Transcoding is a sin.
I've been using DLNA as an in-between solution while I'm waiting for the new Shield to get shipped and, yeah ... it's pretty garbage compared to something like Kodi. Can't believe how long I used it back in the PS3 days, but those were simpler 1080p (if that) / SDR times.

By Zabojnik Go To PostMy Plex knowledge is 10 years old and even then it was extremely limited. Gonna check it out. There are options in most (all?) Plex clients that allow them to request the Plex server to serve up the raw, full-quality file (assuming the media file is compatible with the client's player, which probably depends on what platform the client is installed on [web, android, ps4, etc]). I believe if both the server and client are on the same network, it defaults to this, network bandwidth permitting.

Can't be worse than basic-ass DLNA.

Finally pretty happy with my setup.
65C9 and a Sonos Arc. The sound is incredible (to my ears, I know a lot don't approve of soundbars)

By Daz Go To PostHow many feet away from the screen are you?About 9 - 10ft from the screen?
My bro was telling me his 55inch gives him headaches
Oh, Zabo. I don't mean to sound like a Plex shill but I figure I would tell you some new things they got out that you might be interested in. If you have ripped your own CD collection or have a subscription to Tidal, be sure to check out their Plexamp software. It has navigation limitations/issues but the actual playback is ace (when you have the subscription/lifetime pass like you are trying out).
They also just added a streaming TV service like two days ago as part of their package. Nothing huge, but worth seeing if it has anything that appeals to you. This is in addition to a bunch of on-demand movies and shows they have available now.
They apparently have a VR... thing that you can use to watch your Plex content in a virtual high-rise condo or something. And even include friends? I dunno, this looks weird: https://www.plex.tv/your-media/virtual-reality/
And, of course, there is always the thing where if you have an antenna and a TV tuner, you can use your Plex server to DVR OTA TV.

I set it up this morning, gave it quick spin and I'm impressed.
All the stuff you're talking about is a nice extra and I might check it out since it's there, Kib, but I'm really only interested in direct playback of video content from my PC to the C9 over the wired network. I'll have to dive deeper into the options on the server side, but so far it had no problems with the stuff I threw at it, including HDR. With the exception of Spiderman: Homecoming, but there might be something funky with the file itself, as every other HDR video played back just fine, including surround audio.
A very Kodi-like experience, maybe a tad less snappy, but we're talking a second or two, a buffering screen that shows up for an instant at the beginning, stuff like that. The interface is clean, selecting subtitles and audio streams works as you'd expect and the video / audio / codec info section has more details than what you get in Kodi by default, which is something I appreciate. Also, skipping / forwarding thought a video is effortless, unlike via DLNA, where is mostly just, well, doesn't work.
I'm using the free version and far as I can tell it has everything I need. Guess there's a reason why Plex is so popular. Good shit.

Maybe it's my laptop that can't handle 4K/HDR videos (tho it runs 4K vids on Youtube perfectly fine), but I've never been able to get around this problem with Plex :(
By JesalR Go To PostAbout 9 - 10ft from the screen?how is the sound bar?
Would you recommend it over a 5.1?
By Daz Go To Posthow is the sound bar?It works really well for my room, and the surround can be fairly convincing, but all the same it'll never feel quite like a real surround. The Atmos feature has been surprisingly good considering it works by bouncing off the ceiling.
Would you recommend it over a 5.1?
I'd assume if you can afford and fit a solid 5.1 or 5.1.2 setup you'd be better off, but I was given the soundbar and find it hard to complain about it.
More of an audio thread question, but it pertains exclusively to HT use, so I'll ask it here.
Any recommendations for wireless headphones with a charging dock up to 500€/$? Haven't done much research, so I'm not even sure what features I should be looking for. All I really care for is sound quality and easy of use, hence the dock. I don't care for noise cancellation and I definitely don't want them to be primarily BT headphones, although I wouldn't mind having bluetooth as an option.
EDIT: Currently looking into RS 175 and 195.

LG Acknowledges OLED TV VRR Issues - But Can’t Promise A Quick Fix
Even the best intentions don’t always pan out perfectly, though. So it is that gaming owners of LG’s 2019 and 2020 OLED TVs have become aware of a couple of problems with their TVs’ variable refresh rate implementation.
The biggest issue, and one that affects both 2019 and 2020 LG OLED sets, is that when VRR is activated, the image undergoes a brightness/gamma shift that makes dark areas in games look greyer and more washed out than they do with VRR turned off
Still gonna try and snag a C9 in Xmas - I'm waiting because my place isn't ready yet.
Hopefully, the store I found some in still has stock.

By Nonja Go To PostLG Acknowledges OLED TV VRR Issues - But Can’t Promise A Quick FixShame Sony doesn’t have hdmi 2.1 on their OLED’s this year. The A8H was on sale for $2,000 recently. We’ll see if LG indeed fixes the issue. Got me on the fence if I should wait for 2021 models form TV manufacturers or bite on a C9/CX deal now.
By Smokey Go To PostHope they fix that. But it's LG.Yeah, me too. Was waiting for those Vizio OLED impressions but a deal came along so I went for it.
No explanation for Sonys OLED strategy this year.
And Sony not having 2.1 on their OLED is just baffling considering the PS5. I’m sure they’ll have it next year but I don’t want to wait.
Welp, ended up jumping in. Ordered the 77'' CX OLED.
Will get here next week. Got a mount too. The 65'' B6 is going to get moved to the bed room. Got the Best Buy warranty for a little piece of mind on burn in, even though I highly doubt I'll get it. I don't have any on my B6 and those were way more susceptible than the newer sets. But if you do get it, Best Buy is one of the only places that honors burn in in their warranties. For the price of the TV figured might as well.
I'm at 11ft viewing distance, so this should be a nice upgrade. And I'm excited af to go back to playing on the big screen with all of the gaming features the CX has. Hopefully I get a good panel. If not I'll be playing the return game.
Now I need the 3090 and we gud

Fairly certain thats 5 grand.
3.7k for the TV.
But after taxes, the warranty, and everything else it was pretty close to 5.

I've never understood why you'd even want to know the price of anything before tax lol
By Kidjr Go To PostI've never understood why you'd even want to know the price of anything before tax lolBusinesses probably lobbied against post-tax prices being required so they can advertise the pre-tax price to make things seem cheaper.
Also, towns, counties, and states can all charge different levels of sales taxes on purchases, which would make it more difficult to advertise.
Was searching for a Sonos Arc and found one at Best Buy. Open box but had all the components, and was brought back the same day by the customer. Took $100 off too.. Happy to find this because its on back order on Sonos' site until late October.
This will be my Atmos bar to go with the new TV. Excited to try that out, I've got plenty of material with Atmos.
Next on the list will be a stand. Found some that we really like, but not in a hurry for that. The TV will be mounted and we'll use our existing stand in the meantime to hold the sound bar and other components.

Not tried any Atmos just yet. Will do this week.
Had it for a while, it's pretty good. I think it's much better at emulating height than surrounds though. Worth getting a pair of ones for in behind
Fury Road sounds incredibly on it, and the Marvel movies are pretty decent showcases, they're all in Atmos on D+

Yeah may do this eventually. But happy enough for now.
