen...

actually pathetic tbh
Might be a PC question but I hooked up the TV and for whatever reason the PC is recommending the resolution to be 4096x2160 instead of the 3840, does it matter for the everyday browsing and what not?
By pkaz01 Go To PostMight be a PC question but I hooked up the TV and for whatever reason the PC is recommending the resolution to be 4096x2160 instead of the 3840, does it matter for the everyday browsing and what not? There should be a display option on the PC to change the resolution you want to output to the display. Where it ends depends on what GPU you have installed. Nvidia is Nvidia Control pane -> Display -> Change resolution. I don't know what AMD's is.

Just ordered this and will be picking it up from Best Buy in a bit. Watched an overview of it, and I did not know that it folds in YoutubeTV to the interface as well. I use YTV and that could be quite convenient.

Nvidia is Nvidia Control pane -> Display -> Change resolution. I don't know what AMD's is.I can change it but then i'd have to change to full pane and not preserve aspect ratio, which I don't really know what the difference is, I looked at some videos with people that have Nvidia and i'll have to remember that next year when I upgrade my PC cause the AMD software is kind of annoying.
My PC is pretty old i'm just going to live with it since it seems to look ok so far.
Still rocking the OG chromecast on a Samsung D8000 from 2011. A bit on the fence if I should upgrade my Chromecast (new one looks nice) or if I should just wait for when I get a new TV and see if I actually still need one. Under normal circumstances the internal apps should service all my needs.

Yeah if I can save up the money relatively quick I want to get a CX around the time they start to be end of life. I'll just keep an eye on the prices.
I bought the new Chromcast. Pretty neat. The integration with YouTube TV is nice. Does YT in 4k. Remote is wayyy better than the ATV trash. Only $50.
I still have this thing in my head about TV internal apps. Maybe I should seriously give them a try because it would free up an extra HDMI slot. But there are some apps that you can't get on the CX , like HBO Max I think.

Coming from an old Sony with a trashy OS, I'm extremely impressed with C9's internal apps performance. YT, Netflix and Prime Video run flawlessly, and Plex, while not quite as good as Kodi at playing back whatever garbage you throw at it and not as versatile, gets the job done and then some.
So much that I don't think I'll be getting the new Shield, at least not for a good while. I wouldn't mind being able to sideload Android apps, but it's not like I actually got use much use out of SNES emulators and the like, so it's hard to justify spending 200€+ on something that's just not needed.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postare you going to PC game on the CX smokey
If I had a dedicated media room right now, maybe. As is, the 77'' is in the living room. Unless I built a SFF gaming PC and incorporated it into my entertainment center, which I have been thinking about a lot lately, then nah. I'll keep it hooked up to my PG27UQ, where I've been at 4k120 for two years, anyway.
Plus with the Series X BC program making a lot of games stable at 60, adding auto HDR, and being 120hz capable as well, I'm cool with using that on the big screen.
I was worried about size as a computer screen, but hanging on the wall with a thin mount is making it seem pretty much the same or better than the 43 inch xbr I had on a stand.
By Smokey Go To PostRaised by Wolves…planned to watch that but I just remembered…HBO Max doesn't do 4k.
That was one of my biggest surprises HOW much of the content on Netflix is actually only HD (even if 4K BluRays for the movies are available).

Is there anything else for these sets to achieve now that VRR and gsync at 120fps are checked off? Display tech has been improving quickly these last few years.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostIs there anything else for these sets to achieve now that VRR and gsync at 120fps are checked off? By Laboured Go To PostNo burn in would be nice.is this possible?
It would have to not be OLED I would imagine. Zabo's fairly up to date on up and coming panel dsiplay tech.

Never heard of him. If I remember correctly, "Zabojnik" roughly translates to giant container full of dodgy opinions. Why should I listen to someone like that

how are the black levels on that PG27UQ?
By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthow are the black levels on that PG27UQ?
Pretty good. It's got about 384 local dimming zones. You do see some haloing around your mouse against an all black screen. Just the way LED works with dimming zones. But those situations don't come up very often. The HDR is amazing (HDR1000). Super bright and punchy. The HDR on this monitor is what actually made me consider (for a split second) going with a high end LED to replace my B6. Thankfully, I came to my senses.
Samsung doesn't offer Dolby Vision. Sony doesn't offer HDMI 2.1 on its higher end models, but does on its mid-tier sets (Sony X900h). Even then it's on one port. Same with the Samsung sets. LG offers HDMI 2.1 on all 4 of its ports as well as Freesync AND Gsync. A lot of weird fukkery going on on the LED side of things.
Bought a couple of Sonos SL Ones with stands for some extra surround impact because I was drunk and also had some sundries in my Amazon basket and thought why not.

I don't think there's anything that's right behind the corner, not counting QD-OLED. MicroLED seems to be 5-10 years from becoming viable and affordable, if ever; miniLED is really just FALD on steroids and thus imperfect; dual-layer LCD is pricey and comes with its own set of issues.
Samsung's QNAD (Quantum Nano Emitting Diode), which replaces OLED's organic blue emitters with inorganic, gallium nitrate based nano LEDs that are much less prone to burn-in and could potentially get much brighter, seems to be the best bet, but it's still heavily under R&D.
I think we're "stuck" with OLED and its near-future variants for a while longer.
