By Fenderputty Go To Postthis is my dream ….
So I worked on a Netflix job. We did a theater for their building. They even have these things called lawreys pads. Which is an acoustical putty that goes in the back of every j-box in a wall. So all of your switches and receptacles are air tight and also don’t leak sound into opposing rooms. You build a media closet with the types of acoustical treatments next to your theater. All wires ran in wall. The closet has a vent with an exhaust fan near the exterior of the structure. In a residential set up, the exhaust fan could be in an attic. The fan pulls hot air for the room. The room also has a supply vent from another area of the house, like the hell, where cool air is pulled. You double up drywall. Putt foam on walls. All wires ran in wall are ran through conduit. Meaning you can re-pull new cable as technology progresses.
What I described wouldn’t cost me too much, if I had the space. Mostly just cable / drywall / mud and a lot of time lol

By Smokey Go To PostE: Nice, Vincent reviewed it
it looks HUGE from the thumb nail lol
Vincent gave it the 'Highly Recommended' HDTVTest award.
In "low lamp mode" this Sony is one of the quietest they've tested in years. Fan spins up when set to high for 3d/HDR, but it shouldn't be too distracting with good placement.
"beauifully cinematic picture"
Strengths:
1. Detail/silkiness of true 4k resolution
2. Stunning color accuracy (after calibration)
3. Flat 2.4 gamma tracking with greater pop and shadow detail than its predecessor
4. Outstanding motion handling
Some slight banding/posterization, but Sony's projectors have always shown this a bit more than their competitors.
Sounds good to me. Gonna keep my eye on it.

I've been to this guys channel before. One of the few tech channels that actually films in HDR. He went from OLED to a ultra short throw projector.
I think I’m gonna go with the in wall sub.
Thinking Klipsch Pro-1000SW. l can still get my 50% company discount :)
My wife really wants the added space. It would be a much cleaner install.

By Laboured Go To PostDoes the CX or C9 have more than 1 HDMI 2.1 port that can do 4K/120?Both do. The C9 has all 4 at full 2.1, the CX has 2 and they're capped at 10bit. Which is fine, since the panel is 10bit anyway
By Daz Go To Post@Linius - whats wrong with having your speakers on the floor?
I'm sure Linius will have a better explanation but as I understand it, high-pitched frequencies are very directional and don't spread out much so you want the tweeter (the smallest driver in a traditional speaker) pointing towards your ear at your seating position so that you get the full effect of those high pitches. The lower the frequency, the less directional the sound, which is a reason why you don't need subs necessarily pointed directly at you.
Also, you want them isolated from a hard floor because, if not, it will use the entire floor as a kind of amplifier. It is the same principle that is used with cellos and the like where they use the stage floor to make themselves louder. It can cause some sound distortion with speakers, though.
Daz mate, don't forget to take your meds
This was how I answered that question a week ago haha
So yes, in the end it's all up to you what you do with that information. But if you ask me it's not worth it to invest in good speakers if you can't properly place them. Since then you're paying money for something you can't fully utilize.
@daz high frequencies are directional. So basically the speakers are producing a whole range of frequencies but a lot of details will go missing if you put them on the floor. Tweeters need to be around ear height to actually experience what your speakers are capable of.

My in wall speakers actually had the capability of directing the tweeter about 10 degrees in any direction.

@Smokey for your inspiration
(I'm sure Fender thinks of this as porn)
This is cool and shows you really don't need THAT big of a room for this type of setup
really good job on the light control too
Yea the use of recessed lighting, a fully retractable screen, plus the Atmos speakers in the wall makes it lowkey proper.
Still, that was A LOT of work for DIY.

My 65" Panasonic Plasma will be 11 years old in October. Still going strong.
For the PS5 though, I will finally get a 4K TV. Hopefully there is some good competition in the market come November.

By Daz Go To PostIs burn-in just a plasma problem or do OLED lads need to worry as well?Yeah, OLED burn-in is a problem. It's why there aren't really (m)any PC monitors using OLED panels.

It's a "problem" on OLED, but it takes a very long time to happen (if ever).

thanks, fellas - I am coming for that C9.

I have a B6 (2016 model), and don't have any issues.
If you aren't using it for primarily PC display or a channel with a ticker 90% of the time, you'll be fine.
You can see "burn-in" on OLEDs if you are on an app e.g. Hulu when navigating to other content but it lasts all of 30 seconds.

that is "image-retention" which is different than burn in, just to clarify. there's also a pixel shifting setting daz. it's really not a problem unless you plan to watch CNN everyday during the duration of owning the TV, or any other static ticker. If you think you're going to play 20,000 hours of something like Destiny and nothing else, then that might be an issue.
I used to worry about burn-in on OLEDs, but after getting the C9 and seeing how many fail-safe features there are, that worry went away completely. Unless you have a very specific / extreme use case - and I count watching commercial TV with static logos and shit for hours at a time as one - I think you can safely eliminate it as a factor in your decision making.
Don't ever eliminate burn issues on OLED as a factor. The number of customers with burn-in issues we have had in our shop is slowly growing. It takes a lot of time for it to happen, but it's a very real issue sadly. Let's just say my manager isn't too happy about it. Granted he's a Samsung guy himself, but he's worried LG will stop replacing panels at some point because it's costing them a shitload of money and that's not a sustainable solution for the long term. I kind of hope OLED will be an in between piece of tech we'll get rid of sooner rather than later so we can't build a customer base with OLED's that's too big to take care of if this problem is going to grow. Microled please
My issue is I (well I used to) like to leave on channels like Sky Sports News in the background for long periods which is perfect for burn in. Nowadays I have a wife.
my wife is the king of turning the tv on then getting distracted and let it run for hours until she notices.
By Dipro Go To Postmy wife is the king of turning the tv on then getting distracted and let it run for hours until she notices.
That's a good point. I have fears about how often she leaves AC:NH on and I'm pretty sure that timer stays up.
Yeah if you stand still in New Horizons the clock will appear and will stay. Not sure if you can turn that off. But that might be something to look into for you Horse to be sure. It's those kind of things you normally don't really think about that you absolutely have to be careful with.
By Daz Go To PostI'm getting conflicting info here, scientists are still debating it.
Are wives good or bad for burn in?

I owned a plasma .... Tbis nothin’ lol
Hooked my UHD player back up.
Movies look so good. Watched Skyfall and it was beautiful. Blu-ray.com says its native 2160p, and it looked like it. Sharp movie, great Dolby Vision pop, especially in the Shanghai night scenes. No macro blocking like you sometimes see on streaming. Put in Coco, one of my sons favorite movies, and the PQ is just so good on the OLED
Digital is obviously more convenient, but whew.

Time to build yourself a media server and rip all those UHD movies to it and stream them at native quality. 😈

Aren't UHD drives on PC a mess of requirements?
By Smokey Go To PostAren't UHD drives on PC a mess of requirements?Sorta. As long as you can get a drive that can read the four (or was it eight? it just doesn't have to explicitly be a UHD drive) layer discs and doesn't have firmware that checks for UHD copy protection, and the copy protection has been cracked for that particular disc, you are good to go.
