Ceiling speakers are dope by the way. It sounds so much better than atmos enabled speakers. But it's just not very practical in your average living room. I would probably only advice to go down that road if you have the space and money to build a dedicated home theater room.

You cats are out of control.
Or high wall. So you get high and low surrounds. You could also add high front. I’m kinda sad I didn’t run two extra speakers in wall, but again, 5.1 fills up my space just fine
5.1 is a perfectly fine set-up. Buddy of mine has small towers in the front, a rather small center and bookshelves in the back paired with an 8 inch sub and it's a great experience in his livingroom. Surely his fronts could do with a bit more weight into it when you're listening to music in stereo. But it's very effective for watching movies and playing games.

My first house had an odd shaped front room. Really long and kinda narrow. I ran the speaker wire and in crown molding I added and ceiling mounted a full 7.1 system. I think pretty much 3:10 to Yuma was the only movie at the time that actually had uncompressed true 7.1. I barely knew it was 7.1 because the space wasn’t big enough. Now ATMOS is here and that’s the new craze. I think height is more perceptible than and added surround back, but 5.1 is still solid.
Realistically, as you said, most people can have a solid sounding 5.1 set up for movies and game for pretty cheap too. If you don’t listen to a bunch of music, the fronts don’t need to be super punchy.

Some minor improvements as expected. At time of publishing the video with the available firmware, the panel had crushed shadow detail with BFI engaged, non functioning smooth gradation control, floating blacks in Dolby Vision content (still smh), brightened near black gamma in VRR mode. It's always *something* with firmware when it comes to LG. They'll probably fix some of the above, and fuck up in some other area. This is a yearly tradition with LG, for better or worse.
He said the HDMI 2.1 reduced bandwidth implications in practice can't be determined at the moment since next gen GPUs and the PS5/XSX obviously aren't out yet.
Also mentions that peak brightness is about the same as years past. There's really not an incentive to improve on it. Higher brightness would also increase the chance of burn in on OLED.
Will probably have to wait until the shift happens to RGB OLED to see any improvement here, imo.
https://4kmedia.org/ has some nice demo videos for showing off your new screens.

Yeah if there was practical and easy way to implement height speakers I'd be all for it. But it's just not for your regular livingroom. Nor for the average consumer I might add.
And yeah, 5.1 doesn't have to be expensive at all. Hifi shops cary that image which is more of a leftover from the eighties/nineties era than anything else. Sure, there are still hifi shops with a bunch of elite dicks working there not caring about speakers that don't cost a month's salary but just avoid those.
I think what I love the most is that I'm able to configure a complete surround set-up with our in-house brand and an entry line Denon like the one Zabo has and it's cheaper than a Sonos surround configuration. While also blowing that Sonos set-up out of the water. You can tell Sonos marketing is really on point by the amount of people that have this image in their head of Sonos being some sort of end game shit. Probably because it's pretty expensive and all your neighbors and friends have it too. I mean how are you gonna be the cool guy at the office if you have to explain them what audio brand you're sporting. When you say Sonos people will know you're a topdog.
Lol 😂 my brother had some contractor installed Sonos ceiling speakers and I think my Klipsh sound way better

It's not much, but it's mine.
Happy with the improved cable management, though I still need to 3D print a brown cover / channel for the subwoofer wires on the far right there. Plus a couple of black covers for the devices (internet provider's IPTV box, Nvidia Shield that's currently missing) in the right compartment of the TV stand. The cheapo Ikea plants are placeholders. Please understand.
move the chair further back for your eyes please.

Can't find a single goddamn Nvidia Shield Pro in stock. Cheapest on ebay are like 100€ over retail price. Coronaaaaaaahhhhhh *shakes fist*
Also, as sensational as this C9 OLED is, motion resolution with 24p content can be pretty fucking bad. Damn you, instant pixel response.

Zabo low-key challenged you - don't have any of it.
Those are the plants I have on my computer desk, just needed something to reinforce that trademark Ikea look for the photo. :)
I'm actually looking for some sort of abstract art I can 3D print and put on the left and right of that center speaker.

Got my Shield RMAd, was hoping they'd send a 2019, but got a 2017. Still, much smaller than the 2015 I had. I don't think Dolby Vision is worth however much it'd cost to update this.
Will post a setup photo when my media unit actually arrives, because right now everything is just sitting on a coffee table

Sold my 2017 Shield today, managed to get 150€ for it. Gotta wait for the 2019 version to come back in stock, which is taking forever.
Basically I'll be paying 50€ for a better remote and Dolby Vision support via Netflix. I can live with it.

By Linius Go To PostI've always noticed there's a lot of misconception about HiFi gear. I've had so many people in the store that start the conversation by telling me they're not audiophiles. And then I just have to tell them that the audiophile title is a self proclaimed myth for people who spend too much money on audio to have a name for themselves. In the end if you dig music or movies and I put you in front of a few different speaker set-ups and amp variations everyone hears the big differences between them. Every brand has their own idea of how sound is supposed to be. And it all comes down to taste which brand you might like better. And inside the brands the difference between an entry level line and a more higher series is also very noticable. When we get to that stage it's merely just a matter of the difference in sound being worth it for you or not.In the audiophile world, when we want something better it usually means that we crave something different. I own two pairs of everything because it holds back the upgrade itch.
End game for me would probably be something like the Olympica line from Sonus Faber. I had the pleasure of listening to a set of Olympica 3 speakers with McIntosh gear powering them and it blew my mind. But that was a stereo set-up worth around 10K. Obviously you can go much more expensive if you'd like but I think the dimishing returns as mentioned earlier start around this level.
EDIT
Oh and another note on audiophiles. People who call themselves that I found are usually not even huge music nerds but more so gearheads. It's the thrill of buying new stuff in their audio chain that keeps them excited. And fair game to them for doing that of course.
For the people starting out, definitely spend more money on your speakers than your electronics.
I briefly auditioned the Sonus faber Serafino with McIntosh gear. € 9.999,- a pair. They were super detailed up to the point that it kind of irked me. They were beautiful to look at though. In the end, I came to the conclusion that I consider myself a pleasure seeker rather than a truth seeker.
So this is a little bit of a remodel pic fest and you’ll have to excuse any untidiness as I tiled this weekend instead of cleaned ... I’m pretty proud of my tile install job. Centering patterns sucks
What I got in those two media cabinets and mounted in and on wall.

I’m considering doing an in wall sub too ... cleaner
Pic 1: old front room with shitty wall separating kitchen great room concept. Fireplace ship lap was vertical while the brick lines horizontal. Brick in a house ... yuck

You can watch tv from the island though the viewing angle sucks. Still it’s good for sporting events. Pic 2 represent a fuck ton of work already. I had all tbat ship lap off and a ton of drywall off to run wires.
I put some insulation above and below the speakers, but was careful not to compress. Supposed to make them punchier
You can see my side speakers are close to ear level at sitting area. It’s a great sound set up. The engines in Ford vs Ferrari last night ... wew

Love how you did the speakers Fender, looks great! But what's up with TV's above the fireplace, they're always mounted so damn high.
Yeah that's mostly the case. Always on the hunt for something different. And I agree some audio equipment gets so 'real' that it can even distract from the music you're listening to honestly. As if it's too clean.
Honestly don't have a strong opinion on them. And other lifestyle brands alike. They make some interesting design choices that fit a modern interior really well and stands out from most speakers out there. Fair game to them. If you can get better audio quality for less money if you go for a more traditional speaker? Sure. But people buying B&O usually equally care about looks and sound. And for that if you have the money for it they're great. And let's not forget that old Beolab stuff and such is just really good audio gear in general.

Looking good, Fender. The effort you're putting into the job is definitely showing. Can confirm tiling sucks.
I'll echo Linius' concern about having a TV that high up on the wall though. I had to mount mine higher than I would've wanted because of the center speaker, so I have it tilted down by about 15-20°. You're sitting further away from the TV, but that looks like a 30-40° angle from where you'd be sitting, which should make for very uncomfortable watching, no? At the very least you'd want to tilt the TV as much as possible.

Got my TV on a cheap piece of Lack funiture from Ikea. The piece itself is only 35 centimer high. And I absolutely love that viewing angle for my TV. If mounted with a center speaker underneath I could do a little higher but not much.
I just noticed on Reddit that Americans in the home cinema reddit have their TV's above their fireplace a lot. And since a fireplace is already pretty big those TV's end up way high. r/TVtoohigh is a thing for a reason haha, mostly a collection of TVs mounted above fireplaces -> https://www.reddit.com/r/TVTooHigh/

Space requirements ... as you can see the previous room layout didn’t even have a TV. They used to have one caddy corner in a different area of the house, but that was still too small for a 65”.
Then there were speaker space requirements. The brick of the fireplace internally prevented the speaker from mounting lower. I didn’t want the center channel blocked by the TV.
At 12’, with feet up on the couch, you don’t even notice. I was concerned originally as well.
There’s a slight tilt on the TV,and I can tilt more, I just haven’t felt the need to. Honestly thought I would
